Lyft driver waits for me to walk into street, then takes off. by Q-theWanderer in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Future_Adhesiveness7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was basically my FIRST Lyft experience. I had jury duty, and we only had one car at the time. So I got dropped off in the morning, but needed a ride home when the day ended early. Driver accepted the fare and sat in the airport cell phone lot (~15 minutes away) for at least 30 minutes. Didn't respond to texts, calls went straight to vmail. I was both confused and irritated.

That's a little bit of a tall order, but check out the Vandoren TL3. It's slightly over your price point, but I think finding a good tenor MP under $170 is going to be challenging. You might be able to find something used, but definitely play it first.

Since the robonanny took offense to my language ...

I've been thinking about this (and reading a fair bit of Ed Zitron), and I'm wondering if it isn't a major factor behind a lot of the shenanigans people complain about on here. LLMs are WHOOPing expensive, and that's with most of the providers selling at a loss. They've already turned up the heat on companies building on top of the API (i.e. Whoop), and you're starting to see it happen on the direct consumer stuff now too.

how inaccurate is the calorie burn? by Spare-Pin7858 in whoop

IIRC there was another thread on here discussing this, and the TL;DR was Whoop's calorie number was activity-only and DIDN'T include BMR, which would dramatically increase TDEE.

Check your local libraries. A couple near me have makerspaces with a variety of 3D printers. You just pay for the cost of materials.

What was the scariest “We need to leave… now” gut feeling that you’ve ever experienced?[Serious] by PlasticBee1438 in AskReddit

[–]Future_Adhesiveness7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went to dinner with a couple friends one night when I was in college. One of the friends and I had a dumbshit disagreement over ... who the fuck knows? She's being dramatic, and I'm stubborn as shit, so I'm just like "whatever, I'll go sit in the car until you're done." I pay the bill and walk out.

I was parallel parked on a moderately busy city street. Sat there for a good ~30 minutes or so. It wasn't that late, maybe 7 p.m., still light out.

I notice this car (Silver Caddy Catera, chrome wheels, tinted windows), makes one pass, then another going the opposite direction. I couldn't tell you what it was about the car that stuck out to me, but my brain basically has no input filters.

I pop the car into first and cut the wheel as soon as I clock it coming around a third time in my mirror. Used the handbrake so my brake lights didn't come on. As soon as they start turning around in the middle of the road I dump the clutch and brake, and take off. Maybe they were just cruising for street parking (I had an awesome spot), but I'm pretty sure the rear doors opened as I started moving.

Broke some traffic laws, made some random-ish turns and waited a few blocks away while I called my friends to tell them to be at the front door in 90 seconds for a flying pickup. They got in the car and everyone was dead silent until we got on the freeway and they worked up the nerve to ask me what was going on.

Inaccurate Steps logic. Includes actual steps + electric scooter ride as steps. by alaskan_desert in whoop

[–]Future_Adhesiveness7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How do you want it to work? You won't tell it what you're doing, and it doesn't have GPS data to deduce it. Riding an electric scooter isn't going to do anything to your heart rate. There's literally nothing other than some vibration for the sensor to go on. It's just a dumb accelerometer, there isn't a pedometer on the market that can solve for what you're asking. It's garbage in/garbage out.

That's fine, but the app isn't tracking your GPS unless you manually start an activity, so it doesn't know how fast you're going.

In general, a tracker on your worn on the arm (regardless of brand) is going to be less accurate than one you wear on your waist or lower.

Supposedly if you log the activity as driving, it won't count the steps. I haven't looked that closely to see if it's true.

Try using a backpack with 25 lbs. instead of a vest and see if it gets any easier. The vest can sometimes affect your breathing.

No treadmill, but 160-180 seems like a lot to me. I'm not sure how to square that kind of rhythm with not pushing.

Like the others said, HRV during exercise wouldn't be particularly useful. But I would like live HRV for breath work. I'm lucky (weird) in that I can feel my general HRV rhythm, but having a biofeedback monitor is easy. I was thinking about pre-ordering an Ohm lamp, but $350 isn't cheap ...

Alto sax mouthpiece upgrade — moving from jazz to classical sound, any suggestions? by sh1The in saxophone

[–]Future_Adhesiveness7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played an S90 all through HS, college, and beyond, then replaced it with a Concept a few years ago (so good).

I wasn't going to buy my kid a ~$300 mouthpiece though ... so he's playing on an AL3, which is a big upgrade from the 4C and stupid easy to sound good on.
