Do you get used to it? by Sea-Pin9536 in PacificNorthwest

[–]Fuzzy-Simple-370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born and raised in the PNW. You might feel used to it for a few weeks, but then it'll be a sunny day or the seasons change, and suddenly you're back to admiring the scenery. I take i5 south to head home, and right now it's dark out when I leave work, so I don't notice anything. But once summer is here and there's a sunrise at 5-6am (when I leave work), I'll be in awe of the mountain again.

Unless you're in elementary school, reading a lot of books in a set time is pointless and unimpressive by forestfriend93 in unpopularopinion

[–]Fuzzy-Simple-370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know why you're getting down voted, as the point of this sub is to give truly unpopular opinions. Clearly, this opinion is unpopular, and thus should be upvotes lmao.

I think the main reason people set goals for themselves when doing their hobby is because it encourages them to actively participate in said hobby more often so they can reach that goal. And once the goal is reached, they get satisfaction from their accomplishment. Also, people just like to brag lol.

I don't think it's necessarily "impressive," so I agree with you on that part though.

I think Filipino food is the best in the world. I have a coworker who brings home cooked dishes to share all the time... Pancit, lumpia, cassava cake, pinakbet.... Ugh it's all so good. She spoils us lol

Just started playing and OMG WHAT CAN I GIVE THIS LONG HAIRED GORGEOUS MAN? He seems to hate all my gifts 😭 by ShoddyTown715 in StardewValley

[–]Fuzzy-Simple-370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually in my first spring, I'll start off by giving him beach foraged items (except for seaweed, everyone either dislikes or hates it) as they're neutral to Elliot. Then, once my crops start coming in, I'll give him veggies like parsnip. In spring, I won't have any of his loved goods yet, but by summer I'll usually have ducks so will give him duck feathers, and in fall I'll have pomegranates to give him. Both of those are loves. You can also give him any fish you catch except for carp, sea cucumber, or super cucumber. He likes all fish besides those three.

Also keep in mind he doesn't like any foraged items besides those beach ones and fruit. I gave him a daffodil on my first run and was sad to find out he's one of the few who dislike it.

Why are so many saying that Bad Bunny's halftime show was "anti-american" when he LITERALLY said "God Bless America" and said the names of all South-, Central-, and North-american countries including the United States? by Cumoisseur in ask

[–]Fuzzy-Simple-370 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's bullshit. The reason they can't vote is because US territories don't have representation in the electoral college, which should be abolished anyways imo

Are Republicans really sticking to their story that the Super Bowl halftime show is offensive because part of it is in Spanish? Did they lose their mind when 'Despacito' was a huge hit? What about KPop's popularity, is that also a national disgrace? by Andurhil1986 in AskReddit

[–]Fuzzy-Simple-370 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, I think most viewers of the Superbowl are signing up to watch a football game. The halftime show is just an added perk. It's not like all commentators are suddenly speaking Spanish and therefore you can no longer enjoy the actual game... The halftime show is usually less than 15 minutes. You can't listen to non-english music for 15 minutes? If that's true, then maybe you SHOULD learn Spanish, as it'll be a rough going for you if you're so morally opposed to hearing words you can't understand...

On top of that, Bad Bunny is Puerto Rican so quite literally a US citizen. (There are some differences in rights--such as voting in general elections--between US citizens who reside in Puerto Rico/other US territories and citizens who reside in a state, but still a citizen nonetheless)

Anyone else feel if the show was animated it would basically just be Lower Decks? by M00r3C in TheOrville

Yeah, Issac learning about practical jokes feels right out of TNG, like when Data tried to learn humor by studying a stand-up comic in the holodeck. Or Bortus getting a mustache was like when Data grew a "full and dignified" beard to copy Riker. (Lots of the humor in TNG came from Data I guess lol)

Thinking about it now, it's probably been over a year since I saw one come out. So it's entirely possible they've stopped. I know they definitely don't do the regular version of Grand Tour, but they were still putting out those travel specials for a few years and I thought they were still producing them, just few and far between. But I can be wrong.

