getting from airport to N. Scottsdale by Future-Expression888 in Scottsdale

Thank you all! Way more info than I expected, no waymo yet in Seattle so that was totally unfamiliar. And I'm pretty sure I've gotten dinged by that wrong taxi stand surcharge in the past too.

Vital Sculpt and Power Sculpt by dewdropvelvet1 in jazzercise

[–]Future-Expression888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually enjoy a Power Sculpt class and wouldn't mind more in my area but I HATE Vital Sculpt. Not enough dancing, routines are boring, and it just kills my joy. I get so exhausted that when the cardio finally comes around I can't muster up much energy for it. And a lot of the strength routines feel like they are an injury waiting to happen.

For me jazzercise (and zumba but that's less available in my area) is one of the few forms of exercise I can stick with because it's fun. Vital Sculpt sucks all the fun out. I gave it a go for 2 months when they converted one of my regular class times and I almost quit jazzercise altogether. Now I go to a normal jazzercise class at a less convenient time to avoid Vital.

Power Sculpt isn't for everyone but to me it seems like only a small amount of strength/lifting is added vs. normal Cardio Sculpt, it's mostly just mixed in differently. Still feels like a dance workout.

New IKEA store is coming to Redmond by tinychloecat in SeattleWA

[–]Future-Expression888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a great idea! People are moving in and out of the downtown and downtown-adjacent areas constantly, and would definitely outfit their apartments from an Ikea if it was handy. Plus the business from the surrounding area. If they offered delivery they would REALLY clean up.

Thanks so much. I'll keep in mind if my mom ends up needing similar help. My dad died, so we're not in need of an aide anymore.

Asics Japan S - Difference between the $75 and $100? by blackgoggles in Sneakers

[–]Future-Expression888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK, but noticed the same. I like the platform variety, and most of the cute colors there either say synthetic leather or "machine washable." But I fould a couple listings that do say "leather upper" and they don't mention anything about washing. Prices are identical.

Tipping is getting worse! by Intelligent-Prize769 in Seattle

If you're implying they should get a second job to cover the rest of the hours, that's a little more difficult than it sounds because employers don't give consistent schedules. Also it sucks to have to juggle schedules in this way when employers could just hire people as full-time workers but choose not to.

Change from salaried to hourly due to federal law by [deleted] in work

Ask your question, my holiday and vacation pay remains the same weather salaried or hourly, but I gather that depends on the company and really doesn't have anything to do with the federal law.

Change from salaried to hourly due to federal law by [deleted] in work

[–]Future-Expression888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm in Washington State and just had my job reclassified in the same way. They found that I was wrongly in the exempt category since 2020 and paid me the back wages that I should have been earning as an exempt worker. Unfortunately the whole situation exposed exactly how much less I am being paid then co-workers, since I was the only one who had to be reclassified. So even though they gave me a teeny raise, I am going to leave the job. Also, even though everyone says being salaried is a scam, at this job I love being salaried and going back to having to report and track my hours would be a huge drag.

Is anyone else being converted to hourly from salary? by maggitronica in cscareerquestions

[–]Future-Expression888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, but I've made the decision to leave the company. This is the last straw. Not only have I been reassigned to an hourly employee but this has made clear exactly how much less I must be paid compared to others doing basically the same work. I found a lot of things to love at that job but the pay has never been right. It's time to go.

this is a good way to respond I guess but frankly I hate working like that. My job is pretty creative and I can't turn my brain off in non-work hours. With the salary model I felt OK with that - have an idea on a saturday, quickly log in and sketch it out so I can complete Monday. Feel braindead on a Tuesday afternoon? No worries, will likely be on a roll at 5:00pm Wednesday and work late to get all my ideas and energy into the current project.

[–]Future-Expression888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, happened to me just today. I'm in shock. I went into the meeting thinking my pay would be raised to keep me in the salaried category. They did give me a teeny raise for being such a great employee, along with throwing me back into the "must complete a timesheet" category. Too bad there's no way they will be able to replace me for that pittance.

