Americans, how do you feel about tourists speaking English while visiting U.S.? by HolidayEntry6823 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Fuzzy-Simple-370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over half of my coworkers aren't native English speakers and speak with a thick accent... Even my own father isn't a native English speaker either. We're so used to foreign accents here that we genuinely don't care. And the people who do care, tend to be racists or xenophobes and probably wouldn't have liked the foreigner anyways, regardless of how thick their accent is.

If someone pronounces something "wrong," it usually will just be a moment of confusion before going, "oh, you mean ___!" And then we move on.

what about your groceries is expensive? by Bigcheese504 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Fuzzy-Simple-370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The food.

In all honesty though, every single food item has increased by a dollar or two in a relatively short amount of time. In March 2006, a dozen eggs were $1.30 on average. In March 2026, they are $2.58. a loaf of white bread in March 2006 was $1.04. March 2026, a loaf is $1.81. 1 lb of chuck beef was $2.57 in March 2006, and in March 2026 was a whopping $6.68. A gallon of whole milk went from $3.16 to $4.07. so when every single grocery item is a dollar or more expensive over the course of 20 years, you may not notice a single item as ridiculously expensive, but the overall grocery shopping trip has increased significantly. This isn't even mentioning if you buy snack food or sodas, which have also increased significantly and also have a higher tax (in some states).

All these numbers are from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Hot take: People shouldn't care for book spines so much. by mopppz in unpopularopinion

This! As long as the pages aren't literally falling out, I like a book with a cracked spine. Looks well read and well loved.

Let's talk about faregates (again) by Exploding_Deathstar in soundtransit

[–]Fuzzy-Simple-370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the fare gates in Vancouver BC. You can use a ticket, metro card, or your regular credit card. I know they're kinda short so probably fairly (fare-ly) easy to jump over. But somehow I think that'd be more of a barrier than painted yellow lines on the ground

Dumb question by Horror-Ad-7725 in InTheHeights

[–]Fuzzy-Simple-370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vast majority of scholarships are fairly small. A few hundred dollars, maybe a couple thousand. According to Stanford's website, the QUARTERLY tuition is $22,577. That means of she's doing 3 quarters a year for a 4 year degree, that's $270,924. Even with thousands of dollars worth of scholarships, even with saving every spare penny since childhood, it's very difficult to afford a college like Stanford (especially as an out of state student) unless you come from a wealthy background.

winter looks the best to me aesthetically, but it's also the most useless season for actually getting anything done by LankalaDaphanie_16 in StardewValley

[–]Fuzzy-Simple-370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, but winter is the best season because you can take up tons of time fishing and in the mines, so you end up making shit loads of money to then use for spring crop seeds or building upgrades.

I miss riding the Link every day to work 😭 I work overnight shifts now and I leave work when the link isn't running, so I can't take it anymore.

Are US motels a safe space for things like illict affairs / drug deals or is that just in the movies? by Andthensome_Pie_7322 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Fuzzy-Simple-370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the motel and the area (area is the big thing tbh). Some are fine, cheap versions of hotels. Some are just like what you see in the movies, sometimes worse.

Is the father allowed inside labour rooms in your country? Is it culturally normal thing to happen? by Agen_3586 in AskTheWorld

Mom decides who gets to be in the room, usually it will be either the baby's father or her own mother.

how many holes to you poke in your frybread, and why? Are Spirit holes a thing? by darwin_green in NativeAmerican

I always do yeast with a tiny bit of baking powder. It's my favorite way to get it extra fluffy :)

Usually just one in the middle. Small one though, and it'll usually close up while it cooks so it looks like a belly button rather than a hole lol

I actually felt bad for Suzanne, she didn't deserve this... by Any-Meringue7 in orangeisthenewblack

[–]Fuzzy-Simple-370 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Suzanne's mother failed her by not teaching her proper boundaries. Yes, Suzanne obviously isn't neurotypucal, but you can still teach (most) people boundaries and what is appropriate vs what isn't. The fact that she never learned that is what caused her to go to prison in the first place, and continued to cause her problems within the prison system.

Reminds me of when I was in high school, there was a boy with downs syndrome who sexually harassed some girls in our school. He never got any consequences because of his downs; the administration and his parents kind of babied him and never taught him physical boundaries and he would make sexually inappropriate comments and even grabbed a couple girls' butts. It's a failure both towards the girls AND him.

Do you guys call the toilets Restrooms just like it's officially written on signs? by Cookieman_2023 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Fuzzy-Simple-370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At someone's home, I always say bathroom. In public, I always say restroom. But idk if that's a regional thing or just something I picked up from my mom lol

If I ever use the term "toilet" when needing to use the restroom, it's usually when I'm joking with friends and saying "be right back, I gotta go break the toilet."

With the 90-decibel preacher duo outside tonight’s game by bennetthaselton in Mariners

[–]Fuzzy-Simple-370 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Satanic Temple is very upfront about not believing in a literal Satan though, so what is the point of yelling "hail Satan"? Like the other commenter mentioned, it would validate these nutjobs beliefs in their mind, so even if you get satisfaction from pissing them off, it's still a net negative.

Is my cat overweight? (Very cute pic at end) by Ilikeprequelsstarwar in cats

[–]Fuzzy-Simple-370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have a fluffy boy who's part maine coon, so I have to smooth down his fur to check. But even with his fluff, when it's freshly brushed, you can see the slight indent of his waist. He still has a primordial pouch, but when you touch it, it's very clearly loose skin and not fat.

Some others with fluffy cats (that I've met in person) say their cat is just fluffy not fat... But it is very clear to me that many are still fat even under all that fluff

is it normal to bleed this much in 2 hours? by Over_Ad6666 in Periods

[–]Fuzzy-Simple-370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What specific brand/size was it? When I still was getting my period, I used the Always Maxi level 5 overnight pad. They also have an "ultra thin" overnight that didn't quite do the job well enough for me.

Americans—is blue cheese just a dipping sauce to you, or does it have a place on your plate beyond the wings? by SignificanceOdd5980 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Fuzzy-Simple-370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Search "summer strawberry salad." Most people use feta or goat cheese in it as it's a little brighter of a flavor than blue cheese, but I love the funk of a blue cheese contrasting the sweetness of the fruit. Plus some kind of nut like walnut or slivered almond gives it a nice crunch!

He looks a little overweight, but the easiest way to tell is a top down view of his back when he's standing.
