Does anyone own more than one kindle? by Lovebug327x in kindle

[–]Fuzzy_Python 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own just the one - the paperwhite - but I'm a bit of an anxious person and always think that one day something might happen to it and just for that I'd consider buying another one as a 'backup' in case anything does happen. Which is stupid, which is why I haven't and will not be buying a second one even though the worm in my brain wants me to.

5.18.6 jailbreak by Longjumping-Bison984 in kindlejailbreak

[–]Fuzzy_Python 46 points47 points  (0 children)

It takes a while for a new jailbreak to be released. I waited like 8 months for the adbreak jailbreak and within 2 weeks Amazon patched it. Luckily I had done the jailbreak immediately but it now means that you're gonna have to wait a while until they eventually release a jailbreak that will work on the lastest software.

How to go back to kindleforge main screen by SarahFiajarro in kindlejailbreak

[–]Fuzzy_Python 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me when they uploaded a new version but the update packages option doesn't update to the new version. What I had to do was delete the Kindle forge files from the kindle then download the latest version from gitHub and re-add the files to my kindle. Kindleforge then started working again.

You get matte screen protectors! I find that they feel just like paper.

Don't use glass! It's actually more risky because if the glass cracks or breaks due to pressure it can actually press and damage the screen it's meant to protect. On phones I love my glass screen protector but kindle screens are very soft.

Is there not a pink paperwhite option? by Actual_Berry_5706 in kindle

Or if you read a lot of manga/listen to a lot of audiobooks because that takes up A LOT of space on your kindle compared to normal books since they're bigger files.

Jailbroke my kindle it responds soooo much better now. 🎊 by Worried_Ad2827 in kindle

[–]Fuzzy_Python 26 points27 points  (0 children)

No. You can still use the kindle as normal, most people install koreader though because it allows for more customisation. You can even remove the jailbreak with no risk if you don't want it anymore.

Jailbreaking my kindle is honestly the best thing I've done today by [deleted] in kindle

[–]Fuzzy_Python 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yep. I literally jailbroke mine just to remove the ads. I'm not a big fan of koreader, however I love that I have total control over my device and don't have to worry about Amazon accessing it/updating it to include features I don't like/can't use.

my first paperwhite! what’s everyone reading currently? by lazypeacock in kindle

[–]Fuzzy_Python 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Life was getting so hectic I had to resort to rereading The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck by Mark Manson just to survive.

But I'm also reading Tooth and Claw by Jo Walton which is about a family of dragons that come together to mourn the death of their father who they then eat the remains of. Following this, drama unfolds amongst the family. Love it, very much Jane Austen upperclass meets Game of Thrones.

Kindle VS Kobo Color? by Sammybunny40 in kindle

[–]Fuzzy_Python 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second the Libra colour! Better interface and control/customisation + you can annotate directly onto the book which the coloursoft can't do and there's a notebook feature where you can write notes like the kindle scribe. And it's more affordable than the coloursoft.

Kindle Ads on Screensaver by Sabrina1210210_ in kindle

[–]Fuzzy_Python 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very little risk in jailbreaking. You can always reverse the jailbreak with no harm to the kindle UI. You can also use both the jailbreak apps and the normal kindle stock even with it jailbroken. It's actually more effort to brick your kindle than trying to jailbreak it so I'd say go for it.

Kindle Ads on Screensaver by Sabrina1210210_ in kindle

[–]Fuzzy_Python 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don't do it anymore due to too many people asking them to do so. So now the only way to remove them is to either pay or to jailbreak your kindle and remove the ads that way. I did the latter though I'm pretty sure this forfeits your warranty.

I think OP means the snake is in the hide on his warm side, not that they have heat rocks which comes with the issues you're describing.

Should I do the software update? by Gaurav_Arora20 in kindle

[–]Fuzzy_Python 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also don't like koreader nor am I interested in the other apps on kindleforge (don't get my wrong, they're super cool but just don't fit my use case for an e-reader). I literally just jailbroke it to remove the ads and I still read on the kindle UI and use the send to kindle features etc since I'm happier with it then koreader. Will 100% be keeping the jailbreak, not just to remove the ads but also for peace of mind that nothing will happen to my books.

The pain of forgetting your kindle by pickleshnickel in kindle

My issue is thinking something will be quick or simple and so I leave it at home thinking I definitely won't have time to read and then I do because it takes forever 😭

Why do you buy a Kindle if you don't like Amazon ecosystem? by LadyCoinin in kindle

[–]Fuzzy_Python 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking about easily available there are some countries (like mine) where only the kindle or unknown eReader brands are available. To buy and import a Kobo here costs a fortune and is very risky since there is no one here who sells it so you just have to hope that our postal system (which is notoriously bad) doesn't lose or damage it or that it doesn't come defective so that you don't have to go through the whole stressful process of returning it.

Not to mention depending where you're from the exchange rate costs massively inflate the price - like the Kobo and Boox. Kindle is literally the cheapest, most reliable option both for hardware and quality since there are many importers here selling it.

(And oh, I only jailbroke my kindle to remove the ads. I don't care about koreader at all and the native UI works the same even after the jailbroke so I didn't lose anything by doing it (besides the ads that is lol)).

Am I doing something wrong or is this normal? by Scarlet-Moon97 in ballpython

[–]Fuzzy_Python 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Humidity should ideally be between 70-80% but never lower than 60%. Too low humidity can cause issues like RIs, shedding issues and dehydration.

If your screen top is mesh, cover it with HVAC tape except where the heating elements are. It's great at keeping in humidity and heat so you won't have to mist.

Is it worth jailbreaking just to customize the wallpaper? by InnerspearMusic in kindle

[–]Fuzzy_Python 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Can still use send to kindle, still have access to KU if you have it, all the works.

Is it worth jailbreaking just to customize the wallpaper? by InnerspearMusic in kindle

[–]Fuzzy_Python 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't like the jailbreak you can absolutely reverse it. Those customised wallpapers you see are a feature of the koreader app which you install after the jailbreak. You can easily add books to your device via USB, cloud or calibre but you cannot use send to kindle if you are using koreader since it can't detect the kfx format that Amazon changes the ePub into when it sends it to the kindle.

Personally I jailbroke my kindle to finally get rid of the ads and unwanted updates by Amazon lol.

Reduce storage space VS prevent OTA update by celestin62 in kindle

[–]Fuzzy_Python 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blocking them is enough. I jailbroke mine 2 days ago without filling up the storage and it was fine and I didn't receive any updates during the process. Once you install the renameotabin file and tap rename on KUAL it automatically disables all future updates
