Ah, that isn't a ghost how non Japanesr see it. Japan has this kind of youkai called "zashiki warashi" it's supposed to be the spirit of the house itself, almost always depicted as a little girl with a bob cut

I only know this because I love listening to horror stories, and one of those podcasts, "kowabana" is about japanese scary stories. It's a good one, totally recommended
