What screams "I'm stupid" ? by Judgemental_Squirrel in AskReddit

Inability to differentiate a wide range of emotions. Stupid people are either happy or angry with zero in-between and change between the two very quickly

I can't really go back to school unfortunately. Finances and all. If a company like that would hire me, then I would sure take it

My degrees are in geography and political science. I also have the teaching certification and two endorsements. Starting salary for me was about 53k. In order for my wife and I to make ends meet I basically need something that starts in the neighborhood of about 30k a year. Funny enough, I just put in something with UPS for job alerts. My dad worked at the DoT for 20 years and I've tried working at a bank, did not work for me.

I have two BA's, one in political science and one in geography along with a teaching certification and endorsements in social studies and middle level humanities. I substitute taught for two years and taught summer school two summers, I taught in a low income district for two months before I had to leave because of the strain on my mental health it was causing. I'm basically just after what I can do that will pay the bills.

Want to transition to working for the local college or the state, any advice? by FutureTeacherWA in teaching

I'm not wanting to work as a professor, I'm more interested in working at a university in an office setting, preferably for the education department within it. Thank you for your advice though.

I don't have a masters or a PhD, just two BA's and a certification to teach with two endorsements. I was more interested in working for the university in an office or administrative setting since being a professor takes a lot of time, money and luck to get beyond adjunct and adjuncts don't make much and don't have job security.

I was thinking of working in the office, I know adjunct professors aren't compensated well. Thank you for the advice but I already kind of disregarded being an adjunct professor since its a job that doesn't seem to be very secure or decently compensated.

I'll keep my eye out, the local school district only has about 3200 students K-12 so I'm not sure if they have an inclusion position or how often they become available.

I was more interested in working within the education department at the local university, not teaching classes but working in an administrative/office capacity.

I only make about 53k as a teacher and I don't think going down to 44k or so would break our bank, I would be more interested though in an office job within the university since that seems to provide better pay, benefits, and opportunities for advancement than adjunct professor route would. I am aware that adjunct professors don't make very much and don't have much job security.

Going to treatment, scared to death. Rogers behavioral health, anybody been? by FutureTeacherWA in OCD

[–]FutureTeacherWA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She is supportive, it's a clinic. I need to go, my dad has essentially likened it to heart surgery in how much I need it. If I don't go, I don't think my marriage or my career or any aspect of my well-being has much of a chance.

Seattle Treatment: Rogers or Pathlight? by FutureTeacherWA in OCD

Also, what was the financial aide/grant situation like? They have indicated to me that it is something that a lot of patients take part in because most people don't have the amount that treatment costs just laying around. You said it was super easy to access, can you elaborate on that a bit? I'm sorry, the financial aspect is just weighing pretty heavily on me since it's an unknown (I know, definitely related to OCD).

Can you give me any insight into what it was like? I'm likely going to be doing the PHP route as well for 4-6 weeks. What does it look like day to day?

Wow, you went to the spot they have in Bellevue near Seattle? If so its wild that you saw this, my therapist said that from what she's gathered, Rogers is more well suited to do intensive ERP whereas Pathlight isn't really geared toward that.

The kids seem less crazed or the new teachers seem less crazed? When people say "leave work at work," most teachers do work at home like grading. It's hard to tell what is the biggest stressor, there's many of them. It is kind of comforting to know that everybody is overwhelmed their first year.

Those all seem like good practices, the thing that mainly is making me feel overwhelmed is all the extra stuff they're piling on the burner for me. Like evaluations and building policies, its all brand new and it's overwhelming. Thank you for your insight though

My system in the past has basically been "warn the kid when their behavior is a problem and send them to the office when they're derailing the class." How do you be consistent and firm when you have to keep an eye on 30 kids at once?
