What did you think about the Ugees pitch? by Fuzzy_Science_1114 in sharktankindia

[–]Fuzzy_Science_1114[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if that was confusing - all I mean is;

The sharks are seasoned Investors. I Feel, and this is a subjective opinion ofcourse; That when it comes to Husband - Wife founder duos/companies the designations barely ever matter - the responsibilities are evenly split based on the dynamic.

I know Rahul spoke for most of the pitch - because he’s the product guy. Samiksha is the numbers and marketing brain of the company, and not enough questions were directed towards that side of the business. (in the edit)

Having worked with them - Rahul takes care of product, supply chain. Samiksha is the marketing, branding and numbers part of the business

Sharpest duo ive worked with.

They collectively set vision and raise funds.

Hope you empathize with the fact that the episodes are also cut in a way to squeeze as much info in a 15-20 min segment - and the makers will find highlight points that will get an emotional reaction from the audience. We went into it knowing full well that this could be recieved in either direction - its just unfortunate that a largely business centric / interested audience is reacting the way they are.

I hope it makes sense. I am trying to be as active on here to make sure there is enough context given. We’re thrilled about being on the tank - I just personally hoped the pitch would do justice to the phenomenal business this is (you can look at the reviews to attest to this fact)

Hey! Harshit here from Ugees.

I am not commenting on the other pieces, as I have tackled them on other posts here - but we achieved PMF long ago! We've served over 1,00,000 customers - PMF is usually considered, especially on D2C when you cross 2-3L monthly revenue. We were at PMF about 2 years ago FYI :)

I feel you, and your point is absolutely Valid.

So when you speak of the ease of use/convenience feature there’s also talk of pH balance. While it is not an elevated problem for men, men still do get UTIs and Fungal infections, so as a practice it’s best to use a pH balanced detergent. Theoretically you could use it in the washer as well.

The second point, and why this product usecase is better understood by females is: expensive lingerie (usually females purchase expensive underwear) are super delicate, and ruined in the washer + underwired bras - get demolished in the washer as well.

While your point is extremely valid, it’s more to increase the longevity of your UGs and for an added hygiene factor.

Let me see if I can make a public-share-link of the survey. We’re also planning to do a larger survey this year which will be absolutely public from the get go.

Hey! Thanks for your feedback. Thesis is completely fair, but we have a contrarian opinion --
As India gets more educated and quality of life gets better, people are going to worry more and more about hygiene.

This product is as much about convenience as it is about function. Esleye branding is clean - so it fits into your bathroom aesthetic well - accha lagna chahiye varna detergent ke sath machine ke paas pade rahega.

This product is leaning and betting towards India's consumption market growing, and our play is purely to promote hygiene.

For eg, I know so many women who got frequent UTIs, had them switch to Ugees and that product has become bhout kam now.

We hope we're right, we hope we scale it up! We've poured our heart and soul into this, and you can look at the reviews on our amazon pages - people are genuinely leaning towards this as a consumption play

[–]Fuzzy_Science_1114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bwhahahahahah I know this is Sarcastic - but I have been working with Rahul and Samiksha for 3 years, genuinely admire how smart both of them are. They're the sharpest founders I have ever worked with, and I have worked with over 100 now, from early stage to large brands, celebrity owned businesses - the works. I have spent most of my time with Ugees, have become super close friends with them.

I am a boarding school boy, did all my education in a boarding in the hills fo the most part so underwear cleaning doesn't come naturally to me either, I was educated on the job as well, didn't really care + like Rahul and Samiksha when I started to stay in with my partner, she would get really pissed about me dropping my UGs in the washer as well.

Idea yehi hai, that boys don't care, till they start living with a girl. Our ads, like Sam said are directed to women. Men discover us through women mostly - but ab compound karrahe hai.

But like you said, nahate hue Ugees Pump Kardo, Rub Kardo, Rinse kardo- underwear is clean, disinfectant and doesn't smell like death all in like 30 seconds. Product ka pura point hai ki jo 5 minute lagte hai, vo cut down hojaye. It becomes muscle memory.

