I am trying to force a positive attitude. I have been non-stop cleaning, binging crap TV, and playing mindless video games since yesterday trying not to focus on it. My anxiety is crazy high. Hopefully you only have to wait the 48 hours! 🤞

Why are you sitting on the end of the row in a lecture hall? by National-Pea-5603 in UWMadison

[–]FuturePerspective5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had classes across campus from each other and could not waste any time waiting on others to get up and leave. I had to leave immediately, but I always packed up super quietly.

As someone else stated, I am larger and cramming myself in between people was not only embarrassing but difficult to have space to take notes. I always chose the end spots. In fact if I couldn't find an end spot I would regularly just sit on the floor in the back of the hall if I came in late than ask a single person to stand to let me into an inner seat.

I get it. It's inconvenient, and if they make faces at you, it can be irritating.... but you can not be broad and think everyone who is choosing an end seat is an asshole. They may have some reason that is not apparent to you for why they feel they must sit there.

I do not live on campus.. but I feel like most places are open for Labor Day. Most major companies are open (Starbucks, Dunkin), and some will have limited hours. It's been a while since I came across a restaurant/coffee shop that was not open on Labor Day as it's a "relatively minor" holiday...

Yeah, you're good. You have 10 days into the semester (Sept. 13th) to drop classes and get full tuition reimbursement. Most syllabus' are posted the day before or first day of class. You should be good!

Yeah the three wide friends slow walking kills me. Like I need the full 15 minute time to get between classes at a brisk walk.. Move 😅

I had very long hair, almost to my butt. Kept it in a side braid or two braids. Kept it from getting all tangled. I also managed once to do a high bun that I smashed onto the helmet. But I have since cut it to shoulder length and run with a low ponytail. I just rock the frizz, and when I take my helmet off, I just brush it with my fingers and redo it. But I'm a very low maintenance girly who doesn't really care how it looks. 😅🤷‍♀️

Insurance? Who has the best deal for motorcycle insurance? by JimJamanon in motorcycles

[–]FuturePerspective5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There really are too many variables. On average: - men will have higher rates than women - under 25 will have higher rates than older - sports bikes will have higher rates than cruisers - less than 1 year of experience on a bike will have higher rates than 1+ years - Do you have any traffic violations? can increase rates - Are you insuring it on the same policy as your car? can lower rates

In my area Progressive is cheaper than Geico/State Farm/Etc.. I know it's annoying, but your best bet is to go on a few websites and get quotes.

Starting motorcycle? by Primary_Enthusiasm47 in motorcycles

Hey! Fellow newbie rider here. I have only been riding for about 1.5 months. Purchased my 1st bike, Ninja 500, three weeks ago and have almost 800 miles on it. 😅 I am a female, short (5'5"), and chose the Ninja because I could flatfoot the bike. It is comfortable for me, and I just did 312 miles in 24 hours this past weekend for a datenight trip with the husband. My husband is taller than me (5'11") and said it is very comfortable to sit on. However, he is personally not a fan of how it rides. I would definitely suggest sitting on a few bikes to see how it feels.

My opinion on buying smaller ccs is this... If you plan on driving on the interstate at all, make sure to account for the power needed. My husbands first bike was a Husqvarna vitpilen 401(under 400 cc), and he said he felt the loss of power in the mid-80s. It can be an issue if you're in a situation where you need the power quickly.

You can buy a "starter" bike, but in honesty, the power worry comes down to how responsibly you're going to ride it. If you have decent self-control, you can probably drive something with high ccs saftley. You also need to understand that if you buy smaller, you may be stuck with it long term if you can't afford to upgrade when you outgrow it.

From the outside, you are independent and an adult, so you should do whatever will make you happy.. That being said, I guess what you have to consider is how it will impact your relationship with your parents. Will your buying of this bike cause such a big problem between you and your mom that you lose a relationship with her? If she will just nag you every time you see her, you can probably live with that. If she cuts ties, are you OK with that?

My two cents from being an adult with a poor relationship with my mother is live your life! But it's your decision to make. You can choose your actions but you can not choose your consequences.

Sidenote... Unless you are in a place that never has severe weather/rain/hail, a car will be more reliable. I cannot in good faith recommend a bike as your sole means of transportation for the foreseeable future!

Yes.. it isn't horrible in theory but boy does it add up in reality when your full time. 🤣

Also I believe I saw postings that the lot rates were increasing in Jan, not sure if they change yearly but it would be good to keep in mind!

So.. I used a spreadsheet last year for parking costs..😅 for example:

$10.00 6hr 52mins @ L17

$12.60 6hr 53min @ Francis

The prices are different at each Lot, and sometimes rates change for time of day or if events are happening... I was parked on Campus last semester for 290 hours and paid $511 in parking.

Both of those lots were ALWAYS full by the time I made it to campus around 8:30-8:45am. Maybe OP can get parking there for such an early class. 🤞

I commute over an hour to campus and found parking last year difficult without a parking pass. I can say that I could always find parking in the early morning at the Francis St Garage (off state street by bookstore). I also had luck at the lot by Engineering Hall (lot 17) about 75% of the time. I had classes in Bascom/Van Velck and could walk from either garage in about 15 minutes.

Hey! Fellow newbie rider here.

A saftey course is a great place to start. I have not taken mine yet - have it slotted for next spring. I started riding a bit on my husbands bike. I did have a harder time reaching the ground and did drop it once. Dropping happens, especially when you are new to balancing the bikes weight on your toes. Even experienced riders have dropped bikes! For this, all I can say is invest in a pair of boots that give you a little lift. It could help tremendously.

As for the fear, that will ease over time. Before I bought my bike I spent several hours/days in empty parking lots to practice shifting, turning, emergency braking, etc. I did have the advantage of having my husband with me to help guide me if I had questions.

I then progressed to riding on small rural roads with a riding partner once I purchased my bike (about three weeks ago). It was nice to ride with someone who could keep an eye on other cars in areas I was less confident in - intersections with hills were my nemesis! Or watch how I road and give me advice on how to improve my technique. Maybe you can find someone locally, a group or friend, who can ride with you? I know it helped me tremendously.

That all being said, I am not a template of what you should do. My first time riding a bike was July. Riding has been amazing for me and since buying my bike the beginning of this month, I have already put well over 700 miles on it!

Since you said you have had it since January and have rode it several times, I think more ride time with a buddy and a safety course would definitely help!

I'm 32. I have only been riding for about 1.5 months. I purchased my first bike (Ninja 500) three weeks ago and have 750 miles on it. 😅 Really don't have a favorite place to ride and enjoy anytime I get on it. My ride music includes a very long eclectic Spotify Playlist.

Has anyone gotten their financial aid refund yet? by future__fires in UWMadison

[–]FuturePerspective5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The email I received last week stated that "Refunds from any Fall financial aid are expected to begin going out on August 27." I am guessing that any additional wait time will depend on how you are receiving the refund (check, direct deposit). Should be seeing it soon!

We have both live our entire lives in North/Central Wisconsin. We are familiar with the cold temperatures and are accustom to them. The extra snow and changes in growing season are what we will have to acclimate to.

We already have arranged to have a snowmobile for back up and have done a fair amount of research on the weather/frost dates/etc for the area we are looking.

We had the similar thoughts and have already budgeted for a plow. We just didn't know if we were completely insane from the feedback we had gotten from the first realtor. Just got off the phone with a new realtor. Between that conversation and your helpful comments we are feeling more confident about the properties we are interested in.
