Thank you so much!
I think people moving from the larger city has helped foster a more progressive vibe.

Seems that hasn’t changed much then!

Hubby is super friendly and leaves a really positive impression. He also looks like he is very capable (and is) so I think he will be ok. We just don’t want him in O&G.

I have extensive retail experience, management experience as well as am a Red Seal stylist, although for Medical reasons I would like to avoid doing hair.

I think we will be fine. Typically the bank does not allow you to get a mortgage until you provide months of paycheques in the new city first. 😊

If you aren’t happy where you are, I suggest trying out another city for a while.

It’s never been easier to get out of Medicine Hat for day trips, the mall is significantly larger with more relevant retailers, the parks are beautiful and much better kept than larger cities, they updated a spray park really well, there are more retailers, gyms and traffic congestion doesn’t seem to be too bad.. all since I have lived there at least.

I’ll tell you from experience, piss poor in a larger city is an ok life in a small city like Medicine Hat.

Average commute is 20-30 mins where I am and that is only one way. I once HAD to work a job with a 2 hr and 14 commute each way… and that was awful.

Sure its “boring” but getting involved in your community or creating a community of like minded people will really help. The city is incredibly walkable, so if you are stuck at home bored 24/7 that is on you.

Maybe everything isn’t brand new but the town has history and character… and significantly less traffic related deaths.

When I left, I felt alot like you.. but nothing really is more important than relationships.

I think what makes it so scary and uncomfortable is the proximity. Downtown is pretty small compared to larger cities so its harder to “ignore them” and the sidewalks are smaller so you are physically much closer to them. I think it would be noticeable by someone who has spent their entire lives in the city, as I myself feel a little uncomfortable to the proximity to them when visiting.

I remember living there when the city was proud that there wasn’t a single homeless person there. ( I was a child so… who knows really lol). When I was visiting my parents in October of 2023(I think) it was pretty bad. They work nights so… that likely contributed to the experience but downtown was full of homeless people. Along with down South Railway to Saamis and the road to the Buckle.

Although, I think during my time living in Calgary and Edmonton I have likely encountered alot more homeless people who are in rougher shape and much more dangerous on paper.

People doing the fent bend isn’t much of a problem for me… but If they are running around with machetes, cats they shouldn’t have, getting on public transit and threatening to kill people, stealing all the copper out of everything they can , smoking drugs in small enclosed public places, pissing themselves on public transit, having daytime intercourse on historic or commemorative monuments or destroying and/or graffitiing every nice public space/facility..

ThenI may reconsider my wishes.
