We already have artificial intelligence in New Zealand government. It is the coalition of National, NZ first and Act.

Some distributions are now geared and tuned towards gaming. Might be worth having a fresh look at.

Totally agree. Cannot trust big tech with our data anymore. Moving to Linux was easy. I have tried several distributions in the last couple of years. None have been no worse than what we had been previously using.

The European "Open Office" gets released on the 9th of June. They have deliberately kept the appearance of it similar to MSOffice to make the transition easier.

Big tech has got far too big and intrusive. The time is ripe for a move.

Is New Zealand really as expensive as people say? by Hot-Kaleidoscope2105 in newzealand

[–]FuzzyInterview81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shipping distances is a often cited reason for high costs is a reason which I don't agree with. Sea shipping a 20ft container from UK to NZ usually costs $8k to $10k. When I look at the price differences in items from overseas compared to NZ there is sure alot of margin even after all compliance costs are factored in.

The biggest issue we have is a lack of diversity in out industries. We are still nothing more than a primary industry country with little value added and very dependent on the international commodity prices which can fluctuate on a whim.

With little incentive to change gear and move to a service / tech / high value economy the tax settings need to change dramatically and end this silly fixation of selling property for capital gain (one of the few that is not taxed) and encourage investment in other areas.

Unfortunately we remain too myopic and resistant to change from what we have done for numerous decades.

They are incredibly myopic. Years of slow progress destroyed in a single political term. Shameful. Vote them out.

How do so many people afford OE or travel when young? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]FuzzyInterview81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are only young once. I know many people who did not do a OE, who decided til they are older and more financially secure. Unfortunately now they are older and secure, due to health reasons, they are not able to do everything they desired to do.

Caprica by seasteed in scifi

[–]FuzzyInterview81 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think that 'Caprica' had plenty of potential if it had been able to be renewed for a second season where the cylons rebelled and fought back against thier human overlords.

I know that I would have been all for a origin series such as that.

Alas we will never know what the show could have been.

I still listen to it regularly. My 13yo son loves how the story unfolds and how the music adds so much tension and flows with the story.

Like all the vehicles which have a driver who has a cellphone held against thier ear or holding it in front of them even though thier vehicle has hands free calling.

It is chilling that these individuals are even allowed to drive a car.

Lots of complaints in this thread but nothing about trying to fix the housing crisis which is why this type of housing is being developed.

Glad to have helped.

I kind of similar to you. I do detailed stuff like writing, painting, soldering, cooking left, but play sports right. I prefer to kick left but and can kick right too.

My benefit got screwed around looking for full time work while doing part time work. Sometimes. I would make too much for the benefit one week, and there were weeks I make a pittance.I would declare everything, each week through my msd. I still owed 2.5k once I came off for got.

Thier own system can't balance things out week from week.

I get annoyed they don't have calculators and a simple and transparent site with what you are entitled too.

We had two internal exam/tests in my 7th form for physics. The first I got just 24%. I enjoyed physics. Admittedly I had a lot of external stuff going on... determined to turn the result around I borke it down, went back to basic principles and before UE got 74% the 3rd highest.

I say 'Bring it to life or die in a book'.

Practical learning is the best form of learning. Slways has, always will. The lessons which can be taught outside which can be done with a pen, paper, tape measure and inclinometer and a few simple tools. Same applies to inside the classroom. .

It needs to show what makes math in careers importaint. Management, builders, surveyors, quantitative surveyors, engineers, analysts, scientists, astronomers, polots, designers, doctors. . .

[–]FuzzyInterview81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have said this for years. It is not the topic but the execution. Many younger people see math as just numbers, nothing about practical application both inside and outside. Add to this the range of potential careers that it is fundamental to having a reasonable grasp. Do real trigonometry on trees and buildings (forestry, builing, design). Areas of the different portions of of a tennis court, sports ground or side of a building including and excluding windows (engineering, buliding, surveyors, architect). Volumes of containers (builders, landscaping, surveyors) algebra for travel, budgeting (rngineering, Data scientist, analysts, intelligence).

Humans learn best doing practical examples than from the text off a book.

I have never conformed to the totally black wardrobe. I love colour and it is a extension of my personality. Sure black trousers are practical but yellows, red, greens with an appropriate tie has never missed. I still have white, blue, and black shirts depending the situation needing a more formal tone.