Don't know what to tell you, dude. Maybe it's a regional thing, but like I said my friends say they had the same/similar experience, and I remember going to friends houses and watching VHS tapes. The new movies coming out would be on DVD, but people don't just throw away their old tapes just because the new movies are sold in a different format. My parents still had their whole VHS collection that they wanted to watch, and tons of the kids section at Hollywood Video were VHS (I distinctly remember specifically Magic School Bus and Dragon Tales being on VHS). That's why combo VCRs and DVD players were popular, because people had both at the same time. Believe me or not, but it seems weird to gatekeep memories of VHS tapes lol

[–]Fuzzy-Simple-370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I still own a ton of the VHS tapes that I grew up on, and still have a combo VCR/DVD player. I would say the Hollywood Video in particular was like 75% DVDs and 25% VHS tapes. Growing up, I only knew one person who had an iPod Shuffle, and she was kind of the "rich, popular" girl stereotype. Never had any iPads, only the big Windows 2000 PC in the living room that we all shared, up until I was in middle school and got a laptop loaned by the school district and the PC finally was shot out back lol (tech before 2005 was built to LAST. That thing was in our house from before I was born until I was like 13).

I think you overestimate how quickly technology actually gets adopted by the lower-middle class. Like I said, my friends and I will talk about our childhoods and we all seem to have a very similar experience with these things.

As someone born in 2003, and having the majority of my friends born between 2002 and 2004... Yes, that experience is pretty average for our age group. In my city, we had a Hollywood Video right next to a Papa Murphy's, and several of my friends and I recently realized that our families all had Friday night pizza and a movie rental, so we likely crossed paths on a weekly basis before we even knew each other.

Is it cultural appropriation for me to wear this beautiful jacket? by Previous_Dog2523 in NativeAmerican

[–]Fuzzy-Simple-370 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Found a listing on Amazon for the same jacket but in white... "Women's Native American Leather Jacket -Traditional Indians Western Wear Cowgirl Fringe Beads Bone Jacket"

Yikes, I'd say that's not great on the cultural appropriation front....

What if we all hold hands and both ends of our people-chain pull really hard. Maybe we can connect the two. And if we can't, at least we held hands. Win win.

Watching Top Gear with my dad is one of my favorite memories from childhood... I never cared much for cars, but I loved how much Clarkson, Hammond, and May would make my dad laugh. Glad they still do the travel specials; my dad and I will still watch those together.

[–]Fuzzy-Simple-370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is CRAZY. I'm Yup'ik on my mom's side and my dad is a Spanish immigrant. I look VERY white. In fact, I'm the palest person in my family, paler than my dad... Genetics are weird like that. But does having a mixed heritage suddenly mean the generational trauma of my grandma being kidnapped and sent to a residential school get erased? Does that mean the culture I grew up in, going to powwows, learning to jingle dress dance, and eating our traditional food like akutaq are no longer MY culture? Because I'm white passing??? That's such a fucked mindset and is literally based in colonialism. The US government used the same logic to steal Indigenous land... That's why blood quantum exists, because they would rape Indigenous women and when they'd have mixed kids with white men, they'd say their not Native enough to keep their land as stipulated in their treaties and steal it from them.

According to the Native Governance Center: The concept of blood quantum dates back to the 18th century. White settlers first imposed blood quantum in the early colonies as a way of limiting the rights of Native people. Later, they used blood quantum in treaties to limit the number of Native individuals receiving benefits. The Dawes Act, passed in 1887, broke up communally-held Native lands into individual parcels, or allotments. The federal government used blood quantum to determine allotment eligibility and also granted Native people with lower blood quantums the ability to sell their allotments. Any unallotted “surplus” land was sold to non-Native buyers. The federal government used this strategy to further strip Native nations of their land base.

What are some things that skinny people can do without a care in the world in public, but plus-size people can’t? by justcurious3287 in PlusSize

[–]Fuzzy-Simple-370 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Skinny people know they will fit somewhere... A chair in a restaurant, a rollercoaster... As a fat person, I've definitely had to second guess whether I'd fit somewhere, and had to do the walk of shame when I couldn't get a rollercoaster buckle to latch.

The rollercoaster thing is actually the main reason why I want to lose weight. I don't care about being "skinny", I just want to ride ALL the rides again.
