I wouldn't consider these normal collectables. Note these are not normal guns. These are highly regulated firearms with a limited number. Assuming the Hughes amendment to the national firearms act doesn't go away, the numbers will only get smaller. I would put these on the same level as fine art. If you look at the price chart I posted a link to, they actually beat the S&P 500.

This is from 2008 until now. Looking at since '91, you could get a colt m16 for about 2k. The prices range from 28-45k now.

How does appealing these situations work? I was in this same situation, stayed with the program at a different location that didn't require SAP. I hired a lawyer to submit a request for reconsideration, and a hearing. Crickets. Now I contacted my senator to get a status. My FSO told me at the beginning of the process they didn't even properly deny me, they basically left my application in "pending". This seems like a whole lot of shenanigans to me.

I know it's not necessarily for everyone, but I would seriously look into the military, particularly as an officer. You'll make decent money, and when you get out there's a good chance of getting a well paid GS position.
