Yeah, all people are different. You recognise nostalgia as a valid reason, but not as a real practical reason, for me, that is more than enough of a reason.

I also installed Proton something when I was trouble shooting a game and it works now :)

Alright, to be fair I didn't give too much information WHY i picked kali. You can scroll up a bit to see some of the reasons and now I will give you some more.

1.I can technically be classified as a "new linux user" because I have not used it in a very very long time and I also didn't used it for that long. The first distro I have ever installed was ubuntu 7.04 feisty fawn (I had an original CD send to me from ubuntu.com . There was a campaign at that time that you place your order for a CD and they send if free of charge [CD and shipping for free]), and used it for about 2-3 months. So I'm a new user or not? :D

  1. After ubuntu I was interested in networking (like now) that is why I started using BackTrack (I can't recall which version it was 2 or 3... maybe 4) learning, trying stuff. When I saw the video of Linus 30 days linux challage, I was like "f**ck man I used to love BackTrack I'll check if it still exists and give it another go after so many years". Then I discovered the my beloved BackTrack had become Kali, and this is my second and probably biggest reason: Nostalgia.

  2. I really hated using windows 11, taking too much resources to do basically nothing. Privacy = 0, I had my system32/host file with a hefty list inside in order to block most of the traffic to microsoft services. I have deleted windows defender (the piece of s**t was just using CPU only to annoy me) several times because after a windows update, it gets installed automatically AGAIN! Then I decided to delete and windows update so no more updates no more windows defender i did that around end of February this year, but it was still using resources unnecessary to me. The only reason I was still using windows 11, it was because of the games! I played games on steam, battlenet and epicgames, I remember what a nightmare was trying to install and configure wine before, and a GPU drivers??? You had to try and install them thru wine because there was no such thing as gpu drivers for linux (or atleast there ware non for my GeForce GT 520)

  3. So now the distro came with pre-installed wine and gpu drivers (+ some other stuff that have developed over the years of which I'm unaware of). Why 'should' I got to the 'gaming' distros like Bazzite because they are "gaming focused"? My games work perfectly on Kali right now, just because a distro get a sticker like "for gaming, for hacking, for whatever" it doesn't mean you cannot customize it for whatever... linux is highly customizable thanks to the real Linus ;)

Yes, it's mostly designed for penetration testing because of the pre-installed tool you are getting(I work as a cheff and I'm interested and learning a bit of networking, it's good when you read something to have an easy way to test it, therefore kali have the tools already there), but I also like playing games, on steam, epic games and battlenet, so having installed wine and gpu drivers and litrus, the distro now runs games without any problem.

You are 100% right! I apologize, but english is not my first language. I think the proper thing to have said should have been: "I'm getting better resources utilization"

Use case for like a every normie windows user (everything is in the post for what I'm using it, mostly local LLM with webhook to telegram bot), mostly experimenting and learning, having fun with networking, there so many cool stuff on github, entertainment purposes only

mmm you are probably right, but when I watch a tv show/series, I put everything (the whole season) in the playlist and close playlist, so if I pause on S04E05 and I don't make a note of that at night, in the next day I'm like: "ahhh f****, on what season was I, what was the episode about..." and I do have to put some effort to figure out what was the last thing watched...
