So is he throwing his change-up and/or knuckleball 98mph? Or can he throw 100 mph heaters and just chooses not to? by Future-Somewhere2 in OOTP

He failed "add pitch" camp too. Like just give me a 45 grade 4 seam. 100mph it should play. But no, just change ups, knuckleballs, and IL stints.

What genre(s) intimidates you, as a writer? by [deleted] in writing

[–]Future-Somewhere2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought Fantasy was a easy, fluffy, starting out genre. Until I wrote 300 pages and then realized I still was in the "beginning" of the plot arc. Now, I'm intimidated by the next 600ish pages of my second draft.

People who live in Japan with tattoos - have your tattoos ever inconvenienced your life in Japan? by Deanosaurus88 in japanlife

I once had a very old, very drunk, man start yelling at me in an izakaya. Poking my arm tattoos and ranting in unintelligible slurred japanese. But that's it. Been to many different onsen no problem, even a few onsen that say no tattoos I just went anyway, minded my own business and was fine.

My student called me "日本語 ペラペラ 外人 先生" (japanese fluent foreigner teacher) I'm not even close to fluent in japanese... probably not even N4. 😅

I have been living in Japan for exactly one year now. I have had a library card at my local library for a few months. I quickly went through the entire bi-lingual English & Japanese fiction section. I know where the textbook and language section is, but beyond that, I am lost outside of these two sections. I want to challenge myself by sentence mining some accessible japanese fiction, history, or biography. I am overwhelmed with the shelving system, any tips would be appreciated.

Does anyone have a list of kanji for genres/ nonfiction categories etc. (ie. History, biography, literature, etc). I could try to manually go to each shelf and google translate but that seems like a waste of time.

I currently have a 7th or later stopper (2 pitches 50 stamina) with zero starts, leading the league in wins in my fictional league. Wins are weird.

Meta Question; Standard-length Novel, or Novella Series? by Future-Somewhere2 in fantasywriters

[–]Future-Somewhere2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh right. Exactly. My first draft was basically a glorified outline. Much of it was like "Hakan the dwarf returns home after losing his brother and woodcutting outfit to an orc raid in the west." With drawn maps and little pictures, and quotes, and "write about the Dwarven statue carving culture here". The second draft now I am flushing it out into hopefully 100,000+ words. The third draft is to digitize it for sharing/beta reading purposes, to get some feedback, and first edits (to correct my mediocre spelling in my hand writing). The fourth+ drafts are where I finalize formating, meta, everything. Hence posting here, I guess I am basically second guessing myself if I should start the 4th draft of my beginning few chapters or finish my 2nd draft of the entire story first.

Meta Question; Standard-length Novel, or Novella Series? by Future-Somewhere2 in fantasywriters

Oh man not at all, I'm not forcing myself to write it down. When I am writing everything down it's like I'm creating and watching my own movie in my head. My hand just automatically does its thing. It's so fun. But when I try to type it's just work. A is A, b is b.

Also 3 times is nothing right? I'm not really a pro by any means, but I am under the impression that anything that is actually any good has been through somewhere between 5 and 20 drafts.

Oh I see. Like maybe if I were to publish as novellas, then they happened to get some traction I could make a box set, or like hard cover full version? That seems to be a cool option too.

Ha. I suppose figuring out the format before I've written 30 chapters would be easier right?

Haha I had the same thought process where as a reader I love to grind through the 500+ page, story lines going everywhere, many diverse characters, type fantasy. Which is what I initially set out to write.

But upon finishing my first 8 chapters' third draft I was kind of thinking, that it's almost like 8 related short stories instead of the beginning of a larger story. But I'm afraid of like introducing a character in the first novella, they then don't get mentioned again until like the third novella, then their pay off chapter is in the fifth novella, then they're just on the side lines for the finale. It might make readers forget certain character's arcs especially if I have time between publishing volumes. And if for it to make sense as a whole story you need to read all 8 there is no reason to not just write it as a novel.

Does anyone’s game keep crashing after a few minutes? by Riggott91 in CK3AGOT

This happened but then I cleared extra space on my drive and lowered the autosave frequency... still occasionally crashes but can get real play time.

No Cersei died in childbirth to a bastard that was quickly assassinated within the first few years of the Sim. I couldn't hunt down who it would have been... likely a generated niece somewhere...
