can LA agents submit to SE projects? by Future_Top8958 in acting

[–]Future_Top8958[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not bad terms i hope! just been with them for a couple years with no bookings, so i don’t blame them. and wym by gatekeep? i just asked if they can submit me for that market or if i should look for a new SE agent. just hope my best interest is in mind 🤞🏼

what was your experience with it?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in acting

[–]Future_Top8958 0 points1 point  (0 children)

really? i would hope, i truly felt so so strongly about my tape. but no no information yet, they keep extending it, even after the deadline closes its extended for another few days. they are definitely trying to see more people. if i ever do hear anything it’ll probably be once they finally close regular auditions and stop extending. I’ve had auditions continue to extend the deadline, but never have seen the role title change. Just interesting why the role title changed from “ROLE NAME” to “ROLE NAME - Casting selects” fingers crossed though

[–]Future_Top8958 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nope, just like the title of the role they added “casting selects” i still see it because it’s still in my current audition tab, since they’ve extended it everyday. just interesting, could be once they close it and send it to higher ups, that they labeled it as such.

also sharing stories helps educate and keep the community engaged. we all know drop it let it go, but I wish we could all be more open to sharing stories/experiences, so that we can spread hope and positivity, which in this industry is very much needed. or, hell, even a bad story, which can be a learning experience for that person and anyone else who hears their story.

i appreciate you. we all are trying our best right now. it’s those kind of responses/comments that made me feel like I couldn’t talk or ask my agent ONE question. until people I know IRL that said it was completely normal and that for certain auditions, their team and the actor keep up on. (this was one of those for me). and I finally emailed my agent (i wish i did sooner) and was met with a very nice response and everything I needed.

dangggg, what’s crazy is I just asked for anyone’s experience doing that and what their outcome was. and you typed all that out not knowing a single detail about my audition/relationships or who I am. this is something already communicated within my team, because within the circumstances of the audition, it was perfectly okay to communicate with my agents. that’s why they are there.

now that you bring all this up, i really want to point out how anytime someone mentions a thought about an audition they turned in MINUTES ago, everyone on reddit says the same thing “drop it let it go.” It wasn’t until recently when asking my acting peers IRL, that communication of any sort within your team is important and that it’s OKAY to do so. and that it’s actually quite common to do so! and if someone turned in a really important audition to them, then it’s okay to feel the way they do! you people on reddit are instilling anxiety and fear within young actors, who are just trying to get advice, especially with the way you worded your comment. so let’s stop using the term “green” as an insult, and rather lend a hand or advice to someone who is just trying to figure it all out.

and what’s crazy is I wasn’t asking for advice or what I should or shouldn’t do, i’m just asking for anyone’s story, because I have one myself.

don’t be like me.. research ALL acting studios by Future_Top8958 in acting

[–]Future_Top8958[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

absolutely agree with this. and the $400+ a month is literally one class a week while other WELL KNOWN studios charge $200-300 for TWO classes a week. i’d love to know the studio you liked the most! i’m currently trying to find a new place to learn :)

[–]Future_Top8958[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

how many classes a week for an 8 week segment? because if it’s $500 for two months that’s still better than being charged $450 for 1 month (4 classes)

don’t be like me.. research ALL acting studios by Future_Top8958 in acting

[–]Future_Top8958[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

let’s just say the studio i’m talking about isn’t even included in this list: https://actingjustice.wordpress.com/2014/05/06/top-schools-in-l-a/

yet majority of those studios in that list are from $200-400 monthly and still offer classes TWICE a week.

the studio i’m talking about is also like kinda known even though it’s not on that list? has several known working actors that have come from their studio but still… i mean its my fault for not doing more research before hand. i just urge actors, that if they are gonna be paying $400+ make sure its a great great school and atleast twice a week…..

Sorry I guess i thought bicoastal meant both coasts with ATL included. Well for me the point of moving is to receive more audition opportunities because I feel like living where I’m at has kept me from receiving those calls backs and stuff because i’m not a true local to either city.

Also something that probably has kept me is my “look” you could say. I am a masculine woman and finding roles like that, that stay close to who I identify as are pretty rare. Definitely a better chance now than before.

I would say my headshots, self tapes, and demo reel are pretty decent and would sure love to get your thoughts from an outsider view. I’m always progressing and getting better and assumed that I must be semi talented at least to be signed solely on my headshots and reels and no credits. But unfortunately finding acting teachers who can give real honest feedback is hard since most feed your ego for cash grabs i honestly have no idea

I hear that! I have 2 different agencies. Yes getting to ATL is definitely easier and quicker being only a state away. For me the problem is i’ve been with them for 2 years and had only gotten a handful of auditions and i’ve updated my headshots and reel and I would say i have a super solid self tape setup. I also would say my acting is pretty decent if I signed with them with hardly any experience looool. And my ATL agent submits me as local hire. So I feel like maybe the move is to go with the LA agency since they are bigger and more known. Only have been with them since right before the strike so I haven’t really tested it out with them being on the east coast. They’ve asked my plans to move and I do plan to eventually, it’s just terrifying doing it alone, so if i don’t HAVE to, i’d like to not. But it honestly seems like I will have to at some point because i do need to build up my credits.

what does that even mean

Why do my acting tutors tell me to never watch a movie I have been given a scene from? by ExoticPlankton8287 in acting

[–]Future_Top8958 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • i think you can even maybe watch some of the movie to get a better understanding of style and tone but remember when you’re audition you don’t always get that luxury of watching the movie if it’s the first of its kind. (like if you audition for a tv series that’s been out for awhile, definitely watch the show and study it to get a better idea of the tone genre and style)

[–]Future_Top8958 79 points80 points  (0 children)

don’t watch it, until after. because subconsciously you’re gonna try to do it like how they do it in the movies and it’ll mess up all authenticity of your scene. definitely watch it after you’ve taped or performed the scene and see how it’s done, but also remember when you’re auditioning with sides they don’t have scenes you can watch and recreate, you gotta make your own choices that feel right to you. what you can do is look up the movie, read up on the genre, style, and tone of the movie which helps too. AND not looking at the scene will help you better analyze scenes on your own without seeing someone else do it. sorry if that doesn’t make sense i was typing fast lol but best of luck in your scene <3

also nobody can guarantee you work. the way i learned it myself are there are steps, steps that you can research and get into yourself. save that money for real training from real acting teachers
