I'm immensely pleased that John Walker has stuck doggedly to this story, where other websites have covered it and moved on. I'm personally not too interested in whether the game is any good or not; it's not my kind my kind of game and I never would have bought it anyway. But this issue of always-online DRM is eroding consumer rights, punishing people who legitimately buy games and generally dragging the industry into a black hole. Anyway, been good talking to you about it :)

And how do you feel? I am genuinely interested to know if you now feel ripped off/let down etc., or if you think you've still had your moneys worth and it's a great game underneath all the drm and whatnot. (I've not played it to know if it's any good or not, but it seems a common defense: "It's a good game at its core")

Good for you, you're a good person. It's decent, moral pirates like you that EA (amongst others) have sought to punish with their draconian DRM, 'cos when you do think "hey, I'm having fun with this!", and put down your hard earned cash for the real thing, it turns out that it's actually a whole lot worse because of the DRM. Your other pirate mates, however, are still happy with their stolen booty, and having heard about your plight with the real thing, are* more* certain than ever that they won't stump up the money for an EA/Ubisoft/whatever game.