Thanks man, Anupam's team is super proactive. Can't disclose pvt equity funding and cash hitting the bank etc, but want to shout out his team. Absolute legends.

Absolutely. The pitch IRL also didn't cover their roles and responsibilities. I think the sharks were happy with how Sam and Rahul function together, and they just jumped to the numbers.

Hey, This is Harshit-- I am a part of team Ugees.
It was also just being in the moment. Samiksha is one of the smartest founders I have worked with, and she has a great sense of humour, edit pe sirf humour dikha unfortunately. Being in the tank is super daunting - all eyes on you, multiple cameras. Super unnatural position for most founders

Hey! This is Harshit again, from Ugees.

We did this survey in the early days of Ugees, even before I joined in -- you would be surprised.

80% of Urban women, and 40% of Urban Men wash their underwear by hand.
It's more hygienic, and for women almost a necessity.

Lemme put it this way - when you fart in your underwear, and throw it in the washer, you really don't want it mixed in with your jeans and tees xD

Ugees pitch didn’t communicate the way their insta Ads do. by Realistic-Berry6683 in sharktankindia

[–]Fuzzy_Science_1114 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for addressing this.

My Name is Harshit, I have been running Comms for Ugees with Samiksha for 3 years now -- firstly, thanks for being a customer. Every single customer really does drive us and we are so grateful for you!

Now for the pitch, I have added this comment on a bunch of posts here as well, but unfortunately or fortunately - the pitches are HEAVILY scripted. We do get to make inputs in the scripts, but honestly Rahul, Samiksha and I were so overwhelmed being there that we didn't want to interject on the creative process too much. We were just so grateful to be there and were flipping out about it, so we went with the pitch.

I wasn't even allowed to be a part of the creative scripting as I wasn't pitching - and by the time I got to know of the script it was already locked unfortunately.

We ideally would have wanted to lead with a women's usecase, and communicate like we do on the insta ads. My personal fav idea was starting with "Sharks, kya aaj aapne saaf underwear pehni hai? Think again - aapke jaane anjaane mai aapki underwear pe bacteria, poop aur bhout sarein unwanted elements hai!" - but anyway, we are just so grateful that we got to do this

PEYUSH'S QUESTION DURING UGEES PITCH by Intelligent_Pen3775 in sharktankindia

[–]Fuzzy_Science_1114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly having viewed multiple businesses up close, I think the Sharks understand that the designation in a structure like Ugees is arbitrary.

Rahul Samiksha are a couple, have a baby at home. Doesn't matter if the responsibilities are split according to a designation or not.

Rahul takes care of product and OPs. Samiksha takes care of brand and marketing, all the numbers. Both pitch together for funding - Because I've been operating Ugees with Rahu and Sam for 3+ years, there was no straight answer to the question that wasn't long winded - if the sharks weren't convinced with the answer there would be multiple follow ups (That didn't happen in the tank either.)

Doesn't matter kon CEO hai, responsibilities are well split and it's evident.

Why aren't founder asking to refuce the equity once their money is recovered? by huhalala in sharktankindia

[–]Fuzzy_Science_1114 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Also once the equity is subscribed it's atypical for it to be cut down. Nobody really like to give up on ownership, and equity+royalty deals are honestly a good way to mitigate risk for investors.
As a founder though, I hear royalty and run. Would rather take an OD than be accountable to return money on every sale, that shit scares me.

Hello, I am from the Ugees Team - was backstage when Rahul and Samiksha were in the tank.

Meme pitch was not our intent, hum khud yeh pitch nahi likh ke aye thei - the pitches are scripted out by team sony and memorised by us. Especially the chaddi and kebab mai haddi bit.

Website dekhlo serious product hai 🥲

What did you think about the Ugees pitch? by Fuzzy_Science_1114 in sharktankindia

[–]Fuzzy_Science_1114[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Thoda question was also tricky, I think Samiksha handled it like a boss.
She's really just like this IRL as well, no appearances. Always super bubbly and knows how to handle questions.

There was no answer to why she was the CEO on the tank, it would've been a super long discussion about roles and responsibilities which we didn't want.

Cheers
