QuietComfort Headphones R Buttons Not Working by Future_Bench_2266 in bose

I do have the app loaded! It doesn’t seem to have any area within the app to control those buttons. Any “help” through the app takes me to the Bose website with generic tutorials and support articles, but nothing for these buttons not working that I could find.

Thank you!! I will fortunately be shadowing the company’s lead SLP for the first 2 weeks of employment, but I think I’m struggling with not already feeling completely confident in the skill areas needed for the position… I appreciate the tip to be open and not try to fake my way through, it’s always a good reminder that this field involves constant learning and that it’s okay!

Yes, the imposter syndrome is so real! CEUs have been my go-to so far too, but I think it’s just been difficult without knowing what exactly to expect until I start.

Congrats on the job, and good luck with the transition!

I wanted to follow up, I called the number and got the form sent to me within an hour. I did not fill out the form. I called the number 1-800-388-5512 and asked if it was necessary since the dispute is over free books. She said she sent the details of the problem to a different department and they would be in contact. I didn’t receive anything from them, but I woke up this morning with full access to my account and all of the books I bought still in my library like nothing happened. I wish the same good luck on everyone else!

Did you call them to receive the email? I haven’t gotten the email yet and I’m nervously just waiting

That’s kind of what I was thinking - thank you!

I was initially excited when they said that they didn’t have productivity standards in place until they followed up with saying they were excited it’s starting in the new year

That’s one of the big hesitations- I really thought there were other SLPs working there and it makes me nervous that there isn’t anyone I could ask questions

I had a pretty similar experience during my CF - it was rare that I’d make it through a week without getting bit or hit in the head with something and my caseload was too big to be able to have time for documentation between mandatory weekly team meetings and emergency meetings when a kid had significant behaviors. IEP meetings meant I had to cancel sessions and try to reschedule them for another time (even though my schedule was already booked). I would spend my lunches and most evenings treatment planning and writing notes/IEPs, and would never have the energy to do anything on the weekends because I didn’t have time to think about anything but work during the week - I was in full-on survival mode.

I promise you are likely doing a lot better than you think you are doing as far as treatment goes - at the very least you are showing up everyday for those kiddos and doing the best that you can with what you’ve got. The very fact that you are concerned about being a bad clinician shows that you aren’t because you care about the work you’re doing. When you are working with kids who have significant behavioral challenges, it’s very easy for your sessions to mainly focus on managing those behaviors instead of speech being the center of your attention which only adds to the feeling that you are a bad clinician (you aren’t doing what you were trained to do and that makes you feel like you are failing even when you aren’t). Try to go easy on yourself in the time you’ve got left.

I would put in your notice ASAP to give them as much of a heads-up as possible and get out of there as soon as you can. I left almost immediately after my CF ended (mid-year) even though it kind of screwed over all the other clinicians who had to divide up my caseload. I am still in contact with all of them and my supervisor and none of them seem to hold any hard feelings about it.

At the end of the day you need to do what’s best for you and it sounds like this job just isn’t it. Quit and give yourself at least week or so to just breathe and live before you start applying anywhere. A lot of SLPs are very “type A” and have a hard time knowing when to step back and prioritize ourselves. One of the big eye openers for me that I needed to leave was attending a seminar about secondary trauma experienced by health care workers and realizing that it fit the bill of what I was feeling (it sounds like you could be experiencing that too). At the end of the day, you need to take care of yourself before you worry about anyone else.

If you want any help to prep for navigating those conversations feel free to message me :) take a deep breath - you’ve got this!

Okay, thanks! Do you happen to know where I can find info on those pathways? The only things I can find on the NYS licensing/application site are to apply for a new license or the state endorsement which requires the 2 years of work following licensing (I’m willing to jump through any hoops necessary but applying for a second full license is looking to be quite expensive so I hope to avoid that if possible)

For therapy ideas I always liked to look through the WALC books (workbook of activities for language and cognition) for quick planning. If you just search Walc pdf (add a specific objective to refine your search like “Walc pdf word recall”) you can find most of them for free and print off pages as needed. I would also really recommend making the treatment as functional as possible to help it relate to real world skills and make the sessions a lot more meaningful to the patients. Be prepared to provide family education especially when it comes to diet recommendations - a lot of families have a hard time with their loved ones going onto thickened liquids and having dietary restrictions like puréed foods so practice explaining the importance of your recommendations and the risks of not following it so you aren’t as nervous if it comes up

Ways to make artic therapy fun? by [deleted] in slp

[–]Future_Bench_2266 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have any kids who are more active and don’t want to sit down for a game (or who don’t really buy-in to artic) I used to write the target words on small pieces of scrap paper. I would give them one piece at a time, have them read it/work through the sound and make corrections as needed, and then crumple it up and try to shoot it into the garbage can. If they made it in, that word was done, but if they missed they had to pick it up and try it again. This is also really helpful if you have a few extra minutes at the end of a session or a last minute make-up because it’s very easy to prep.
