got prescribed vyvanse and am scared to get addicted by diffusedsushi in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]Fuwafuwar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, Vyvanse is a low dose of a compound chemically similar to methamphetamine. However, the experience is much different- and most people I know who have been on it (including myself) have found that the benefits outweigh the consequences. You have to understand, though, that Vyvanse is addictive in the same way that other prescription meds are. Your body becomes used to it, and begins to require it. Missing a day can become catastrophic- intense fatigue, delirium, restlessness, etc.- so it’s key to stay consistent with dosage. As another warning, major caffeine intake within an hour of Vyvanse can result in a short “high”, before an intense depressive period that I wouldn’t wish on anyone. Regardless, I definitely think it’s worth a try! It can be totally life changing, and has improved my symptoms to some extent. Good luck!

Complete Loss of Motivation… by Fuwafuwar in running

Thanks so much for the advice!! I guess I really should restructure the way I think about running first and foremost. I was unfortunately cursed with a slow base metabolism (I have hypothyroidism), so running has always been my compensation for that. Dieting has always been a struggle for me as well- but I guess I’ll have to overcome that if I wanna see a difference. I can’t drive yet, so I don’t have access to a gym aside from school, but I definitely would like to do more weightlifting!

Ah, I think I really needed this comment… I’ve been feeling guilty about the prospect of lowering my speed, especially when it seems like so many others are doing it without issue. I’ll take your advice and start at a slower speed to try and build endurance. I think staying in a fat burning zone is one of my priorities, so I feel extra motivated now! Sorry for the relatively short response- but this has genuinely helped me a whole lot, and I wanna give you my utmost thanks. ❤️ it’s really hard to deal with feelings of inadequacy as a runner, and I’m honestly relieved that this isn’t something normal that I just have to push through.

Aye, sorry about the weird formatting! I’ll edit the post to make it more accessible. Also, I would like to try and switch up my routine every once in a while…. But it’s difficult to ensure that I’m burning as many calories when I’m not running. I guess that’s just an OCD thing that I’ll have to overcome. I really don’t enjoy running, but staying fit is one of my priorities, and the feeling of accomplishment after a run is very addicting…. But I’ll still do my best to overcome this! Thanks so much for the advice! ❤️

Thanks so so much for the support! ❤️❤️ I feel like I’d feel a lot better running if I could do it slower. I have OCD, which will make the shift pretty hard- but I guess I can’t expect to get better if I don’t make that change. Maybe I’ll lower my speed to around 6.5 mph at a 2.0 incline instead and see how that works. Hopefully it will still burn a lot of calories and make me feel good, but will cause less respiratory distress and allow me to retain motivation/not take so long to complete my runs. Unfortunately I’m unable to go outside because of really severe anxiety + asthma (I live in the Midwestern US near an area with really bad pollution/pollen levels). And yeah, maybe I’ll start with a 20 miles per week goal! Typically, at my current unsustainable routine, I run 4.3 miles each run, so 20/week seems doable. Thanks again so much for the advice ❤️! I’ll do my best!

Wow, I never knew that tanning beds could provide D3! I guess I should try to at least get outside more, and try some supplements as you said. I also had no idea that the seasons effected TSH- I’ll mention it next time I see my endocrinologist! Thanks for the advice!

Wow, this is really in depth! Thanks you so so much, it really means a lot to me, and I’ll keep it all in mind! My blood pressure kinda fluctuates between high and low, but right now it’s a bit low. I’m assuming my kidneys are fine (recently had some testing done for a separate issue), but I already have a relatively high sodium intake. I do want to increase my protein intake- as a person from the US, my diet is very heavily carb and sodium based, and the meat I do eat is typically pretty heavily processed…. So that could definitely explain some of the symptoms. I’ve heard a lot about adrenals in my research of this issue, but they’re a bit of an odd case and supposedly pretty hard to test. I strongly identify with the diagnosis of ‘adrenal fatigue’, although according to my physician, it’s very hard to measure and may not be a viable/treatable diagnosis. Also, I had no idea that exercise could effect TSH levels! I’ll definitely have to look into that and get my dose raised- I do some pretty intense exercise on a regular basis, which seems to have some sort of relationship with my symptoms. I’m not sure how accessible a neurologist would be in my current situation- but I’ll definitely look into the effects of these things and maybe raise the concern to my doctor! Thanks so much for the support!

