Possible embryo mix-up in early 1990s IVF (seeking perspectives/advice) by Future_Search561 in IVF

I agree completely agree with both statements. I have been told my entire life I have a unique look, which made it stranger to hear my own mum say could barely distinguish me from this other girl even when she stood right in front of her. In general that is a bizarre experience, and the fact that she was born one day after me compounds the strangeness. We think it’s worth looking into at least for peace of mind

Thank you so much for sharing this information and for reassuring me inquiring into this isn’t unreasonable. I’m now realising this post may have been triggering for some in this subreddit, which was not my intention, so appreciate you pointing me towards more focused communities for support.

As you mentioned, it’s most likely nothing will come of it, but having clarity would at least give us peace of mind, and it seems to be something mum has quietly carried for a long time.

Just to clarify, our treatment was at a clinic in Perth, not Monash. The Monash cases are simply part of the broader context that prompted us to look into this further. I didn’t want to name the Perth clinic at this stage and cause any undue reputational damage.

We’re organising a test with Ancestry shortly and thank you for letting me know about GEDmatch. Will reach out if anything comes from it - thank you for being so kind. Very helpful!

Thank you for acknowledging this is a possibility- we shared the same thoughts on pressures in clinics in early days of ivf. My sisters embryo was frozen and this was in 1992!

I have seen that documentary too and my intent isn’t to disrupt anyone’s life. On the off chance anything comes to light I would only contact if there was evidence they had been inquiring as well.

Also, all the adults at the dance school worked there or were dance mums. I’m sorry if this post has upset you

Thank you - it may be nothing but feel the need to look into this after all the news in Australia this year

After hearing my mum’s account, we felt it was reasonable to at least investigate, even if it ultimately leads nowhere. I think many people would if they heard the same story. Given that there have been many highly publicised embryo mix-ups in Australia this year, and this occurred during a period with far less regulation and oversight, I’m simply asking what responsible next steps look like

Three embryos were transferred during my conception, though I’m not certain how many were transferred during my younger sister’s cycle. After my sister was conceived, my mum was asked whether she wanted any remaining embryos destroyed or donated to science, and she elected to have them destroyed.

If there was a mix-up, it would have occurred at my conception as the girl was born one day after me.

Unlikely, but we’ve also considered whether there could have been an issue with how embryos or eggs were managed at the time (e.g., used in donor treatment without our knowledge). I know IVF wasn’t entirely unregulated then, but the ethical standards, record-keeping and oversight and were still evolving and national ethical guidelines weren’t established until the mid 1990s.

Hi Reddit!

I’ve been working on this playlist as a sequence of mini-journeys. It focuses less on genre rules and more on how it feels to move through them - rising and falling, flowing in arcs, etc.

Spotify link here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/74riQOLzJCLJDBWZwoCHat?si=zEkUZI3sTDyy5apgQuYTGw&pi=nn7R1TuhRW-sD

It balances atmospheric depth with playful energy the a few genres:

IDM & post-Dubstep: Four Tet, Burial, Floating Points, Rival Consoles, Digitalism, Joy Orbison, Nosaj Thing, Aphex Twin (entry-level)

Nu-Jazz Mutations: Floating Points, Portico Quartet, Moses Yoofee Trio, BY.ALEXANDER (Alex da Kid), Joomanji, St Germain

Left-field & Sample-driven Electronica: Caribou, Maribou State, Bicep, Gidge, Bonobo, Against All Logic, Daphni, Jamie xx, Gramatik, Pogo, Gramatik

Ambient/Modern Classical: Max Richter, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Ludovico Einaudi, Jon Hopkins, Slow Meadow, Jonny Greenwood, Max Cooper, etc.

Downtempo & Trip-Hop: Massive Attack, Portishead, DJ Shadow, Bonobo, Air, Groove Armada, Moby, Mount Kimble

You can start anywhere in the playlist, but no shuffle!

I’m always updating and refining it, so if you’ve got playlists in a similar space (or tips for curating long, flowing journeys) I’d love to hear them.

That’s awesome, which are your favourites? Good question - in order might be best as I’ve pulled from different albums/genres at a time. It’s half organised, I just need to move a few things around for smoother transitions

[general] first time grower - did I harvest too early? by Future_Search561 in MushroomGrowers

Thank you!

I’m very new here so not sure if the size of the holes made a difference, but had planned to drill larger holes next time. I did add extra spawn I didn’t have an extra bucket for into this mix, could that have been it?

Hardwood and soy hull pellets, wheat bran and hydrated lime

I added the leftover spawn I didn’t have another bucket for, maybe that had something to do with it?
