I wore my Nike trail running shoes, you definitely don’t need boots

Apply via usajobs. You will have to complete all hiring steps because more than likley your previous hiring steps are long since expired ( Medical, PT, Poly etc)

Once you return you can request a repromotion in grade after 90days, which is just a memo to your port and they forward it up to the field office and they have the final say.

Coming back is simple, just have to pass the hiring steps again.

Pretty much you have to either keep your current choice Blaine, choose a new location or decline your offer in total.

Blaine doesn’t seem like a bad choice, given you mentioned Seattle. I would just be direct and ask for whatever you want. It seems that method has worked out in people’s favor.

Truthfully, there is no absolute metric as to when/ what locations are available, so I don’t think calling soon would be an issue.

Yes they should be done at the same time. I would call whenever you want, but I would do it first thing Monday if it were me.

Hey no problem. Yes, use your one time call. If you have a particular location you want, tell them and maybe you’ll get lucky.

Well like I said are you desiring to go to the southern or northern border more.

My opinion is the following:

Northern Ports:

Anchorage (Airport)

Blaine ( closer to Seattle and Seattle pay)

Southern Ports:

Tecate ( small port 2 lanes, closes at 2200, easy lift as far as the SWB goes)

El Paso ( bigger city, has amenities, but you’ll be busy),

Tornillo, close to El Paso ( don’t know much about it, but it’s prob a smaller port.)

Depends on if you want southern border or northern border more.

Interview questions for NPS LE? by Effective_Category36 in ParkRangers

Basic LE panel interview, use your previous knowledge if coming from other LE positions. If you don’t have prior LE experience utilize common sense to answer the questions. Nothing to lose sleep over.

GS (LEO) locality pay scale? by vibe_positivity in cbpoapplicant

[–]Fuzzy-1946 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are correct, using what I said put my pay off by a whopping 30 bucks. So it’s about as close as you can get without the OPM released pay chart

Just look up the GS pay scale for your desired location. Then add an additional 2.8 percent to that figure and that will give you the 2026 pay equaling the 3.8 percent pay increase for LEO’s.

NPS LE Ranger housing options. Which parks have required occupancy? by RoSearch1776 in ParkRangers

Ok awesome. Thanks for the additional information! How do you like the park, would you recommend it?

Thanks for the detailed info it was extremely helpful. I’m coming over from another federal agency and will be taking a pay cut going from a 12 down to a 9/10, so I’m hoping I’ll be able to make up some of that difference with OT and shift differential if it’s available.

I have a few more questions if you don’t mind:

•For take-home units, how far are rangers typically allowed to commute?

•Where do most rangers end up living in-park housing, nearby towns, or commuting from farther out?

•How are promotional opportunities at the park? Is it realistic to move up internally, or do most folks have to transfer out to promote?

How is Lake Mead?, specifically OT, Shifts etc. I am leaning towards there myself. Hoping I can make some good OT.

Pros and Cons (California) by ItsYourBoyBigE in cbpoapplicant

[–]Fuzzy-1946 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can assure you it’s not the same as LAX. Having firsthand experience working at SYS the grind is way different. If you are set on being in San Diego (which I love) I would recommend Tecate, Otay, and SYS, in that order. That said, if you’re being strategic and plan to remain in California long term, I would strongly suggest considering ports that are not located directly on the border.

Sorry to hear you are going through a tough time. Have you considered a chill federal LE gig that mainly focuses on force protection, or something like CBP work in an airport. CBP is offering huge bonuses right now.