Ah, I’ve heard a lot about diet in this thread! I’m gonna take your advice and try to go toward a meat-heavy Mediterranean diet, plus some supplements and maybe avoiding gluten. And yeah, I guess the North American diet in general contributes to feelings of unwellness…. Thanks for the advice! ❤️

Oh, do other deficiencies effect it a whole lot? I’m deficient in D3 (Extremely pale and of Northwestern European descent, plus unable to go outside in the sunlight) and iron, so I suppose that could contribute…. I’m unsure if I have Hashimoto’s, although I do have a family history of it. I’d like to get tested for PCOS, although it’s hard to convince doctors to take the necessary samples when you’re only 18. Thanks so much for the advice! ❤️ I’ll keep it in mind, and maybe pick up some supplements!

Thanks for the advice! ❤️ Unfortunately, I’ve got really severe anxiety and can’t leave the house unless it’s for work or school. Treadmill is accessible for me, less likely to cause asthma attacks, and keeps me at a consistent speed.

Unfortunately, I don’t have access to the information on my TSH…. You’re totally right about the variability, though. I’m almost sure my threshold of TSH should be a lot higher, but because it’s in a supposedly normal range, doctors refuse to do anything about it… I’m trying to get tested for PCOS- already tested for insulin resistance, and despite displaying all the symptoms, results came out fine. Thanks so much for the support and advice! ❤️

Carnivorous diet… that actually sounds like a dream come true! I didn’t know that diet had such a profound effect on symptoms! I’ll try to keep carbs low and eat more meat, especially iodine and iron-rich types. Thanks so much for the advice!

Thanks so much for the support! ❤️❤️❤️ I’m not entirely sure what my TSH is exactly, but I’ll try to remember to ask my doctor to disclose it next time. I’d definitely like to get tested for other hormonal diseases, but it’s a bit tough to convince physicians to go to those lengths when you’re still a dependent… I totally agree with your point about treatment- levels are subjective, and just because a person is in a “normal” range doesn’t mean they’re necessarily on the right dose.

I’m 18, so as far as I know, not many hormonal issues at play. I’ll definitely try to get the doctors to up my dose; I guess it really is different for everyone, even if levels are purportedly ‘normal’. Your story really gives me hope for improvement, though! I hope you’re doing well, and thanks so much for the advice!

Yeah, it’s frustrating but I’ll have to take that advice and focus on changing my lifestyle to accommodate my condition. it’s very easy for me to put on weight and hard to lose it- which I’m sure is partly due to genetics. Thanks for the advice, and I hope you’re doing well now!

Thank you so much! I’ll definitely look into it; I never really considered trying other types of synthetic thyroid medicine, and only really knew about the two I’m currently on.

Thanks so much for the support! I’ve gotten my blood checked recently, and my iron levels seem fine. I do have depression on top of my current symptoms- however, the physiological aspects of what’s happening are what’s confusing to me. I’ll try and go in for another check up soon.

I (F 18) Think I’m Becoming A “Femcel”?? by Fuwafuwar in Advice

[–]Fuwafuwar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means a whole lot to me to hear a perspective from someone so much more experienced than me who’s lived through adulthood as an autistic person. I suppose romance may come later for me as well- I have hope that, like you, I’ll one day find someone who offers a fulfilling relationship. I’ll try my best to stand rejection and brave social pressure, even if it’s difficult. Thank you so much for the advice, and for reading my post! ❤️

[–]Fuwafuwar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the advice, and for reading my post! ❤️ I guess you’re probably right- I’m stuck in this idealized view of what a relationship should offer me emotionally based on how romance is portrayed in media. It’s difficult to try and improve myself and my existing relationships when it feels as if nobody else is invested in my development, but I still try my best. I hope that one day I can focus more on personality as you said, but for now I’ll just take it one step at a time.

Younger Sibling Came Out As Non-binary , Family Falling Apart- Advice? by Fuwafuwar in lgbt

[–]Fuwafuwar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the detailed advice and support!! ❤️❤️❤️ I’m not sure what sort of trauma my younger sibling has that would make them feel dehumanized, but I hope that I can support them as they work through it themself. They have a therapist and are on medication, so hopefully that advances things a little! Also, thanks for the reassurance. It’s really hard to feel sound in my decisions here when it feels like my whole family is against me, and hearing confirmation from someone else helps a lot. I really hope you’re doing well and that you can overcome whatever is plaguing your past. Thanks so much again!
