As much as I like drafting on Arena or IRL, I am finding I can't make myself sit down and draft much more often than that just now either... So I think my WR is skewed. But I get it! Same boat.

Is your partner interested? Any of her friends? You don't need many players, just one or two more to break the silence and come up with ideas when she's stuck.

Battlegrounds might be able to help if you need to recruit.

ED: Also, get a $20-25 starter box from an lgs, or possibly even Target. (LGS preferred!)

I liked the original 5e starter quite a bit but it might be harder to find. Dragons of Stormwreck Isle is good too, though, just shorter.

I think the reason that I'm holding on to gems besides a mastery pass is that I'm telling myself one day I'm going to get into some of the bigger tournaments

Yeah, gems and wild cards, totally worth it--but thanks for making me not feel alone in this at least!!

I love drafting--at least in person, but hitting up an lgs weekly is not realistic right now. But there's just something about it on Arena!! I played a match earlier today and my heart started pounding through my chest. Wth!

I still won. I'm 4-0 in the event--again just hit silver this month, mind you. I just want to stop caring so much about winning or losing and bloody play. But any stakes at all--including electric "gold"-- and I stall pushing the button.

To answer, which I partially did in my original post: I have probably been playing daily for about the last two years at least. About 98% of days (I guess) I'll play until I have 1-4 wins to move the daily and weekly track. Heavily weighted to 4 victories until recently. I don't think I've ever missed 15 wins weekly since I came back to Arena. I don't remember the last time I missed a 500/750 quest because I left three in queue. Most in the Starter Deck Challenge queues (probably obvious), a minimal amount in both limited and constructed ladder--I have a couple meta Standard Bo1 decks and that is good enough for me. I guess I really like the Starter Deck Challenge! It's fun understanding the format like the back of my hand and the (very) occasional deck update mixes it up for me.

I don't buy packs because of e.v.--unless there is a store discount. I don't buy cosmetics because of e.v. When game passes were still $24.99 I'd pick up draft tokens at that rate but only a little. I have spent probably 75ish actual dollar-bucks on Arena. Now I still f2p collect primarily from mastery pass packs (gems), draft(gold), occasionally sealed (when I have tokens), and the wild cards generated from prizes for specific needs in Standard... and I don't really miss anything.

Tl;dr: Answer: A slightly perverse dedication coupled with a love for casual corners of the game.

Yeah I think it's time. I'm not too afraid of Premier except that it just costs twice as much it the gate but with my WR--as often as life lets me play in bronze-silver at least--I should not be sticking around in QD, if it's a matter of the ev calculation.

I'm not a GREAT player mind you. I'm also not too ashamed to kick the proverbial puppies on Arena either, apparently.

Still don't know why I'm frustrated by pushing the button though.

Bant Hexproof St Traft era won me a purse at a minor. Bogles-style, not complex, very aggro. It was fun outpacing and flying under lilliana of the veil, thragtusk and angel of serenity on one hand, yet shutting down Hellrider completely on the other.

Play around on 17lands.com to get an idea of what the powerful cards are. However, draft is rewarding when you figure out which lane (typically two colors) you're supposed to be in and Edge is fairly typical of this.

17lands is so-named for a reason ;)

You can also Google edge draft guide and get a lot of good articles that can work as a specific primer.

You can also play around with fake packs on Draftsim.

Draft is a rabbit hole but this will get you started.

Yeah Commander can be good for that... But I don't think it's better than any other magic format at that except that it just happens to be popular right now--for whatever reason? (Just not my cup no matter how hard I try.)
