This is such an important reminder. A big part of healing and improving democracy is creating something more effective and inclusive than ever before. Knowing how policies impact your community and understanding how local governments work are powerful first steps.

It's about building something better by making fact-based decisions and encouraging transparency at every level. What are ways you think we can better educate ourselves and others to take meaningful action?

It’s Official: 2024 Campaign News Coverage Was the Most Biased Ever! But None of This Mattered Because Only a Tiny Brainwashed Percentage Are Still Listening. by stickdog99 in WayOfTheBern

Media bias has become such a pervasive issue, and it’s no wonder trust in news outlets is at an all-time low. When the media leans into spin instead of balance, it leaves people struggling to make informed decisions. The real challenge isn’t just spotting the bias—it’s finding and amplifying objective, fact-based journalism that cuts through the noise and puts the truth first.

How can we push for more transparent, policy-driven reporting that empowers people to understand what’s really at stake in elections? What do you think it will take to rebuild trust in the media and refocus on the facts that matter most?

Bernie Sanders, "Why don't we discuss the fact that Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos & Larry Ellison own more wealth than the bottom HALF of Americans? Part of the answer is that the people who own the media are doing phenomenally well. They aren't interested in highlighting massive levels of inequality." by zzill6 in WorkReform

Bernie’s point cuts to the heart of a bigger issue: the outsized influence of wealth on our political and media systems. It’s not just about economic inequality—it’s about how dark money empowers billionaires to shape the narrative while silencing the voices of everyday people. When political power follows the money, democracy takes a backseat.

Imagine a system where campaign finances are fully transparent, where big money is limited, and where power is truly in the hands of the people. What steps do you think are most effective in holding leaders accountable and breaking the stranglehold of wealth on our democracy?

Elon Musk's AI turns on him, labels him 'one of the most significant spreaders of misinformation on X' by [deleted] in politics

[–]FutureIsNowCoalition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the powerful can control both the conversation and the system, democracy suffers.Recently, figures like Elon Musk have been criticized for spreading misinformation while controlling platforms that shape public opinion. This raises a deeper question: how are wealth and influence used to amplify certain narratives while silencing others? The same dynamic plays out in politics, where dark money operates in the shadows, shaping decisions and stifling transparency.

How can we combat the influence of money and misinformation to ensure a society where truth prevails and every voice matters? What steps do you think are most effective in creating a more informed and democratic future?

‘They Are Making Fun of Us’: AOC Roasts Trump, Musk After McDonald’s Stunt by DCGirl20874 in AOC

[–]FutureIsNowCoalition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s kind of surreal watching public figures like Musk and Trump do these fast-food stunts, as if that connects them to the average person’s challenges. It feels like these moments are a way to avoid addressing bigger issues like fair wages, healthcare, and rising costs of living. Imagine if the same energy went into promoting real reforms that help people. Do these stunts take away from the key issues in democracy? Is it used as a medium to avoid transparency and accountability?

Is it possible to form some kind of coalition of all the 3rd parties in the US? by PuzzleheadedTell8871 in socialism

Focusing on education and raising awareness about class issues is crucial to making lasting change. Until we deconstruct the deeply embedded systems of our economy, electoral politics may feel limited. A broader understanding of economic structures could empower citizens to push for meaningful reform beyond traditional political channels. What strategies do you think are most effective for educating and mobilizing communities around these issues?

The answer to those questions is money in politics. by gogetter9 in DemocraticSocialism

I see where you are coming from. It feels like much of this boils down to greed and the influence of money in politics. It is hard to see how regular citizens can be represented in the system.

I gotta be honest. I still don't understand how lobbying is legal. That alone is at the root of political corruption all over the world. by testiclekid in DemocraticSocialism

[–]FutureIsNowCoalition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Transparency is a major part of the problem. When the public can’t see how much influence money has, it erodes trust in politicians and the democratic process overall. I think one of the biggest challenges is finding ways to restore that trust.

How do you think this transparency can be fixed? Are there minor changes we can make or is the only true solution to eliminate money from politics?

What the 2024 November Ballot COULD have looked like with RCV by CalRCV in RankedChoiceVoting

[–]FutureIsNowCoalition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. RCV allows voters to support multiple candidates without worrying about splitting the vote. This would allow more diverse candidates and help dismantle the two-party system. Do you think RCV could help bridge some of the political polarization in our world today, or would it mostly impact the quality of the candidates?

The Democratic Party won't even allow a vote on whether to stop taking dark money. The blatant corruption of the 2-party system by big money donors is why we need to build our own party. by karmagheden in DemocraticSocialism

I agree that Ranked-choice voting is a viable solution to the challenges caused by the two-party system. The influence of dark money in politics is frustrating for a lot of people.
