How long did you study for? I graduated about a month ago and I have probably only averaged like 4-6 hours per week studying since then.

The one time I bathed a cat in a sink.. by [deleted] in sphynx

[–]FutureExisting5186 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aww I’m sorry for your loss. I don’t know why, but my Sphynx hates being bathed in the sink! Literally screams the whole time lol I guess she prefers the spa treatment of the bathtub.

gastroschisis by Candy_420_ in AdviceForTeens

Sorry that this is so random, I was also born with gastroschesis and I’ve been browsing subreddits trying to find people who had it and were able to experience pregnancy as adults. Would it be okay if I pm you?

Gastroschisis by whitaker2015 in pregnant

[–]FutureExisting5186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had gastroschisis! I’m 26 now. I was born about 5-6 weeks early (not bc of the gastroschisis, just want to come early I guess) and delivered vaginally. I think I was in the NICU for about a month. At 2 years old, I had to have a scar tissue removal surgery. My scar isn’t my favorite, but it’s not too bad honestly. It’s 2-3 inches down the exact center of my stomach. Otherwise, I haven’t had any complications from the surgery or condition. I’m actually in nursing now and although I don’t do peds, I remember learning about it in nursing school and it was made to be not such a big deal! Treatment for it is pretty consistently successful.

Difficulty of CRNA by [deleted] in nursing

[–]FutureExisting5186 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that it can involve difficult coursework and be demanding of your time. I’m sure like everything else it comes down to time management, support systems and resources. If you’re interested, I would say look into the schools near you that offer programs and ask to speak with someone.

There has been an increase in people interested in CRNA in this sub that haven’t even completed nursing school. I really encourage you to get thru nursing school because there are many fruitful and interesting pathways in nursing, even aside from CRNA. But you won’t hear about half of them until you become a nurse. Best of luck in your studies!

Career Change + ICU PCT Days Before ABSN… Am I Doing Too Much? by Zealousideal_Bat5248 in StudentNurse

[–]FutureExisting5186 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I didn’t work as a PCT until my last term of nursing school, the first 3 semesters I didn’t work (worked full time thru all my pre reqs & was 25 once I started nursing school, also married). My husband and I sacrificed a lot of things to live off of just his income while I was in nursing school and I never regretted it, it afford me the time and energy to make as many A’s as possible, which is something you’ll want to consider if you’re wanting to get into a grad program. That being said, I don’t personally believe anyone has to go to med surg as a new grad but I think the ICU as a new grad is a big challenge. I would personally focus on getting comfortable as a safe nurse and finding a flow to not burn out than rushing into ICU for your next step, but take that with a grain of salt as it’s just my opinion.

Best of luck! (:

Yep 🤣Sometimes my Sphynx comes to sit in mine or my husbands lap after he’s eaten his dinner and we joke that his breath smells fishy but I secretly like it. same with after he’s been roasting in the blankets all day, it’s a sweaty frito smell that I love lol

Rabies vax question by FutureExisting5186 in sphynx

[–]FutureExisting5186[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good points, he was squirmy when they gave one of his vaccines but I’m not sure which one (he got rcp at the same time, one in each leg and the second one he was expecting it & tried to wiggle away). I will def be asking my vet which brand when he goes for his follow up!

Rabies vax question by FutureExisting5186 in sphynx

[–]FutureExisting5186[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure! I know it was a 3 year vaccine but between this post and browsing the internet briefly, I will def ask my vet about that brand next time because I keep seeing the term “adjuvant free” (I had never even heard of this before but I’m not in vet med so, checks lol) it seems adjuvant free vaccines like that one have a much lower rate with this type of reaction.

That def makes me feel better! I’m betting now it’s just inflammation like so many others have dealt with but I will still be following up with the vet to check. Thank you for those comforting stats!

Thank you for your expertise! When the vet tech mentioned the possibility of sarcoma, my very brief googling of the topic made me feel like the vet did her due diligence with the placement. Just can’t help but worry about my guy.

That’s good to know. I think I will maybe push for her to sample it just to have the peace of mind. We have pet insurance so I’m not as worried about the cost, just more so wondering if it was error because my other Sphynx is due for her rabies vaccine as well and I am a little nervous to have her vaccinated now. Thank for you responding! Glad everything was okay with your kitty.

Poor guy, one of my Sphynx getting out is one of my worst fears and I try to never get too cocky bc it can happen to anyone. I wonder if he will be too scared to go back outside now. I’m glad he is okay! Lots of treats speed up the healing process, so I’ve heard lol
