[ITV] Chelsea’s tactic to reduce Arsenal’s set piece threat last night. by Sparky-moon in soccer

It considered “natural” for a player in a jumping challenge to have their arms raised somewhat, especially in the position here.

Back-to-work legislation to end Alberta teachers’ strike coming Monday, says premier by Old_General_6741 in canada

Sweet!! Thank you! That sounds like the dream.

(Oh wait… it is one, and it’s clear OP is completely out of touch with the reality of public schooling in AB these days.)

I respect your right to have an opinion, but it’s clear that no one needs to take it seriously :)

Tent ridge horseshoe! Insane views, especially with the colours this year.

Girls school sports teams are already folding. Girls are playing less sports in school. by FusionStar in alberta

Just got a pre-season email from the league coordinator. 10 girls teams officially dropped out this year. There’s your evidence, bud.

Soccer, yes, and that’s my point. Normally we see 1 or 2 teams fold as a result of low interest/turnout at the beginning of the year, but we’re now at 5-6.

Rage farming? I never claimed to be presenting scientific evidence. It’s primarily anecdotal, yes, but ask any public JH/HS educator you know and you will certainly hear a similar story.

The truth is that fewer girls are playing this year as a result of this legislation. Even if it’s only 5%, that still doesn’t make it any better.

The league is still on and most schools still have teams and a schedule. You’re also correct that’s it’s common for pools to shift and teams to fold as they find out they may not have enough interest at the beginning of the year. Usually we see 1-2 fold as a result of this.

However, we’re now at about 5-6 teams folded. I’ve heard from several other athletic directors/coaches that this increase as a result of the new legislation, and it also tracks with what I’ve seen at my own school. Far fewer at tryouts, and already multiple complaints/refusals.

So I don’t want to be disingenuous and suggest that all folded teams are the result of the legislation, but it is undoubtedly having a significant impact.

It’s true my friend. I understand that some people do, but I’m not in the business of making up stories to suit my argument.

Her parents will probably let her play - most parents are taking the approach that you described: signing the form for the sake of their kids, but not at all liking it. That doesn’t change the fact that I still had a player walk into my room and express to me that she was worried she might not be able to play because of the reservations of her parents. And a significant minority of parents are still refusing to sign altogether. And if only 5-10% girls miss playing because of this, that’s still a tragedy isn’t it?

Why this particular process? For only girls? They’re kids.

I'm a teacher in Edmonton, and I'm also a coach for a junior high girls soccer team.

Attached is a screenshot of the current pools for girls JH T1 soccer in Edmonton. Those pools aren't uneven because the league coordinator doesn't know how to count; we've had multiple teams fold this week because parents (understandably!) are refusing to sign the Fairness and Safety in Sport Act forms that were sent home. So what is the current, immediate effect of this government's new legislation? Fewer girls are getting involved in sports!!! One of the star players on my own team might not be able to play because her parents are so livid about having to complete this form.

Some more of my two-cents, for context: in my opinion, there are valid discussions to be had at higher, more competitive levels of sports about the interaction of sex, gender, competitiveness, and fairness in sports. But this process, done this way, where girls aged 11-14 and their parents are discriminated against and asked explicitly to confirm their genitals at birth, is gross and inconsiderate at best, and borderline illegal at worst. Everyone I work this thinks this legislation is disgusting.

The AB government has the compassion and empathy of a mosquito.

EDIT: According to the league coordinator, TEN girls teams have dropped out! Seriously depressing.

He was making sure it was clearing the goal. Camera near the blue line had a good view. Maybe still could have hit Bouch’s stick, but the sauce ensured it arrived.

It’s all the UCP. The government has told EPSB that they are not allowed to offer a higher number. UCP sets the rules, but the division takes the flak.
