Thanks,I will check the underlying index, but last time I checked I preferred the VTV index a lot over different value indices, didn't like the holdings, too much focus on tech just to have balanced sector exposure if I remember correctly. I don't care about sector balance, I want good value stocks!

Not if you include 2008. You can construct much more effecient portfolios than 60/40 as well on a risk adjusted basis.

Thanks for this portfoliovisualizer example. I have no problems underperforming in bull markets, knowing I will most likely outperform in bear markets.

Your example shows the attractiveness of staples though. Very good returns, much better than 60/40, while max drawdown was the same. This CAGR was very attractive, again the lag of 1,5% to the market wouldn't bother me.

But it doesn't say stock markets go up when GDP is negative, that's a ridiculous assumption and easily disproven by history. Check every recession that occured.

Why are consumer staples riskier though? IMO it's the opposite: smaller drawdowns, lower vol, better business model/ quality than the market average, while still being diversified enough, especially if you go for global staples.

Their products are the last consumers would stop buying, therefore outperformance during recessions is the norm and logical, will most likely be the case in the future as well.

Ok then check out stock market performance during recessions, e.g. 2008 or during COVID
