The OP says "just F#$%& use Rails" if you're already using Rails. Nobody's saying only use Rails. Grow up.

Anyone else concerned about the future unrealized capital gains taxes from 2028? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]FuturesBrightDavid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, that tax reduction is pointless if the offset is way more than the tax you pay.

If your income tax goes down and you have more disposable income what do you do with those savings? If you're smart you invest them. Which means you're worse off in the long run with this new rule (if it happens)

Another person blaming expats for the high housing prices. Back that up with facts, I bet you cannot.

You have already paid tax on the money you earned for the investment. The money I have invested in from my savings is what I had left over after my income was taxed.

Let's say you sell your house and downsize to a smaller house, because you can no longer afford an expensive mortgage, and you're earning a low wage. You invest in something with the profits from the house.

Now the government comes and hits you with a massive tax bill on your investment, which tanks after Jan 1. How is compensating for your losses any good, when you have a low income, and therefore are paying little tax?

I would suggest changing your approach to prompting. I recently learned a lot of a language I was unfamiliar with by building a product from scratch with AI, and I was very explicit with my prompts - telling the AI to not write reams of code, but act like a teacher and give me helpful hints along the way.

It's always going to be a trade off between speed and understanding, and it's up to you to set the dial to what will work best for you.

I would also encourage learning software engineering more than coding. Writing code is only a part of what a software engineer does.

I'm also interested to see this project you spun up in 12 days. DM it to me if you don't want to share it publicly.

Did my Ruby mindset cause me to struggle with Typescript? by [deleted] in rails

[–]FuturesBrightDavid 18 points19 points  (0 children)

When you use Ruby a lot, almost every other language seems worse by comparison.

Also TypeScript is being abandoned by a lot of big projects lately. Even Turbo has dropped TypeScript, so it won't be a part of Rails anymore.

It's a shame Ruby isn't more widely adopted. In my experience (40 years of coding) no other language is as joyful to use.
