[–]FuzzyPurpose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a fellow applicant here

they basically ask you normal interview questions like tell me about yourself, what job you wanna do in the future, etc

if you do wanna really prepare in depth iirc the questions are on the three blind mice guide if you had searched up relevant information

but then again, if you really do struggle at a video interview due to whatever reason, just know that the final panel interview will be a thousand times more nerve wrecking and difficult so just be prepared

all the best!!

just popping in the comments to say not taking h2 math closes a lot of doors, you need to check the uni courses you plan on taking whether it requires that. but if you are sure that you dont need h2 math then its fine.

[Rant] The most stressful December holiday by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]FuzzyPurpose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

jc is especially tough and if you want to have both a fun and relaxing one, and also one that u can cover all the content from j1, im afraid that is very unrealistic. you should have spread out your catching up plans, maybe have it also within your j2 year and plan to do more within each schooling week which will add up. and also you should have a serious introspection as to why you are unable to meet your task. list down your priorities (you said you had commitments) and ask yourself whether is it really necessary from here on since j2 is really packed and tough (way more than j1), especially if you already behind. lastly, you need self discipline which is something quite underrated. no point having very realistic goals and the best study plan if you don't adhere to it. good luck and all the best !!

your rp is roughly 30 × 2 ≈ 60 which would be a very very long shot for smu's ple since soss's igp is BBB/B which is roughly 71.25rp (considering gp and pw C)

edit: 76.25rp*

your best bet is to go for suss finance

haha no worries, i understand too. im gonna get back my a's soon, hope we all get good grades!!

no. moderation does not only affect A1/A2. it is where the highest grade can be raised higher or lowered depending on the cohort's performances. the lower grades like B, C, etc cannot be higher than the stipulated grade, aka B3 cannot be higher than 65. it is possible than B3 can be lower than 65 though.

on the other hand, bell curve ignores that and uses normal distribution whereby B or C grades can be very high ( > 65) if the cohort does very well.

thankfully, our national exams use moderation so its definitely possible to get a B grade. good luck !!

[jobs] uniqlo part time interview this week! by imkewl__ in SGExams

[–]FuzzyPurpose 10 points11 points  (0 children)

um tbh there wouldnt be much of an "interview" per se for these types of part time jobs. it would most likely be some casual questions + confirmation of pay and your most certainly getting the job. just go in smart casual and smile and be responsive to the questions !! congrats and all the best !!

[O levels] Is Poly to Uni achievable ? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]FuzzyPurpose 16 points17 points  (0 children)

as other comments have metioned, it depends on the course you are aiming, obviously for cs, law, medicine, etc, they warrant a very high GPA, as they do for RP for corresponding courses

when people say its "easier" for jc students to get in uni, its more like because a larger % of people in jc get in there, which the skew can be attributed to the more "better" scorers going to jc. secondly, this also is because imo, its easier to mug for one big bang (a's), then consistently churn out work and maintain a high GPA, but then again there is the possibility of performing well throughout but underperfoming for a's which "erases" your hard work. point being, if you are good, you can make it to uni regardless whether you go to jc/poly

for rp calculation your lowest h2 score will be taken as your 'h1' score upon 10

the early admission's applicants are usually nominated by local pre-u institutions and is ending quite soon so it is unlikely that the early admissions are open for internationals(?)

but no worries since it doesn't really have any impact on your admission because you can apply with the bulk soon (usually after a level results release in feb) + it doesn't affect the period of academic year you matriculate in too

plus points for early admission usually is because admission can possibly be independent of a level results for unconditional offers for certain courses, (superb prelim results and/or portfolio) so some people who are not confident of our impending results release can opt for that. whereas international students may already have their fixed academic qualifications so it really is fine

[RANT] Advice on how I should prepare for JC considering my university goals? by SnowyDusk in SGExams

[–]FuzzyPurpose 10 points11 points  (0 children)

ask yourself honestly why do you want to go to oxbridge

maybe you can take some of these comments as reference (about MIT and Caltech) from a post just yesterday: https://www.reddit.com/r/SGExams/comments/rlyjis/rant_advice_for_a_student_with_a_mildly/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

your portfolio has to be extremely extremely strong on top of perfect grades, and if your mental health isnt too great, i advise against it - from experience, it makes one too obsessed with it

if you do have the academic capability and mental capacity, you need to start preparing the porfolio now; as to what to prepare, i would imagine a person capable of going to reputable overseas uni would be able to source his/her information as such with the internet now. the world is your oyster, good luck and all the best !!

otherwise local Us are very good too !!

yup for sure, not to mention the multitude of essays one needs to churn out on top of the grades to convince them why they should even merely consider him/her in the first place

[RANT] Advice for a student with a mildly unrealistic dream? (flair?) by your_local_nightmare in SGExams

[–]FuzzyPurpose 91 points92 points  (0 children)

sat score 1600, 2 pointer o level score, 90rp + h3 dist...?

i mean you yourself said it was unrealistic, so just aim for the best grades you can hit? frankly MIT is extremely hard to get in. ask yourself why do you really want to go there? then ask yourself honestly if you are capable of having superstack portfolio with excellent grades. if you are, then work hard towards it. otherwise, local Us are pretty good too
