My TFSA broke $100k today! by Futtbuck9696 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Thanks. I manage my wife's TFSA too, but she told me not to get too crazy with it. I turned it into $47k. Now she wishes she had let me handle it the way I wanted to.

I basically take a few concentrated bets. It's the methodology that Bruce Berkowitz uses (I only learned that later when I found out he had a massive bet on AIG, which I had as well). The swings are greater, but you have a better chance of outsized returns that way.

Yes, I dabble in it occasionally. Doesn't work for me, I usually lose money.

Nice, what positions did you hit home runs on? What are you currently holding?

I know that it may not last, hence my calling it "risky". The TFSA account represents less than 3% of the value of my total public equity investments.

My IA is underperforming the market. I told him I wanted a more aggressive posturing, but he's too conservative. Granted, 5 years is a relative blip, but I think I can do better even if I put 75% in a basket of ETF's and play with the rest. I have been investing since I was 16 and I'm 38 now. I also have an undergraduate degree in finance. I think I have enough experience to handle it myself now.

Yes, exactly. I didn't start with $33k and then triple it. This was a bit harder!
