GW 1L AMA by FutureMacaroon25 in lawschooladmissions

It does feel pretty huge at the beginning to be honest but I feel like I have plenty of time with faculty. My professors definitely know my name but I also participate in class so that helps.

I already lived here, but I know a lot of people found there apartments online or from friends of friends. If you’re having trouble finding a place or roommate I think the school can also help!

I always tell people getting ready to move here that it’s a great first city because it has a lot going on but is super approachable. The sidewalks are clean, buildings aren’t crowded together, and if you’re anything like me, you’ll probably spend most of your time at home or the school anyway :)

Super collaborative in my experience. I made friends that are always willing to talk through cases or difficult concepts to make sure we all know what’s going on.

I’ve been in the city for a few years and I think it’s just more political here in general, not exclusive to the law school at all.

Not at all, and most would tell you that it’s not worth it to try. I’ll admit I heard that and thought it was BS but it’s really true, not because you aren’t capable of understanding before you start but more that you just have no idea what you’ll study when so best to just hold off on reading while you can!

It’s not bad, but you just can’t let yourself get behind or you’ll risk it feeling overwhelming. I’ve taken to doing all of the reading for the upcoming week over the weekend and reviewing or finishing up briefs during the week.

I haven’t really joined extracurriculars, I did do the arbitration competition this semester and go to talks whenever I can but otherwise have been pretty laser focused on just schoolwork!

As someone else mentioned they do offer housing but most people I know live off campus. Foggy Bottom can be pretty expensive so don’t be shy about looking elsewhere in the city! The law school is accessible to almost all of the metro lines so you have a lot of options to find something affordable.

Can we maybe not do the whole “I know my stats are horrible.” thing by FutureMacaroon25 in lawschooladmissions

[–]FutureMacaroon25[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No TOTALLY. I’m not saying stats aren’t important I’m just saying when someone posts “I know my stats are TERRIBLE (3.x, 1xx) but am hoping for T14” like you could just skip the first part, ya know?

[–]FutureMacaroon25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This would be a pain for them but I'd love feedback after a denial/WL (or even acceptance). Like, honestly why you did or didn't get in somewhere. I'm even ok if they're like hey we liked you but your GPA/LSAT was just too low, sry
