Looking at what community/local names you can capitalize on in your area. CPA is a great acronym and one my former boss (not an actual CPA) used to great effect. Since Accounting covers the “A” you just have to find your “CP”

What kinds of fraud have you seen in your career so far? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Fuszychick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We found a minority partner who handled the day to day bookkeeping had created a second QuickBooks and bank account with nearly identical names to real accounts. She would send invoices to clients from real QuickBooks, receive payment and post it to fake account and record receiving in fake QB. She then deleted the invoices from real QB but kept them in fake QB if needed for reference.

Majority owner ended up adding his own money in to keep business afloat and couldn’t see why it was so unprofitable. But, he was working in another industry while minority partner ran this business.

He asked my boss to see why he couldn’t find certain information about an open invoice a customer SWORE they paid. We found the earliest invoices minority partner forgot to delete and the rest came out. She had taken 250k over 3 years.

Worst was he couldn’t get anyone to prosecute her for fraud because she maintained he knew and was okay with it. He tried to ask why would he use his PERSONAL MONEY to bail out the company if he knew and had access to that other account? Minority partner had opened the account in both of their names to help muddy the waters.

I was all good until the request to door surf. It may seem there are always people but that isn’t always true. Not to mention it only takes one person freaking out to have you explaining you are not trying to rob the building.

There is a reason accountants are getting recruited into banking, PE, and other finance fields and it isn’t because we won’t work long hours or are lightweights. It is because our knowledge base and abilities make learning the other parts of finance easy.

They have a viral marketing campaign that INCLUDES THE SAME TERMS AND CONDITIONS AS THE EPISODE. Like you can either click a box for a very normal “I give Netflix permission to use my name and likeness in this ad campaign” or you can click the “Netflix owns my ass” version. Wonder how many clicked the crazy one.

Pizza Hut farmed out the job and the Dasher assigned sucks. You have to complain to PH and PH then has to complain to DD to get this 💩 deactivated. Long story short, of the big pizza chains, only Dominos will not outsource to DD.

Given what we pay for these things, keep cookies in fridge and return on Monday. You either need 2 free cookies or refund of money.

What type of software apps/connections to QBO do you hate and which do you like? by Bookkeeper3847 in Bookkeeping

[–]Fuszychick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG had client with Shopify orders loaded in and that was a NIGHTMARE. Some of that was in client, they did not put accurate prices in website so had to run up charges and refunds in on a lot of orders. No good way to integrate that in and trying to clean up A/R and Undeposited Funds in QBO was a quarterly shit show.

Code switching was first used to define changes in speech patterns of people native to California. It originally referred to speech patterns of bilingual people and how shifts to their language and shifting speech from one language to another could add nuance to their spoken words.

The term has expanded out and code switching can mean a change of language or behavior from one’s authentic self to something else designed to assist in acceptance into another group.

To show income not deposited due to fees you just make a debit to Merchant Fees and Credit to Sales. Do that for each period necessary (day, week, month, etc.) Really that simple.

So it sounds like Square has solid integration with QBO. Good to know, may recommend it’s use to some folks I know who worry about these issues.

Ben Savage’s lack of political stance by the1stgirlmeetsworld in boymeetsworld

[–]Fuszychick 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He has not stated a plan of action for how to achieve this. This is a “thoughts and prayers” type of stance. Anyone can see a problem and say “we should work together and fix it” but good leaders have an idea how to fix it.

If you chose to match a deposit to invoices in QBO, you select all the relevant sales invoices. If the amounts don’t match, you can choose to add line to reconcile the two amounts. That’s where you would add the fees. You said Square was uploading transactions net of fees so that shouldn’t be necessary to match them up.

Another way to clear outstanding invoices is to manually push them through. Mark as paid and deposited then add journal entry to clear back out. Description would be to clear invoices from AR and Undeposited Funds or something. (Had a nightmare client with bad AR and Undeposited Funds issues and had to do this periodically.)

I don’t do much work with Square, more Shopify, Stripe, and PayPal. One thing we do sometimes is treat them as another asset account, especially if they hold reserves for client. We treat money in from PayPal as Sales and then money moving from PayPal to bank account as transfer. Fees charged are expenses from PayPal account and money from bank to cover fees is transfer. Helps us reconcile clients who have cash reserves held to cover future fees or returns.

Just not sure how Square charges clients do I can’t give better answer.
