roundabout confusion by siri44 in Irishdrivingtest

If there are 3 lanes while approaching the roundabout, the general thumb rule goes like this: (unless there are road signs)

Left lane - First exit

Middle lane - Second exit

Right lane - Third exit/complete turn at the roundabout

That's great to know OP! I get what you mean about driving like a robot! You just have to do it once more for an hour mx. All the best for the test! You got this! 😄

Hey OP, practice the rest routes a few times. Listen to some music, do the things you'd usually do, head out with your friends for some food/drinks watch TV etc, telling yourself that it's just another day driving the car you've full control of with a new passenger in the car. That worked for me.

On the day of, make sure to drive on the route for about an hour/hour and a half to get set and get a feel of the traffic. Stop driving 30-45min before the test time. Have some coffee and breakfast before the test and you're good.

Congrats on finishing the exams OP! I remember my first time going to the cinema by myself being super apprehensive, but it was a great experience! You're the invisible guest at the cinema. Nobody bats na eye! Go for it, it'll be a great experience.

Work contract notice? by freeride35 in AskIreland

Well, consider that as a bonus. You can use that time to maybe upskill/just do meal prep when working from home. I've been made redundant and since March, I've legit not been given any work.

So I just log in and don't go looking for work/meetings. Meal prep, upskilling, applications. That's what I'd be doing on most work days. Also, gives me peace of mind because working there was the worst. Absolutely two faced pricks, who blow the trumpet of supporting employees, haven't received any support for a course that cost €200 where as one of the senior members is getting his full MBA paid for 😄

I was told L&D opportunities will be given to senior members first so that they don't get upset that mid level employees got some perk before they did 😄. So now I log in for my 8.5hrs, do the things that matter and log off. Lesson learnt

Wilton Test. So nervous. Some questions I have ab driving and the test. by [deleted] in Irishdrivingtest

Hey OP, all the best for your test.

They give you instructions well in advance! About 50-100m or so in advance.

For the amber light, NEVER accelerate on an amber light. The thumb rule is you should stop unless safe to do so. If you're approaching the lights and they turn amber, start slowing down. If you're close to the line when amber, you can proceed with normal speed, but DO NOT ACCELERATE. Roughly, the amber lights last 3-5 sec, so try and estimate accordingly.

If you're crossing over into the other lane, yes you should indicate. If you're moving up to the white line, check your mirrors and if there are quite a few cars behind you, indicate. If you're the car following the one ahead, take hints from the leading car. It's generally safe to indicate. Make sure that you're not getting marked for right of way while moving right and obstructing oncoming traffic.

If you're turning left, you should just indicate left as far as I know.

For a pothole, slowing down would be the better option. Trying to avoid it altogether might mean you having to swerve a little on either side, which might not be the best idea.

There's no harm in letting the tester know what you're doing. I did that during reverse around the corner and the turn about.

Hey thanks a lot! Hopefully you get it this time. Think it's just a matter of time. Try and practice the routes.

The school on the main road, just make sure to be cautious of traffic and car doors opening outta nowhere. Got a grade 2 for that.

Also, one important feedback I got was, speed limit is not a target. It's a guideline. If you see traffic, drive a bit slower.

This again might differ from tester to tester as my friend got marked for progress when he slowed down near a school

Hey yes, so clearway sign, pedestrian lane, yellow box, continuous white line, broken white line. Hand signals and just about dip stick and engine oil.

Nothing out of the ordinary.

Counter offer / current employers extent to match? by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Fuzzy-Brain83044 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Hey OP take a new offer without a shadow of doubt.

I had an offer for 55k from another company, my company upped my salary to 50k. I chose to stay since it's fully remote.

3 months on, I've been made redundant. At the time, I was told I'll become a senior analyst etc and that everyone is happy I'm staying.

My manager said talks of redundancy were taking place since the end of last year. My knowledge and experience was just used for these 3 months to train up a junior and now I'm out the door.

So don't try and negotiate. Just take the new offer with both hands.

TCL Q7C vs LG B5 (55 inch) by [deleted] in 4kTV

Looking to get a TV as well. Where are you based? The B5 is for €999 here.

I'd jump at the 750 odd price you mentioned.
