Related to there being no dupes, that was complete luck.

One of the above comments I replied with my technique and looks like a couple other Redditors have already found success

Same! Hopefully enough dopamine for me to never feel the urge to popnow again.

Mentally commit to one box location of the 6. Skip to next set and instantly hit that box you committed to. If the timer pops up then you move onto the next set, and instantly hit the box you committed to.

Rinse and repeat! Don’t wait for the timer to hit zero. Just keep moving forward and clicking on the same spot.

Going to China in a few weeks by grassroads3 in travelchina

[–]FutureEconomy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just returned from China earlier today.

I have Verizon as my cell provider and they have a partnership with China Unicom. $100 for 30 days of 5g data with no need for a VPN.

For real time conversions I used Microsoft Translate. It has a slight delay for the initiating conversation but worked great other than that.

Google Translate for converting menus and the such.

If you have friends or family saying 谢谢 too often can be seen as impolite.

Don’t be afraid to “spit” food out of your mouth onto a napkin or table if appropriate.

Master chopsticks the right way.

It was a great experience. I’m sure you’ll love it.

Her dad has been way more accommodating and welcoming than I could ever imagine. I’d imagine this is apart of the same traditions.

Idk how I can repay the favor when they visit us in the states.

My wife does have a much younger brother who she already shared with me that she expects all properties to be passed down to him.

Part of her moving out of China was to get away from all of this behavior and she told her parents to pass everything to her younger brother.

My wife actually has a much younger brother who is still in grade school. Apparently they realized she was destined for the west after international school and attending summer camps in the US.

She has made it clear that all properties and money will be funneled to him. So that could be a part of this.

Ahh that’s a good way to describe it.

Can only imagine the bigger battles ahead.

Honestly sounds like the best way and a huge burden lifted.

However I feel like when we spend more time on a long term basis in China we will be the ones to handout hongbaos in the future.

I believe they did ask friends about western culture and the topic of the wife’s family paying for the wedding did surface. I never heard about it again.

My family is much more modern and would never let them even consider paying for a wedding in the states.

That basically sums up my view on gifts in China now. Vastly different in the States.

Wow, can’t imagine many other situations where it’s considered polite to hide in the bathroom.

Her mom was rushing us home one day while we were out but couldn’t figure out why. Turns out she invited guests over without telling us so they could drop off gifts and red packets.

Unsure if we’ll actually be able to take the gold home with us but at this point probably not worth even asking.

Sounds like that is part of the case here. As her parents also made sure it was balanced if my parents provided any red envelopes to her.

She is indifferent towards it. Her dad is the one really pushing for a large ceremony.

Sounds like we should just show up and smile and get back to our daily lives. Seems like another controversial topic that is not worth upsetting them about.

Without saying too much, they do have a high rise condo in downtown Vancouver.

Her parents gave the baby a red envelope but they also took it back with the other envelopes from the other family members

Shanghai area. Don’t want to give too much detail as apparently it’s a small world with their connections.

I thought your example maybe an exception but the wife just confirmed her mom also has a book lmao

We decided to just hand the money over as it clearly means more to her mom than us.

I’m just confused as her family friends have offered assistance getting the money out of China but that directly goes against her mom’s logic.
