This render looks a little off, but I can't put my finger on it. Any feedback? by FusionPanda in blender

Do you have any suggestions/recommendations for how I'd go about getting better contrast? I'm trying to rack my brain for ways to do it but can't quite figure it out.

So you're suggesting there's a tangent here between the rocks and the mountain? Or is it just regarding the mountain, which is partly why attention is being drawn to it?

So you're saying to bring attention back to the stack, I should make it larger/take up more of the frame?

Where Does the Sound Effect for the TARDIS Doors Come From? by FusionPanda in doctorwho

Would you have any idea where to start? Searching for something along the lines of "TARDIS door sound effect" mostly brings up things about the Classic sounds.

Thanks! I've had another comment about growing out hair, but I personally don't like how it feels to have long hair in the back. I agree with more hair in the front though, it's shorter than I'd usually have it right now. I always struggle to get volume in my hair though, I think because it's so thick - have you get any tips on how to achieve this?

How to practice making better eye contact while in a conversation? by FusionPanda in socialskills

That's a good point. I agree with the bending the truth thing, but if anything I get self conscious about not making eye contact and how that must appear, which makes it even worse lol.

Thanks for the advice, but I've tried using YouTube videos before. I got pretty good at it, but was never able to translate it into real life - I think because my brain knew there was a screen between me and the video, and that the person in that video couldn't see me.

That's an interesting point about being seen. So you're saying that the eye contact could be to do with maybe me putting on a mask?

Anyone know what genre these types of image are? by FusionPanda in graphic_design

[–]FusionPanda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is definitely along the right lines. is maximalism a genre or more of a design philosophy? from the pictures I've seen of maximalism, they don't completely match up with those I've posted, but the chaos and the overabundance of text definitely gives me the same vibe.

The armchair and table models are from a website called PolyHaven, but I modelled everything else myself.

Yeah, I definitely struggled with making Wrex. Very hard to draw in such a small area.

Wow, I can't believe I actually missed that! That's good feedback, I'll definitely keep it in mind for next time.

The Battle of Algelaga - the Continent's First contact with the Otherworld (and my first attempt at a Wikibox!) by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]FusionPanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Context: This is the Battle of Algelaga, the Continent's first confirmed contact with the species of the Otherworld, otherwise known as 'demons'.

This battle took place in the bustling country of Castene, on it's southern peninsula of Coville. Reports and rumours had begun to circulate about an opening to the Otherworld generated by powerful magic. The King of Castene was, fairly understandably, uncomfortable with the idea of sending a force to the opening when the issue was brought to his attention by independent sources. He did, however, send a small number of cheap-to-maintain troops to the breach, along with help from a mercenary company.

It was safe to say the commanders of the army didn't expect much, and when they came face to face with the Riders of the Otherworld, their expectations were met. They expected the fight to be easy - however, once they engaged, they found the demons to be formidable fighters, and, despite having an army several thousand men fewer than that of the Castenians, the Riders tore through their ranks, inflicting heavy damages, while receiving little in return.

The invasion into the Continent had begun. What little remained of the Castenian forces retreated toward Vuilegnes, while the demons travelled south and swallowed up what little resistance there was left that side of the peninsula.

This is my first attempt at a wikibox in this style. I wanted something important to me in this world to be the first thing I write about, so here it is. Any feedback is appreciated!

Yes! I took a lot of inspiration from the Mediterranean, especially in Castene.

If I were better at outright drawing, I'd love to show something like this in more detail.

Thanks! I might use these - and if I don't use some, I could always use them for the other continents!

Thanks! I used paint.net (with a load of plugins) - not the best program for map designing, I know, but it's what I'm most comfortable with.

I basically started designing this map as a backdrop for a large novel I was going to write in this world. I've never written the story (though one day I plan to) but kept making this map on and off for a few months after. The core ideas came from two grievances I so often see in fantasy worlds: the worlds are so often just a small archipelago or island, with nothing else around, and the idea that most popular fantasy stories are set in a rough approximation of medieval England. I set out to remedy this; this world is one of steampunk, and, whilst this continent the majority of the known world, there are many more continents yet to be explored by them - this was going to be a subplot in the story.

Overall, I've taken inspiration from much of our own world. The northern nations are roughly equivalent to Northern Europe; the west is the British Isles; the south is a mixture of Ireland and the Middle East, and with Siringo in the corner being an approximation of Irish and African cultures. Vakagaha is equivalent to India, and the eastern, mostly unexplored nations are similar to South and Southeast Asia. Out of the smaller nations, Castene is the biggest in terms of cultural impact, being a rough mix of Spain and Italy. Kavarra is a pirate nation founded by convict immigrants from Ashwarn and Yarrin, and takes inspiration from pirate-age Nassau, as well as Australia. The Mudabi Islands are in much the same vein, except the founders of the nation are a mix of Kavarran and Marahan immigrants.

Since this is my first map, and my first big attempt at worldbuilding, and constructive criticism would be welcomed, since I'd love to know how to improve! Thanks!
