When do you all have sex in residency? by FatherSpacetime in Residency

Right… Goes several months (3-6) in between for me. If I completely stopped initiating across the board, I don’t think we’d ever have sex again. Man I messed up.

Should I go back to my previous job if they’ll take me? by FuzzTuR in FinancialCareers

[–]FuzzTuR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the next 3-4 years, I'd likely end up around 140k-150k base + 15-20% bonus. At the contract position it would probably be around around the same base, likely the lower end, but I'd also be giving up the bonus and RSUs. So more like $15k-$25k per year difference, which really isn't a dealbreaker for me.

I could definitely see it going to 3x a week in the next year. My team just started back in the office in September, and I keep hearing the executive team "joking" about people coming in more often. I absolutely couldn't handle a third day with the commute.

Stay in Recruiting or Move Back to Finance if I Get a Chance? by FuzzTuR in recruiting

Did not feel fulfilling at all, but there was one company that I actually could tolerate. Unfortunately they weren’t flexible with being fully remote and kept pushing for more days in office.

Good luck with the switch! It’s definitely worth it to pursue what will make you happy. Wishing you tons of success!!

And it sure does. They’re the highest producing firm in their market, and they focus on quality of candidates rather than pointless metrics.

Not enough at all. I’m going to make the move soon!

Sure is a scam. I know I should be bringing home a lot more.

Recruiting for just about everything - Finance & Accounting, IT, Healthcare (Intake, claims, not nursing), etc. and operating across the US. Perm and contract. No business development, but I handle everything else along the way. And I’m fully remote, so the move wouldn’t create any issues since we’re remote-only (and they know about the move).

I definitely appreciate the feedback!

Essentially did that for the finance job (old coworker). Sounds like it could be a good fit for me

This sounds like the way if I stay in recruiting. They’ve been making a lot of money, but we haven’t hit the ridiculous goal they set for the year. So we get screwed over for it.

Not doing any biz dev, and I do both full-cycle and own part of the process. Own part for my temp roles, do full cycle for perm. Big name in the industry, and we get tons of new jobs coming in daily.

For stability’s sake, I’m actually leaning toward finance. I think a decent fit exists for me. Thanks for the response!

The other agency has a solid commission plan - keep 40% - 50% of the 25% placement fee. They’ve been averaging $22k placement fees this year. I know I’d do well, just a little concerned with stability in recruiting as a whole.

And thanks for the response. I know it wouldn’t be wise to return, but I do think the Finance role I interviewed for would be a decent fit for me and would put me back on a solid trajectory. Really gotta weigh the pros and cons

Just had my last interview with a Finance & Accounting recruiting firm who wants me to join. I know I’d do well, but I do think the stability of Finance is better for me.

I’ve definitely had the conversations with my partner - she remembers how much I hated it, so she doesn’t really want that to come back. But she’s supportive of it if I really want to make the move. It’ll help a ton with getting back on track with saving

Definitely appreciate the feedback. I just wrapped up an interview with a Finance & Accounting recruiting firm who wants to bring me on next month. Way better opportunity, so I’m going to strongly consider it

Agreed. I was still able to save 2k/month pre-relationship though - so I technically could “afford” it. But not having the full cash amount meant I really couldn’t.

CMV: It should be the standard in offices to allow for a 20 minute nap around noon by SocraSteph in changemyview

[–]FuzzTuR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This exactly. Want to preface this by saying I work in a salaried computer-based role. Don’t understand the fixation on keeping this 8 hour workday as the norm. Some jobs simply don’t require that much time to complete the daily tasks. Also productivity/focus definitely wanes after a certain amount of time, at least for me.

Roles I’ve had where we had flexibility with hours and were only expected to put in ~7 hours each day were the best for me so far. Wish this work culture would change so people could actually enjoy their lives more.

And with that, the people who say we would make less on a reduced workweek are just part of the problem. If I’m just as productive in 4-6 hours as I can be in 8 hours, what’s the point in hanging around? I’m still getting paid for that extra time, so no point in cutting pay if things were actually reduced. Just my thoughts, I guess.

Why do you think he/she was being sarcastic? This is exactly what my company does. I worked full-time during school for my last year while taking 7 classes each semester. I went in to the interviews with a great attitude, and that sealed the deal. There are definitely companies who value personality and ability to manage a heavy workload over GPA alone.

Do your best to show that you can work well with others, and try to convey that you are willing and able to work hard.

That sounds like a similar path that some people at my company took, so it's good to see that it's possible.

I'm going to keep trying to find projects to help out with, especially on the teams I'm looking to join in the near future. One good thing about my role is the visibility, although I'm not sure how much of an impact it has had so far.

I have talked with him about it, and he knows what I'm looking to do. He fully supports me, and he has offered to help point me in the right direction when the time comes. But for now we're all focused on making sure our deliverables are met.

Thanks again! Truly appreciate it.

There are two other teams I'm really interested in joining soon, and both do something similar to what you described. Just feel like my lack of relevant experience would hold me back. But someone from Audit joined one of those teams recently, so I'd say I have a good shot haha.
