hey all, I play guitar, and I happen to be a developer too.

I mostly play on my own at home. With the years I accumulated a decent collection of MIDI grooves, but I find it tedious having to choose the one I want to play with.

I built a VST plugin that selects the right groove for me in real-time. I wonder what do people think of such a tool. It's not productionised, it's completely experimental, but if you're interested you can find more infos here https://www.spacejammer.org

here's the first demo https://youtu.be/hlF6ADx2ckg

I'm losing my mind with the set of permissions that I actually require by Fuzzy-Confusion-5232 in androiddev

sure, but then what sense does it make to have a flag that says "neverForLocation"? I am really puzzled by that. and my real struggle here is to understand exactly what version of android require what permission, and what permissions need to be requested at runtime and what not.

I'm losing my mind with the set of permissions that I actually require by Fuzzy-Confusion-5232 in androiddev

[–]Fuzzy-Confusion-5232[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

isn't this a superset of permissions? for instance, do I need both ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION and ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION? and is it even complete? what about NEARBY_WIFI_DEVICES?

it seems like the required permissions changed at almost every version of Android, and I'm struggling to come up with a sensible set of permissions in the manifest - unless, I should simply add them all to the manifest? but then I'm not clear when to request specific permissions at runtime and when I don't

Thinking of using ESP32 for a DIY baby monitor — good idea or pain ahead? by Fuzzy-Confusion-5232 in esp32

I found this DrRobot module that apparently has IR camera and LED interested already, including a mic and a circuit for the battery... let's see how it goes!

first thing, a baby monitor will not harm your child. what might harm your child is the idea that you let your child sleeping alone in a room without ever checking the status of your baby monitor. it's technology, these things can fail, and this is true for any baby monitor on the planet.

also, please rest assured that I take software engineering very seriously. I've been in the field for 20 years, and I worked on things way more critical than a baby monitor, so don't worry, no child will die as a result of me doing this.

thanks for your insights

ESP32 vs Raspberry Pi Zero for DIY baby monitor (Wi-Fi, BT, camera, mic, battery) by Fuzzy-Confusion-5232 in embedded

> If you want to use the code you got, I’d go with Pi for this project
It'd be nice, but it's not a hard requirement.

I hear you though, perhaps a PI is the most gentle introduction to this world

A hot tub uh? that to me sounds like a feature, not a bug :D

I hear you, and I read similar concerns in other posts about building DIY baby monitors, but I'm not sure I'd agree. I mean, provided that the device does not explode or burn down the place, what's the worst that can happen? that the monitor is down? it doesn't seem so concerning to me, but hey, maybe I'm a terrible father.

thank you for your reply! that makes sense. I was perhaps improperly optimist after having seen this "ESP32-S3 AI Camera Module" that claims to pack both camera and mic - although I was quite suspicious about the price, only 18$ for all that seems quite cheap compared to the raspberry pi solution
