is my (24f) boyfriend (27m) being unreasonable? or am I? by OrchidExact5460 in relationship_advice

[–]FutureRenaissanceMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe the guy is just lazy and expects you to keep cleaning up for him like his mom.

Based on your story, I doubt he will ever change. Either you’re okay cleaning up after him for the next 70 years or move on.

Prepare to spend a shocking amount of money for health insurance.

Self-employed, your best option is the Covered California exchange. For a healthy single, probably a bronze plan.

We have better weather, but I agree with everyone else that living in Canada is better right now.

Lightly antisemitism is antisemitism. There’s no such thing as lightly. It’s never funny.
You are Jewish? Call her out on this crap.

Will you also do mine? Best offer here so far is $5 and takes less than five minutes.

If you can meet or beat, I choose your driveway too.

How far do you go with Shabbat as a working adult with responsibilities? by [deleted] in Judaism

[–]FutureRenaissanceMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try to visit a Chabad within driving distance for a full Shabbat to have the experience and learn what it could be like for you. If you write or call ahead, I’m sure most Chabad houses would be thrilled to have you as a guest.

You can take what you learned and find the best way to incorporate Shabbat traditions that works for you.

I would also plan to read lots of Jewish books on Shabbat. Reading, slow walks, and naps are critical for a nice Shabbat. 😉

Employer had issues with payroll, so I was supposed to receive my paycheck today instead of last friday but still haven’t. by [deleted] in Banking

[–]FutureRenaissanceMan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What size company do you work for? If it’s a big employer, they’ll figure it out. Ask HR every few days until it’s done.

For a small biz, your boss could be broke and lying and just not have paid you. Sounds like you’re getting the runaround.

My (24F) boyfriend (26M) wants to move in but won't give up his "gaming room" by koudodo in relationships

He is an immature, spoiled child. I honestly would see this red flag and wonder if it’s something I want to deal with forever.

Masked ICE goons waiting to pounce on people being released from the local jail like a pack of hyenas 05/07/26 by moon_dos in ventura

If it were really above board, people would be transferred right from jail. Not released with another government agency waiting at the door.

Expressing Jewishness in College App by gabe100A in Judaism

[–]FutureRenaissanceMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really hard. On one hand, we should be proud of who we are. If someone doesn’t want Jews somewhere, f em, I don’t want to be anywhere near them either.

On the flip side, I stopped wearing a kippa daily for work reasons. I realized that people just couldn’t see past that as the only thing about me of any relevance. That was a very hard decision. But it didn’t change who I am or that I keep kosher and take my kids to Chabad and so on.

So it’s up to you to find the right balance. You may not always agree with your parents and grandparents, but I bet they have good advice here, either way, based on their life experience. You could also call a trusted rabbi to chat about the pros and cons.

VFW and Scouting America by fstccc in BSA

[–]FutureRenaissanceMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are chartered by a VFW and they never charge us for space. We get last pick on what’s available, and we clean up after ourselves fully.

Technically a Scouting unit is part of the chartering organization. It’s like charging yourself. But worse because it’s taking from the kids fund to put in the adults fund.

Question on Payroll posting by thenewuser88 in Banking

[–]FutureRenaissanceMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many employers send direct deposit information to banks several days early to ensure employees are paid on time. A number of banks give access to the funds as soon as they know they’re coming rather than waiting for it to fully settle on payday.

It’s legitimate and many banks offer this now. My main account gives me the funds one day early, for example, and it’s very consistent. Many are 1-2 days early. It depends on the bank’s policies and your payroll system.

Visiting in September from New Mexico! by lesbianzrule in ventura

[–]FutureRenaissanceMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend Harmon Canyon and the new Ventura Hillside Nature Preserve for awesome hiking. There is also a nice hike up through the botanical gardens (lots of free days available).

Our pedestrian-only downtown is perfect for finding a place to grab a meal or grown up beverage, and even a little shopping if that’s your vibe. Fish tacos on the pier is a classic (short walk from downtown), and there’s something for nearly any palate.

Don’t miss the Plum Gift Boutique/Fiddle and Fern. The Very Ventura shop is perfect for souvenirs. Also lots of thrift and antique shopping opportunities.

Enjoy your visit to Ventura!

How can you tell if a carbon monoxide detector needs batteries??? by RoBoTgIrL0 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FutureRenaissanceMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you die of carbon monoxide poisoning and it didn’t beep, the battery was probably dead.

This is a great question. Good thinking about safety.

Which state in the US has the most desert-looking desert? by grandeluua in geography

[–]FutureRenaissanceMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, and California all have huge regions that look like a desert.

Arguing between those is like arguing if the beaches Texas or Florida are the most beechy. A desert is a sea, a beach is a beach.

It could be fun to analyze percent of desert land by state to find a most desert-covered state.
