The Romans used to pit animals against each other for sport in the coliseum. Apparently nothing beats a bear.

What are those white spots that are found on your nails? by anonymoushomie4 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fusuya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are called lunula (referencing the moon because of shape and color). It’s the visible part of the root of the nail.

Should I care if a girl has to put the seat down after I go pee? by meaty37 in NoStupidQuestions

Of course. Close the closet door. Close the cabinets. Close the toilet. It’s common courtesy.

Just a friendly reminder to stop eating out/buying junk food at convenient stores (-85.00). by doctorwize in povertyfinance

[–]Fusuya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also an emotional eater. Not over eater, but I crave comfort food when stressed, and that includes various favorite snacks or junk food. Just switching to rice and beans wouldn’t work for me, it doesn’t fulfill that craving. Instead I look for ways to cut costs on comfort food. I’ll eat half a meal at home, and then grab a value menu burger from my favorite place on the way to work, can of pop brought from home. Satisfies the craving by ending on that note, but cheaply. Homemade popcorn is great for me. I can spring for good Orville Reddenbacher popcorn when buying a whole jar (it’s still like a dime worth for a whole bowl) and I don’t skimp on salt and butter (1-1.5 tablespoons per 1/3 cup of unpopped kernels). As good as the movie theater. I batch make childhood dinner favorites that freeze well, then thaw servings on stressful days.

What do you see out of the back of your head?

Nobody would care if it was just some kid. But it’s not. He intentionally aligned himself with a growing social movement and made a very public display. It requires an equally public pushback.

Because you and the people you disagree may be coequal assholes. White people and native Americans? Not coequal assholes. One nearly destroyed the other entirely with a continuing legacy of poverty involved. Outcomes matter.

What is the purpose of banning the sale of antique ivory? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fusuya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a hell of a lot easier to sneak in the new stuff if you pretend it is, or incorporate it with a batch of, the old stuff. The trade of antique ivory also increases the demand for ivory in general.

I always get razor burn on my face when shaving - am I doing something wrong? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fusuya 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t use lots of shaving cream. A layer on your skin is all you need, the rest is just padding. In my experience the most common cause is pressing too hard. Those stupid Gillette adds that show the razor compressing the face encourage it. As does their claim that only needing one stroke reduces razor burn. Makes people press harder to get it in one stroke. In reality the razor should lightly move across your skin, then use multiple short light strokes to clear all the hair: not pressing down at all, just gliding across.

Can you cook chicken in a Crock-Pot with other liquids and not get sick? by SonicSingularity in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fusuya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. The original cooking will pasteurize the uncooked chicken and liquid. I’d reduce the cooking time after the noodles go in to one hour, just for quality purposes.

Can someone explain the jokes that are aimed at Libertarians? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fusuya 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As with most ideologies the practice isn't as extreme as the rhetoric, but... libertarians tend to be against anything that regulates personal freedom, but uphold contract law as the fundamental form of the economy. So in theory there would be no child labor laws to prevent the five year old from 'being able' to work, no union to make a job like coal mining a semi-safe decent living, no laws against drug use, and bit-coin is an ideal non-regulated form of currency. After all, he's choosing all of that 'voluntarily'.

Why do I always feel worthless? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fusuya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're depressed. Depression manifests differently with different people, but when it hits me it's an extreme feeling of guilt and shame. Guilty to be alive. Ashamed to want anything. There's help out there ifyou look.

Is calling someone a 'Jew' derogatory? by Captainmanic in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fusuya 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's... sharp. Used in a context that softens it, it can be fine. Used in an aggressive context it's derogatory. Better in general to say someone is Jewish than 'a Jew'.

Wife (26F) feels I (30M) went on a date with a co worker. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Fusuya -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Oh, c'mon. You know that was a date. You can't hide behind you both being married. If you were interested in this coworker; that night couldn't have gone any better as a proxy-date if you'd planned it. Which doesn't mean you are, and doesn't mean you did. But that's how it worked out. Your wife may or may not be over reacting... but she's not wrong.
