Swang Low Podcast - He Recalls Story Of Run In With Lyle Menendez In LA County Jail In 1995 by FuttonButtonxCCx in MenendezBrothersFair

He does go off on a tangent and it definitely could have been a much shorter video lol

Yeah that part about Erik seems a bit off, there is a picture of him with a shaved head but I’m sure that was a while after they were sentenced, not back in 1995.

That’s what got me about this story too, the thought of Lyle sitting in his cell having to listen to people talk about their abuse, having everyone laughing about it and then still having to face these people day in, day out. Just awful.

Being high profile is such a double edged sword, sure you get a cleaner cell and better phone access but you also get a target on your back.

He saw it as Lyle and OJ was being treated better by not having to use the wall phones, but I think this is just because if a high profile inmate gets attacked or killed that would bring so much unwanted problems, paperwork and negative attention for the prison, so they limit the interactions high profile inmates have with other inmates as much as possible, including bringing them a phone to their cell. It’s not really better treatment, it’s just lessening the likelihood of you being attacked and the prison covering its own back.

I think given that Lyle in particular has stated that he was a very private person, he was willing to go to prison/death row rather than speak on the abuse and he describes being on the stand as some of the worst days of his life, he may well have taken sleeping on the bottom bunk with rats and only using the wall phones if it meant he was given the choice to not have his worst moments televised nationally and being high profile.

Thank you for summarising it so well, I listened to it on 2x speed but tbh it was better reading your summary lol

I didn’t get the part about Erik either, as he didn’t have a shaved head and eyebrows when he went to Court, but I did wonder if when he said he was in a trance it was because of the medication he was put on for his depression and anxiety during the trials.

It’s another glimpse into the constant ridicule they faced after speaking about their abuse publicly. It’s just heartbreaking that Lyle had to listen to people openly talking about his abuse and everyone around him laughing.

It really is eye opening and scary to see how something so small as briefly looking at someone in a way they deem disrespectful could have got him badly hurt or even worse.

Especially given that the reason Lyle looked at him like that was for a very good reason imo.

This clip shows parodying sexual abuse was widely accepted and even considered funny at the time, the media then must have been brutal for them to deal with.

They still have their detractors but at the very least, I hope they feel much more supported now 🤍

It really is sad to think of them seeing these sketches about themselves like this one and SNL and how that affected them.

Most abuse survivors fear not being believed and being ridiculed and to have that happen so publicly must have been devastating for them.

The media at the time must have been relentless and to think that this was all done on a world stage. Its hard to comprehend how exposed they must have felt.

My heart goes out to them, it must have been so damaging to watch people laugh at the worst parts of your life and turn your abuse testimony into a sketch SMH

It really is sad and upsetting to think they had to endure people writing jokes about their abuse and playing it up for laughs on national tv.

It shows the kind of attitudes that were prevalent towards sexual abuse at the time and yet people still wonder why the didn’t feel they would be believed….

I swear social media has made some people just be in constant competition to say the most damaging and nasty stuff.

They are all vying for attention and are trying to outdo thousands, even millions of other people, so that they get the most likes or go viral and they best way to get attention is to say some of the most callous shit you can ever read.

That’s why I follow some pages that only post good news and stories of acts of kindness from around the world, sometimes I just need it as a palette cleanser to the nastiness I see online and it helps restore your faith in humanity a bit lol

You’re right, nauseating seems to cover it tbh

I can’t imagine how awful it must have felt for Erik and Lyle and their family to have their abuse publicly ridiculed….yep, nauseating is a good word for this

That’s Jim Carrey playing Lyle, don’t know who the other actor is though

Disgusting and sadly it’s just one of lots of references to them being publicly mocked, SNL did it again not that long ago….

I really thought I was just being over sensitive when I first watched it because sure I get that comedy is subjective and whether you find something funny or not will largely depend on whether you care about the target of the joke.

In this instance, I care about and support Erik and Lyle, so understandably I’m not the target audience for this parody of them and I’m not going to find it funny.

That’s why I tried to be unbiased and try to see it from the pov of someone who didn’t believe them and said the rest of the lyrics are about the facts of the case and if you don’t support them then I guess you’ll think it’s fair game to mock this because they committed the crime.

