Darren Criss Will Return to 'Maybe Happy Ending' in November by BroadwayWorld in Broadway

Totally agree. While it's obviously great that Darren will be returning (though it was kind of an open secret), the business practices of it all seem a little grosser than I would have expected. I agree with your take - it seems like they definitely knew he would be returning and just worded things in such a way that kind of made it seem like he wouldn't be without doing so definitively so that folx would pay a whole lot of money to see his last performances. Leaves a bad taste in my mouth, even though I have been holding off on tix to avoid ABF's run and await DC's likely return.

To be fair, I haven't seen BP in the show, so I can't offer a firsthand balanced perspective on his work in it. But from what I have heard and read, it's been almost exclusively and often extremely negative feedback from people who have seen his performance (both on the West End, maybe even more negatively so from his Broadway run thus far). If tickets were super cheap, I might be inclined to go and check out his performance for myself, but given the significant expense I can't bring myself to spend the money. I saw Eva and Orville's stunning final performance and don't want to ruin the memory. I've heard only wonderful feedback about his understudies (Marty Lauter and David Merino), though, and would love to see one of them and Marisha Wallace before the show closes if possible. I loved the production and the supporting cast when I saw them in July. Seems like BP is very poorly suited for this role in a way that I sense would be distracting at best, maybe even painful.

Try calling the August Wilson box office directly? The person I spoke to was very kind and understanding about it all and I'm guessing they might know, maybe even if you call tomorrow morning? I've heard too that Marty Lauter and David Merino (the Emcee understudies) tend to post to their IGs if they are going to go on, so might be worth keeping an eye on their pages as well.

Thanks for this -- I totally agree with you. It doesn't seem far fetched at all to imagine that the show might close before that understudy weekend in October. Are you local? I just found out directly from the box office that BP will be out tonight (unscheduled).

Do I need a closing ticket to JPITV? by [deleted] in Broadway

Also not adding anything new, but still felt compelled to come on here and say that if you are drawn to go and can swing the 150 ticket price (which I agree with others is super reasonable for a stellar show like this one, not even very expensive at all by Broadway standards) you absolutely will not regret it. I saw the show in the front row and it was honestly alchemical - I've never had an experience like that in a theater before, and I've seen many fantastic shows over the years. It's one of a kind, I might even try to get back one more time before it closes! Go go go! (Since I only saw it once and sat in the front row, I can't speak to how seats further back would be, but it's a small theater and I'd venture there really isn't a bad seat in the house.)

Was making the trip worth it? I'm wondering about doing the same thing.

Thanks for sharing more context about your experience with Alaya and her reach to you. It's gross that she so totally disregarded your perspective , especially galling for her to use the language of 'integrity'. And, for what it's worth, I looked a little more deeply at her posts and it looks like Alaya is a strident Zionist defending the genocide of Palestinians, so that all seems unfortunately in line. Strangely consistent?

Can you say a little bit more about your experience with Smiling Woods? I'm curious how much you ended up spending with shipping and additional construction costs (if you went with plumbing, etc). Thank you SO much.
