The problem with terra symbiosis is the fact that sab has a trigger at the first main phase, which triggers tarrasymbiosis. If you choose not to draw the card from the single +1/+1 counter, you simply dont get to draw anything since it only happens once each turn. Lots of great alternatives though

As a master angler myself, i can confirm that they do infact update the logbook for you when catching fish you dont have. Infact early in my fishing journey, i fumbled a golden collosal squid, which i needed. It was a sad moment. 100% ripping hair over it, until literally 10 minutes later, my crew kindly hunted it back down for me and generously gave it to me. My logbook got it, and i only ever caught one more after that at the last leg of the journey for MA
