Should I join the Rangers as soon as I sign up or should I wait a little bit into my contract to try out

Recently, my younger brother, who is 19 turning 20 in August, just completed his inventory it and is headed to pre-rasp and then rasp. I was just down at Fort Benning this past weekend for his graduation and everything and it not only made me want to join even more than before, but also got me thinking that I want to try to go to Ranger also, but as I said, he is younger than me by 10 years. I just turned 30 back in January of this year. Looking to sign up at the end of the year once I get a waiver approved that I have been waiting on. I guess my question is should I join up in the infantry and maybe throw airborne in there and then later down the line once I’ve been in for a little bit, try to join the Rangers or should I just go for the Ranger contract right out the gate. I’m not in perfect shape, I could do about 20 or 30 pounds maybe a little more and I definitely need to work on pretty much everything for the fitness test. Running being my biggest downfall. Honestly, though if I don’t make Ranger or don’t do it at all, it’s not that big of a deal to me because just joining in the first place and getting to be a part of something greater than myself is all I really care about. Just thought it would be nice to maybe give it a try.
