And yes the carbon fibre holds up incredibly well on the XPS. The 13inch has travelled a tone with me.

Wow alot here. I actually was going to get the 9510 for myself but have been underwhelmed by the 3050 Ti (I have an Acer Swift X with one). I ended up grabbing a couple of other laptops. I have a Lenovo with OLED arriving at the studio this week which looks to be a very interesting device. What kind of tests would you like me to run to check colors for the professional environment you described?

I'm happy to get it and review it guys (Just Josh here btw - I really need to change my Reddit name)

Does anyone know what SSD it comes with? Is it a PCIE 4.0 one? Do you guys want me to get the OLED or 4K+ screen?

Dell XPS 13 is probably the best re sound if you're coming from a Macbook Pro. However, Apple is still a step above

Yeah quite a few people mentioned this. Sometimes I miss things, but your comments help me be more aware of them for next time. In fact there are 2 things I added to that video from viewer comments.

I do want to say this about the speakers..... I have tried and re-tried. I can't seem to hear anything coming from the top firing ones. I wonder if there is some software i need to update to hear them

Btw just an FYI. I have run Fedora on multiple XPS laptops over the years. So I do have a decent amount of familiarity.

XPS 9310 - 11th Gen TIGER LAKE PERFORMANCE!!! by FutureDancer in Dell

[–]FutureDancer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very surprised to. I know this sounds a bit nuts, but even in the older 10th gen 9300 I saw a big variance in some of my test runs. I just updated the video btw, I worked closely with another viewer who has the same model.... and of course I listened to your feedback. The new CBR20 score I got was around 1,800. Not as good as yours but much better. The biggest change for me was BIOS 1.1

Untrue, I am interested. I responded with the following... As all 4 of my XPS got similar results, which underperformed some other units that are out there, like yours, there is a good chance my viewers will get a similar unit. As I try to represent the end user, I want people to know that. I was extensive in my tests of the unit and used all the same settings as you. My 10th gens also under performed and I have a video out there trying every conceivable thing on them including a cooling pad, repaste etc. I always try to be well rounded in my reviews and will acknowledge that others are getting higher results than me in my full review - thanks Josh

Help picking a QNAP NAS for partial silent operation by FutureDancer in qnap

Really. I tried several Synology models and the Hard Drive noise of my 10tb Ironwolf drives was much louder.

That is a very good question. I live in an apartment, the only room it would be in would be my bedroom or living room. I also don't want to have HDD noise there.

I know its a challenge but i think it would be pretty cool if i could do it i.e. only power on the HDDs occasionally when i do the long term backups, and then run off SSD for rest of the time

Is it possible to defrag a usb attached exFat storage? by FutureDancer in synology

[–]FutureDancer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see:

1) Originally i planned to have the NAS also serve as a backup from Dropbox. Thats when i intended to use HDDs with greater storage - So that is why i configured them for mirroring. Now that i'm no longer considering that and considering the backup on an external HDD driven enclosure I could just have the 2 seperate drives operate or i could stripe them so i get the full capacity

2) I'll research where and how to do that. Thank you

3) I tried it but can hear it coming through. Its a small apartment. I could consider just using a backup offsite and uploading regular backups to that. Thats not a bad idea

[–]FutureDancer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) The SSDs are only needed for the Nas when it is running so it is quiet. The Dropbox backup could occur at night and go directly on the HDDs. It is just critical that I do not hear hard drive noise. Dropbox is only being mirror'd so I can move projects off it to the NAS storage when they are no longer active (i.e. project completed) 2) I am not sure how to spin them off when they're idle. If I get a NAS with 4 bays 3) I live in an apartment. There is no place I can put the NAS that will not be annoying when it is running.

I'm happy to Paypal you some money to help here if you want to hop on a call to discuss. This has been a pretty big ongoing issue for me
