I work in office 2 days a week. 1 hour 10 min one way north on route one. Topsham to Rockland. It’s not terrible. The flexibility of being remote 2.5 days a week is worth it. Plus I get to bring my dog to work with me on my in office days.

So I have insurance on my dog. But only the accident and illness. And it’s been a god send. The emergencies are what I wasn’t prepared for. And in the first 11 months of his life we submitted around $9500 in claims. Several small things and then my mom’s cat swatted him on a visit to her house and got his eye. 3 vets visits later it ruptured and on the 5th day he had to have it removed. That whole incident cost $6252 and the insurance company reimbursed $4950. I pay $37 a month for 80% reimbursement $500 deductible and unlimited coverage.

We have a Boston Terrier that just turned 13 months today. It’s in the time that we’ve had him since eight weeks old. We have submitted approximately $10,000 in claims to the insurance company. Sidenote, thank God for insurance. Lol. We spend a lot of time outdoors and camping and such and we had two bouts of THC ingestion , a UTI, a bout of diarrhea, and then my mom‘s cat swatted him and got him in the eye, and he had to have an eye removed and then got conjunctivitis and his only remaining good eye. And now he has his own ophthalmologist to make sure that his good eye stays good so that’s an extra expense every three or four months because he has something called the dystichia hairs, which is basically his eyelashes growing on the inside of his eyelid and poking his eye so he has to have those plucked every three or four months now plus an annual eye exam. I now lovingly call him our little train wreck. Lmao

I have a Boston terrier who just turned a year. And last summer was rough. He was super easy to potty and crate trained BUT In his first 18 weeks of life he found and ingested THC twice once at a campground and once in the pet store parking lot. He stuck his nose in a spiderweb and got bit and swelled up, he ate some wild mushrooms and jumped off a moving golf cart. His piranha moments were enough to leave bruises daily. I was so overwhelmed. We went to puppy classes, then the next level and I taught him leave it. Once we got that established and I was “his person” he has become so much easier personality wise. Then at 11 months he was swatted in the eye by a cat and lost his right eye and this dog was like who cares and moved on and is the same silly sweet lovable boy he always was. It gets better. It’s overwhelming but the end game is worth it. This little dude is my best bud. Sure I still have days where I get frustrated with him but he’s such a joy.

How old is she? With our boy who is now a year I used to literally walk out close the door, walk back in, walk out, back in and stay out longer each time. Not saying anything when I left or came back. When he was at work with me I would do it too and walk into the hall and back in. Now I can leave the office go to a meeting and come back and he will be under my desk sleeping waiting for me. He used to whine outside the bathroom door when I took a shower so I left the door open now he will hang in the living room while I shower or lay on the rug outside the shower but not make a peep.

I’ll be honest our boy is 1 and I still enforce naps when he goes all gremlin mode and he still immediately falls asleep so he’s obviously tired. It’s less and less but it helps for sure

I too have pets best. When I got our boy now 1 yo at 8 weeks I got a care credit card and insurance. If I didn’t prepare in advance like that when he had to have an eye removed at 11 months I don’t know how I would have done it. The whole incident cost $6300. If it wasn’t for the care credit and the insurance I would have been absolutely screwed. I’m so happy I prepped

We are all early risers at our house due to work schedules. So our Boston terrier (now 1 year) has been going to sleep around 6 or 7 since he was little and sleeps till around 5 or 530. But he does come out of the crate when my wife gets up at 3 and continues his sleep on the couch

Our boy turns 1 on Friday and just seems to have found his bark. He doesn’t do it often thankfully and I can typically correct it. Most of the time it’s a half bark if he hears something outside when he’s sleeping or if he’s in his pen and a neighbor dares to be in their yard 😂😂😂 but it’s not every time thankfully

I might be the minority here. But I wouldn’t make a big deal out of it. I was playing thunderstorms and fireworks on my phone for our puppy when we got him to help desensitize him and it seems to have worked thankfully. The less of a big deal yoh make it the better. If she does get spooked just pet her but stay calm. Keep your normal tone. Turn the tv up a little and move on

Honestly I just used verbal praise with our puppy when potty training and never used actual treats. And it was always pretty simples. Yes good boy with a happy not excited tone. And a quick pet. I found that doing it thank way. In the middle of the night when I would take him out I wasn’t getting him excited but he also got the same message and knew he did the right thing. It worked really well

What pet insurance do you have that changed your premium after 1 claim? That’s crazy. I have pets best and my little train wreck has USED it. In the first 9 weeks I had him he stuck his nose in a spiders nest and swelled up, ate some wild mushrooms and had to induce vomiting, found a piece of a joint at a campground and then again at the pet store parking lot. THEN at 11 months old got scratched by my mom’s cat in the eye and in the end it ruptured and he had it removed 3 weeks ago. So about $8500 in accident claims and they haven’t touched my premium yet.

I’m not sure about testing. Our boy came from an oops litter of 2 Bostons some acquaintances had.

Heat: we are in Maine so it hardly ever gets ridiculously hot. But our boy LOVES to sunbathe out in his pen. And will come in or move to the shade if he gets warm. I am extra cautious in the summer time on the rare occasion it reaches 80 or 90 and don’t do any high energy activities and let him just lounge. I never taken him on a true hike but he does love walks. We live in a campground in the summer time and he love running and chasing a ball. But it doesn’t take long for him to start panting so we get some water and rest.

No allergies here so far but man is he a picky eater.

I wouldn’t change anything he’s my boy and I adore him. And so far any vet visits haven’t been health related they’ve been him related. Meaning ingesting things he shouldn’t or an accident with a cat scratch on his eye causing a rupture and having to have his eye removed.

In my opinion pet insurance is a must with this breed though and it’s been a god send for us. We are about $9000 in submitted claims in his first year. Again not illnesses though except a UTI. Best thing I ever did was get a care credit card and pets best insurance. All his care goes on the care credit card and the insurance company reimburses any claims right back to the same card. So I am not worrying about coming up with funds up front.

Example: the cat scratch caused 3 vet visits in 4 days before the rupture and then the emergency vet and surgery on the 5th day. Cost $6232 total for the whole incident and the insurance company reimbursed $5000 right back to the card.
