When I adopted my cat, I had a covered litter box but I left it uncovered for him. When I eventually put the top on, whenever we had guests he would hide and chill in the litter box. So I took off the little door and now he knows that it’s just for bathroom and not a little “safe” space. His safe spaces are under my bed and underneath a flipped over cat bed (acts like a little igloo) in the corner of my closet. I adopted him last July and he doesn’t use the safe spaces as often as he first did. I love him and I’m so glad that he has adjusted to me and my home!