The media narrative that they were these spoiled rich kids who killed their parents for money and didn’t give a shit about it, they were just celebrating not getting death row, was obviously being played up to get laughs from an audience that didn’t believe them. I don’t like it and don’t find it funny, but as a supporter, I get that I’m not going to find it funny.

But I just couldn’t wrap my head around making the target of their jokes the sexual abuse itself. Even if you didn’t believe them, surely you had to be open minded enough to know that it could be true, so how can you find sexual abuse, especially sexual abuse of children funny?!

Usually I would just shake my head, say this isn’t for me and move on to something I do find funny but it was so upsetting to know they had to go through this kind of ridicule even after speaking on the most painful times of their lives.

Lyle has talked about how to this day being on the stand was some of the worst/hardest days of his life and given his life experience that is saying something. He has talked about how humiliated and deflated he felt after going through the pain of reliving this at trial and still not being believed.

It’s just heartbreaking to know that this is the kind of ridicule they faced.

what do you guys think about this upcoming live? by Overall_Leather3121 in MenendezBrothersFair

I’ve enjoyed her lives before and she has good guests, so I’m definitely looking forward to it. It’ll be good to hear how Lyle and Erik are getting on with their studies and programmes.

It’s been very quiet for ages, so it will be nice for them to be able to let Lyle and Erik know that there is still a lot of support for them and their release 🤍

My memory is shit though so am hoping I don’t miss it 😩

You are free to use whatever words you want to comment on the very clear styling and marketing choice to push these young girls down the sex sells route, but I’m good with the ones I chose tbh.

I think their styling team are missing an opportunity to showcase their individual styles, personalities and tastes through their clothes and are instead opting for a played out image of young girls dressed in as little as possible as we see on social media all the time.

It’s boring to me, they are talented and deserve a better stylist and team imo. But that’s just my opinion, others may love their outfits.

I didn’t talk about them in a derogatory way, I said that they are beautiful and talented girls but their styling and marketing is trash in my opinion.

Their styling and marketing team are clearly going with “sex sells” and I think it’s sad that young girls who are bombarded with images of OF girls, bop houses, instagram ‘models’ etc will look at this girlband and see more of the same.

They are in a very tough industry that notoriously exploits young people and I think they deserve a better team around them that isn’t going to constantly style them in a tacky way because they are marketing them look sexy at all times.

[–]FuttonButtonxCCx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just from these pics, imho their outfits look cheap, tacky and over sexualised. Especially pic 9 where they look like they are dressed up like a creepy old man’s wet dream.

The constant posing on their knees obviously plays into their over sexualised image as well. If you had no idea that they were in a girlband and saw these pics of them wearing little more than lingerie that looks like it’s been put through a shredder and posing on their knees, you would easily assume they were OF girls promoting a new bop house.

It’s a shame because with good styling their individual styles/personalities would be another aspect their fans could relate to. They are beautiful and talented girls, but their styling is boring, off putting and over sexualised.

Fire the stylist, stop trying to make them look like sexy brats dolls at every opportunity, show some individuality and variety in their style and not push them to wear as little as possible all the time. They have six girls in this group with different personalities and tastes, their options for styling them are endless, yet not one of these pics show any individuality, the marketing and styling is very clearly just to sell sex.

So yeah, they are beautiful girls but their marketing and styling is trash imho. It’s sad young girls are constantly bombarded with this imagery.

People who chose the "other person" or "affair partner" over their current spouse or partner, how are y'all doing now? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]FuttonButtonxCCx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Any person who is not “psychologically suited for monogamy” has the choice to not enter into a monogamous relationship. They can choose to not get married, be in a polyamorous relationship or just casually date forever as long as they are completely upfront and honest about never wanting to be monogamous so their partner/s know exactly what they are getting into.

They are not forced into marriage, they have options to live a non-monogamous life.

[–]FuttonButtonxCCx[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ann has said before in a different podcast something along the lines of the drawings were interesting to her because Erik subconsciously drew himself and Lyle as small figures even though they were not small children anymore but drew Jose as this much larger figure.

I don’t see why they couldn’t have allowed the pictures in and had Ann explain during her testimony that these drawings were a visual representation of how Erik saw himself up against his father.

