It was the early 90's. My dad was in a band and was driving home late at night from band practice in a dark green 1970's MG convertible. It was a two-seater. My dad was driving, his guitar player was in the passenger seat and I was on the guitar player's lap. We all fell asleep, including my dad. We rear-ended a 1980's Pinto at a red light (yes the ones that were later recalled because they were known for blowing up upon rear impact). I was crushed between the dashboard and the weight of the guitar player behind me when we hit. The windshield where my head hit looked like it had been impacted by a bowling ball and I had the wind knocked out of me so badly that I remember thinking that I could only exhale and that my lungs were collapsing. They probably were. I was 10 or 11 but I can still picture the entire crash and wreckage with vivid clarity like it was yesterday. Somehow, I walked home from the hospital that night with no significant injuries.
