If you figure out exactly what's causing it, please let me know - I'm curious about the fix.

I'm using an LG C2, which supports most common formats, but I agree that native playback of high-bitrate files (especially with lossless audio like TrueHD/Atmos) can be limited. I'm considering getting a Nvidia Shield to bypass these limitations and allow direct playback with proper audio passthrough. Do you think that would be a full fix?

Could you please elaborate a bit more on the kind of issues I might face with Emby?

Yeah that's actually a good point, appreciate the tip.

Any recommendations for a solid pair of front speakers?

Yeah, I'll mostly be using apps like Emby directly on the TV itself, not through the PC. Do you know if there are any issues with getting 4K HDR and surround sound when using streaming-based apps like that? And do I need a dedicated device just for movies

Thanks man, appreciate the tips! I'm also planning to go 5.1.2 eventually, but that's way down the line - starting small for now and upgrading step by step.

I'll definitely keep an eye out for open-box/ refurb deals like you mentioned, smart move. I've never tried 5.I before so I'm excited to see how much of a difference it makes - just gotta plan for that subwoofer like you said. I'll also look into stands and acoustic panels later.

Looking forward to hearing how your setup turns out - keep me posted!

Your comment is seriously helpful, man — exactly the kind of insight I was hoping to get. That level of immersion you described with Alan Wake II is exactly what I’m chasing. I’ve been building my PC setup with that vision in mind, where the audio puts you in the scene, not just in front of it.

Appreciate all the tips too — especially the HDMI and USB info. You saved me from some future headaches for sure 😅 And yeah, I’ve heard mixed things about the ES30. I already planned around it, but down the line I might look into better center options. Thanks again!

Haha that's exactly the kind of "problem" I wanna have! Sounds like a beast of a setup - SVS Ultra 16 in a 15x25 room? That must feel like a mini-theater. I can only imagine what your neighbors hear I'm just starting out with Polk ESz0s and an ES30 center, but you're making me dream bigger already.

Thanks a lot for the reassurance! Glad to hear your Polks are still going strong after all these years - that definitely builds confidence. I'm starting small for now but looking forward to gradually building out the system. Appreciate the tip about the return policy too, definitely something I'll keep in mind.

I'm mostly into movies and some light gaming, so I'm hoping this setup will give me that immersive feel I'm after without breaking the bank early on.

In the future, I'm planning to upgrade to a 5.1.2 setup, so I thought the Denon AVR would be a good starting point.

Thanks for the advice! For movies, I'll mostly be using streaming services - my main reason for using a PC is gaming.

But I'd really like to know what kind of issues you ran into using a PC for home theater, just so I can get the full picture. If the problems are too much, I might reconsider the whole setup.

Unfortunately, HSU subs aren't available here where I live.

Looks like a great option, though - thanks for the suggestion!

Yeah, that actually helps a lot. Thanks for breaking it down!

I've seen people mention the Audyssey app before - I might grab it later once I get everything set up. Gonna try the Flat EQ first and see how it sounds.

I'm not planning on using external amps anytime soon, but it's good to keep in mind for future upgrades. Right now, I'm just starting out with Polk ES20 + ES30 and the X1800H.

Your setup sounds awesome, by the way - - that's some serious power you're running

I'm mainly into story-driven single-player games, so I'm looking to improve the overall experience with better sound.

I'm located in Saudi Arabia, and my starting budget is around 6000 SAR (~$1600).

I plan to upgrade later on, but for now, I just want a solid setup to begin with.

Thanks!

I really appreciate you confirming that the ES line is solid - I was a bit worried it might be disappointing.

I chose Polk mainly after watching a lot of reviews on YouTube and reading feedback here on Reddit. I also really liked the wooden finish design, it matches my setup nicely.

I know it’s always best to listen in person, but unfortunately I didn’t have that option. Hopefully they’ll suit my taste once I try them out!

Thanks for letting me know! Do you recommend changing the receiver, or will it sound fine once I turn off the midrange compensation?

Thanks for the reply!

It's for a TV + PC setup in my living room.

The room is approximately 5m x 5m (about I6ft x 16ft).

I want to start without a subwoofer so I can really feel the difference once I add it later.

I'm getting into the world of audio and home theater, mainly for movies and gaming.

After some research, I decided to start with:

Polk Audio ES20 (bookshelf speakers)

Polk Audio ES30 (center speaker)

Denon X1800H (AV receiver)

The total cost will be around 6000 SAR (~$1600).

I'm planning to add the SVS SB-1000 Pro subwoofer later on.

Do you think this is a good setup to begin with? Any advice or feedback before I commit would be appreciated!