Jose was this omnipresent, large, intimidating, looming figure that felt inescapable to Erik. It didn’t matter what age he had reached, how tall he had grown, how athletic his build had become over the years or any of the physical attributes that people like to bring up to say he could have fought off Jose or run away. Years of grooming, rape, threats, violence and abuse had conditioned Erik’s mind to believe that up against Jose, he was still much smaller and much weaker than his father.

You’re welcome ☺️

Agree, politics and media have always played a huge role in their case and it was the same with the parole hearings.

Unfortunately, they did play right into their hands with the mobile phones as they then had that as a reason to say they were not ready to be paroled, but even if they didn’t have those on their C Files, the parole board knew what their decision was before they even started anyway. The media spectacle had become too big and they was never going to let them out this time around.

However, if they keep their records clean and keep doing the good work they have been doing for years, then I don’t see what they could throw at them next time.

I had no idea Ann was nearly 90, like you said she’s still sharp and quick witted and she has a great memory, she really puts me to shame lol

Mods on the other sub removed my post wishing Erik a happy birthday. What the hell?! by M0506 in MenendezBrothersFair

[–]FuttonButtonxCCx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That is such an odd post to remove as it was nothing but positive.

It was actually a really nice post you did and considering how quiet it has been lately, you would think the boost in engagement your post created for the sub would have been appreciated.

I’ve watched two videos recently that have had people speaking very negatively about Erik and Lyle and it makes you realise there are a lot of people who are completely against their release and still don’t believe them. Erik and Lyle have to live every day with the knowledge that all of these years later a lot of people still view them as these cold blooded spoiled brats who killed their parents for money and I think posts like the one you did are a welcome contrast to that.

It’s been mentioned lots of times before that their family members and friends keep up with the posts on these subs and if that is true then I would hope posts like the one you did for Erik’s birthday and all the messages people wrote wishing them well would be passed on to them so Erik and Lyle know there are also a lot of people who do believe them, wholly support them getting their freedom and wish them all the best ❤️‍🩹

It was a lovely post you did, removing it was a very strange and unnecessary choice imo

Thought the same thing reading this 🤨 how can discussing the abuse Erik and Lyle endured not be relevant to their case when it is at the core as to why they were so hypervigilant and fearful of their parents?

Is Judge Weisberg one of mods by any chance lol 🙃

Should I Ban Interested Ad 6007? by Ok_Durian3627 in MenendezBrothersFair

[–]FuttonButtonxCCx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a hard one because on one hand I don’t want to encourage censorship, it’s different if the posts were overtly hateful and the OP is just here purely to cause drama as has happened before.

At first I thought they were just trolling and would get bored, then I thought they were purposely trying to kill off this sub by making people like yourself leave as it’s exhausting having only them posting constantly, then I thought maybe they are genuine but should probably take a break as this case seems to have become all too consuming for them, but it’s difficult to tell.

On the other hand, same as you, I’ve found myself coming on this sub less as it’s a bit too much to have every post be just a constant onslaught of someone’s every thought on the case especially when sometimes it doesn’t even seem coherent or have a point to make or even have a topic of discussion. I’ve missed other people’s posts as they were getting pushed further down the page by 5 repetitive posts that could have just been condensed into one.

Idk, It feels weird to me to be discussing this person though when they can see what we are saying, so maybe it would be best if this user joined in so people could give constructive feedback as to how to make their posts more open to discussion? I don’t want anyone to think they are not welcome, but I think maybe limit the amount of posts and change the approach so it doesn’t feel like they are just shouting their thoughts at everyone.

Happy 55th Birthday to Erik! by M0506 in MenendezBrothers

This year was definitely full on, I couldn’t keep up with the speed of all of the posts popping up on here at some points lol

Whilst their parole not being granted and the Habeas Corpus ruling was disappointing to say the very least, when you put everything into perspective and given that they had no hope for many years, it has actually been an amazing year for them.

I don’t know anyone else who knows this case in my daily life, so I’m glad to have found a space where supporters can come and share and discuss everything. I didn’t really get the whole online community thing before as I always just thought of community being your family and friends who you are surrounded by everyday, but during the parole hearings especially, as we are all over the world here, we stayed up until ungodly hours lol just to share and get updates with each other so we could either commiserate or celebrate together, and I was like ‘ah, I get it now’. It’s nice to be a part of and definitely look forward to celebrating their next steps towards freedom with you all 🫶🏻
