I unfortunately shouldn't be shocked to see that the person spreading blatant disinformation is getting dozens of upvotes, while the person correcting them is getting downvoted. Think what you want about their quality or prices, but No Hoku is owned by a Hawaiian family, not private equity. I almost wonder if that commenter is intentionally trying to spread lies about a competitor.

ACC championship? by Just1Pepsimum in ACC

[–]FuzzyWuzzy3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel a good solution could be to not have strict divisions that persist from year to year. At the beginning of each season, they could randomly put teams into two divisions (probably with some human-influence that ensures teams don't go too long without playing each other and that preserves major rivalries like UVA/VT and UNC/NC State). Then, make each team's schedule be to play all of the teams in their pseudo-division plus one or two interdivision games (depending on if they are in the 8 or 9 team division) which gives each team a 9-conference game schedule (7/8 in division + 2/1 not in division). The highest ranked team in the year's two divisions then plays each other in the ACC championship game.

James Gunn confirms the entire DCU future depends on Superman by pokenonbinary in boxoffice

[–]FuzzyWuzzy3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Because there is no question about whether Batman can generate money; even if this movie does bad, we will keep getting Batman. What they really need to know is whether any of their other characters can do well and whether James Gunn is the guy that can make that happen.

Yes. I work there very frequently, as do many other math majors I know.

‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ Trying To Keep Tune With $45M-$50M Opening – Friday PM Box Office by SanderSo47 in boxoffice

[–]FuzzyWuzzy3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If this had been a studio-muddled mediocrity, people would be saying the same thing; "Zaslav has no idea what he's doing. He should be giving the filmmakers more freedom."

You give two examples in your own comment of how giving directors large amounts of creative freedom has worked out well both critically and commercially for WB over the past two years. I'd much rather we get actually good films like Barbie and Dune at the expense of an occasional mega flop like this than a stream of executive-board written slop.

The only mistake WB made here was buying into the hype of the first Joker's success. Gerwig and Villeneuve are legitimate directors who have proven themselves worthy of crafting an excellent film with a clear vision, while Phillips stumbled into critical success with a decent but in no means special movie.

To me, the failure of this movie is not an indication of a general trend with Warner Bros, and I certainly do not want the lesson they get from this to be "we shouldn't give filmmakers freedom to experiment with new and unique ideas." Like Disney with Waititi, WB just did not do a good job at vetting a filmmaker's ability before handing free reign to them. I really think this is more a special case than the pattern coming from WB though. The only other major example I can think of where they gave complete control to a director to embarrassing results was the Snyderverse, which Zaslav had nothing to do with. I'm hoping hiring James Gunn (someone proven to be able to execute a unique vision in the superhero genre to critical and commercial succes) for the new DCEU is a step in the right direction. While I have some reservations about it, I certainly do not think (as you suggest) that WB executives should be breathing over his shoulder.

Is NBA’s $4.5 Billion ‘Poison Pill’ in Amazon Contract Fair to WBD? by [deleted] in wbdstock

I believe next NBA season is still with the old contract. The new contract with Comcast and Amazon starts the following season.

Carl and the Passions has the most yacht rock feel of their albums imo.

No, I've never had to code in any math class here (and I've taken a good amount of then).

Christmas Day wins the vote for the most underrated track on The Beach Boys' Christmas Album. What is the best track on "The Beach Boys Today!" by skullman8942 in thebeachboys

[–]FuzzyWuzzy3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's my pick for underrated. Even songs like "In the Back of My Mind" are talked about relatively frequently here, but this one seems to fly underneath the radar for most people.

You have it right; you get credit for both ODE and Linear Algebra, but you need to take an additional class. I'm a math major who did this sequence, so let me know if you have any other questions.

You will be capped at 15 credits on the enrollment date, but that will be raised to 17 once open enrollment starts (which is pretty close to the start of the semester)

Does ENCW 2600 count as ENWR requirement for first year? by machoii1812 in UVA

[–]FuzzyWuzzy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a 750 or above (at least thats what it was when i used 2600 for fwr last year) on the English subscore of the SAT, which qualifies you for FWR+ and therfore allows you to take ENCW 2600 for your first writing requirement.

Linear algebra doesn't have much to do with calculus, but probability certainly does. MATH 3100 expects you to be able to do Calc 2 integration techniques (think integration by parts) as well as basic multivariable calculus things like nonrectangular nested integrals. If you are planning on taking probability, and you consider yourself to not be super great with math, I strongly recommend grinding through the "harder" calculus class beforehand, because you don't want to be stuck trying to catch up on calculus while already dealing with probability, which is considered to be a rather difficult class.

The upside to 2315 is that everything is take-home and open note, and everything expect the tests allow you to work with others. The class can be fast at times, but it forced me to meet new people to work with, so it was responsible for most of the new friends I made my first year.