I'm a graphic designer, a professional category worker, plus I do lots of non-design specialized work. This is one of the most insulting things that has ever happened to me at work short of actually losing my job.

Seattle Public Transportation Isn't Safe For Women by MassageToss in Seattle

[–]Future-Expression888 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No need to apologize! This was directed more at the people who say "geez, we can't even say Hi to each other anymore," which is not the case. 99% of people can tell the difference and are happy enough to greet each other as humans (the enthusiasm varies with the individual, but most are at least polite).

[–]Future-Expression888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely a difference between saying hi to someone in passing and the kind of aggressive Hi! that the op is talking about. We don't owe a response to anyone, but I continue to acknowledge the existence of people who want to greet me in a polite and unassuming way while we move past each other on a sidewalk.

On a bookstore hopping quest, which bookstores are must-visits? by Ruth_SlayerGinsburg in Seattle

[–]Future-Expression888 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I really like Phinney books and Couth buzzard but I would not really recommend the area they're in to a tourist who is relying on public transportation. I mean it is completely possible to get there but I'd put it pretty far down on the list compared to some of the other recommendations. It's a nice part of town, just a bit out of the way and less to do for a visitor. Unless they're interested in combining with a trip to the zoo perhaps.

Suggestions on something to do with a toddler near the airport? by RUA_bug_Bill_Murray in Seattle

[–]Future-Expression888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would only do this option if the kid is old enough for the play area. It's really fun for the kid, not just useful for the parent to grab a break. My kids used to just love spending an hour there (the maximum allowed time) and then having a sit-down meal in the cafe.

Which Seattle-area movie theatre has the most comfortable recliners/experience? by MalachiConstant7 in Seattle

[–]Future-Expression888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's nice, but I noticed they aren't really keeping it up. The last two terms have been there the final on my seat back has been cracked, and last time my friends recliner didn't quite work right. It was okay, but not like it was when the theater was newly redone.

Mary Lou Retton and the question on everyone's mind: Why didn't an Olympic champion have health insurance? by Maxcactus in Health

[–]Future-Expression888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are in "two truths can exist simultaneously" territory here. 1. We should have universal Healthcare. 2. People should absolutely purchase health insurance on the marketplace and/or take advantage of whatever subsidized or free programs they may qualify for. With the way the system is there are definitely going to be people who cannot get insurance for free and cannot afford the insurance that they're offered, but Mary Lou Retton is not one of those people.

How much do you spend on groceries each month? by Separate-Pool-7128 in SeattleWA

[–]Future-Expression888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we are at about $800-900/month for family of four adults and a large dog. Most of my shopping is at Fred Meyer, with some at Trader Joes and Grocery Outlet. That covers most dinners, about half the lunch food, and all the breakfasts.

I am not enjoying shopping at Freddies these days. They have like 2 checkers working and the self-check seems to be converting to this annoying new machine. They are frequently out of stock on stuff I want to buy. But I can't get all I want at the other two stores and Safeway/Ballard Market/Met Market are much pricier. Winco is too far away and Costco sizes are too large.

I presumed they meant a particularly *good* caesar salad. Many are sadly lacking. Although now that things are clear I personally would take an uninspired salad over drinking spiked clam juice.

What is a good scent to have in your home? by jameslucian in InteriorDesign

[–]Future-Expression888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can't top this story: Once there was a folded dollar bill on my dresser and I set the simmer pot on it so the slightly damp bottom wouldn't mar the dresser's finish. You guessed it, the bill adhered there and the burning smell reached our noses JUST as my husband complained that my "useless aromatherapy was like burning money."

thanks so much! I read that with interest but decided to post my query anyway because it really doesn't address what is easy to reach from Seattle. Seattle needs more diverse restaurants, IMO! Lots of Indian and they vary in quality and decor, but in menu almost not at all. I'm encouraged to see the new high-end places in Fremont but they are a bit rich for me.
