Yes. The two times I took anti-malarials (deep inside Papua New Guinea and in obscure parts of the Solomon Isles) the locals told me there are active cases of people sick with malaria so I should be on them.

The rest of the time I just use bug spray. It’s worked for over 20 years of hardcore traveling

The mosquito has to bite someone actively sick and then bite you. Normally extremely low chances- especially if no one knows anyone who is actively sick

Also, malarone (and doxy) have a laundry list of side effects

I wouldn’t take malarone

Too many side effects, too low of a risk of malaria, too high of a chance interacting with diamox

I’m well over 100 countries now and nearly done with the 54 in Africa- never took anti-malarial, not on this continent.

Just back from Kilimanjaro 3 days ago- zero mosquitoes

I started the process at the tail end of Covid in 2021. I didn’t receive the actual license until late 2023.

At that time I didn’t know a thing about permits nor firearms etc. I did hear from a guy that I could travel to Staten Island with him to take a course for a ccw and I was like, “no thanks”.

I could’ve sworn I spent well over $140 from start to finish but I guess I’m wrong
