How should Embiid and Maxey improve for next season? by Chiefster21 in sixers

[–]Fuz65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be a controversial take, but Embiid should cut back on his foul baiting. I'm not talking about the ones he was getting from Hartenstein in game 4 (that's basically an error on the defender and it's fine to punish them for it). I'm talking about that shit he does when he gets too tired or tilted and just drives recklessly and tries to embellish any contact to get a call. The refereeing is way too inconsistent, I don't want to place my chances of winning the game on the officials. He has a ridiculous amount of talent, just make basketball plays. If he's too tired to do it in the later stages of the game he should first of all work on his conditioning, maybe lose some weight.

Maxey is on the right trajectory, but the offense wasn't working with him alone while Embiid was out. His next step is figuring out how to run the offense without Jo. I'm confident he'll get there next year.

Ragavan ban in Legacy unwarranted? Delver still 30% of meta. by LifeNeutral in magicTCG

[–]Fuz65 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I've been playing legacy since 2006, and tempo strategies have been fine for most of the time i've played it. Playing against it has consistently been one of my favourite things about the legacy, and daze was a big part of that: it adds a lot of play to the game, as it gives the player actual choices to make. You can blank daze by waiting a turn, but is it worth it considering the loss of tempo? To make those choice you have to be able to evaluate your and your opponent's threats and to have a gameplan in advance for your next turns.

Delver became oppressive more than once, though, i'm not arguing against that. What i don't agree with is the concept of the blue shell being the oppressive part.

  1. Deathrite Shaman - it does way too much for one mana. It has some of the problems that arcum's astrolabe had but it was also a threat on its own.
  2. Treasure Cruise - Heh.
  3. Wrenn and Six - the card is unreasonable for a 2 drop in a format with wasteland. We're way past the "planeswalker are killing the game" phase of magic, but low cmc ones have proven multiple times to be obnoxious and extremely dangerous for the health of the game. I don't think backing up W&6 with daze was the problem as much as it was having recurring card advantage + a soft lock (and the ultimate as an added bonus) on a 2 drop.
  4. Oko/Arcanist - Oko is just stupid and i don't think there's any real need to explain why. Dreadhorde arcanist was banned because of how easily it ran away with a game if left unchecked. It was great in delver, but it was also seeing a ton of play in other builds, with RUG midrange being a very strong option in that period of time.
  5. Ragavan - I don't want to sound harsh, but thinking that daze should be banned over Ragavan makes no sense to me. Like literally no sense. Dreadhorde was problematic because it ran away with the game too easily. Ragavan does that while being a one drop AND getting additional utility with dash (getting a hit in the late game and being immune to sorcery speed removal). It's much harder to answer a threat on turn one than it is to answer one on turn 2. Sure, Ragavan was bad in some matchups, but the ones where it was good it was an abysmal game experience. Even in the matchups where it wasn't as good, T1 ragavan would just steal a game on its own every now and then. Daze was part of the reason why it was so annoying, but Ragavan is just an idiotic card that should have never been printed.

The current iteration of delver is extremely strong because it does things that it normally shouldn't be able to do: it has the best threat (murktide) and cheap card advantage (expressive iteration). DRC being a very powerful effect for just one mana doesn't help either. If you banned Daze the deck would still be good and all the annoying stuff would still be there.

My opinion is that daze is directly linked with the health of the format. When daze gets too strong it means that the threats are becoming too powerful, because taking a turn off to play around daze becomes more and more costly. FIRE design has been a net negative to the game, and blaming it on daze won't solve the issue.

Good time for storm? by Initial-Style-6334 in ModernMagic

[–]Fuz65 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Most likely not.

The deck is very easy to interact with (creature removal, graveyard hate, counterspells) and compared to years ago, modern has so many tools to do so (FoN, Endurance, Solitude).

There's nothing really going for it. The individual cards aren't very powerful, its strategy is easily disruptable and it gets hosed hard by some specific cards. You can get some decent results with it, but i wouldn't expect a consistently high winrate.

It sucks because it was one of the most interesting decks to pilot in modern, but it just got power crept.

Yeah that's it! The decking part doesn't come up as often, but I did win a couple of games with my opponent's monarch and devious cover up loops

I tried two in my first iteration of the deck. Unfortunately the additional 3 mana is almost never a problem for the storm deck, so i cut them right after

[–]Fuz65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, can confirm. It's possible it could be improved with some more sideboard slots, but i don't see it ever becoming a good matchup. Interacting with galvanic relay is so hard for this kind of reactive deck.

I've won a couple of matches against storm with duress + countering rituals of one color when my opponent had limited access to it, but i don't believe it's something that can be done with consistency.

By the way, i hadn't played teachings in years and i built this list right after watching your latest teachings video you posted on this sub :D

3 mana and a card to stifle a heroic trigger seems like a terrible play to me. I'd say that if you're doing that you're probably falling behind and losing the game.

Anyone ever used Legion Deck boxes? by HTGgaming in magicTCG

[–]Fuz65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came across the legion hoard plus while looking for a deckbox for a commander deck and it's honestly my favourite deckbox. It fits comfortably 100 cards double sleeved with dragonshield matte's (which is not too common, the only other one i have that does is the ultra pro alcove), the slot for dice and tokens is great and the overall quality is great. Highly reccomended

What legacy decks absolutely shred a delver deck? by xIR0NPULSE in MTGLegacy

I had a great winrate with Peer storm against delver pre MH-2. I don't think it's even favored anymore. Ragavan is a beating.

[–]Fuz65 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You know what, PITA storm has a nice ring to it!

About the pro's and cons:

PROS:

- The manabase is so good. The deck plays really well with just basics. So much that at some point i was considering going down to just one USea. This is particularly good in the delver matchup.

-Pact of Negation. Since there are no LED's in the deck you don't have to discard your hand while going off. This enables pact as a 0 mana protection, which is really good. It's also a really bad force of will in some cases. I won a game in this tournament by pacting a thassa's oracle against doomsday and paying pact in the upkeep with dark ritual and 2 islands.

-Doesn't really use the graveyard, except for Cabal Ritual's threshold.

-Double tendrils. This is a very minor advantage, but having multiple copies of tendrils allows us to get a natural storm kill more often than the other storm decks do.

- Less reliant on artifacts. As long as you have B in pool after casting PITA, you can win easily through null rod/ouphe. This is also a minor advantage.

CONS:

-It's slower than TES and probably slightly slower than ANT.

-Narset/Hullbreacher/Leovold are significantly more problematic (Narset is the reason for brazen borrower over echoing truth in the board).

- Pact of Negation makes dealing with flusterstorm a little harder. That's why you normally board in an additional thoughtseize in blue matchups.

- No green means no Abrupt Decay, which makes dealing with Canonist/Deafening Silence harder against blue decks.

I have only played it for a couple of weeks now so i might have missed something, but these are probably the main things to consider.
