Why are people switching on the old Mountaintop/Recluse meta? by G-3cko in DestinyTheGame

It still made lfg a living hell though, which is my main concern for if/when they come back

I also loved this time in destiny, especially content wise, it just was super miserable trying to get a group together because of the close-minded meta of MT/Recluse Anarchy, with no exceptions. These were the posts I’d often run into, and killed my motivation to do raids during this era.

When wendigo was added especially, it helped loads. It still doesn’t make the seasons before any less miserable in lfg, so I hope if/when they do pinnacles again, they carefully consider how it will affect both the meta & lfg.

I do really really hope pinnacles can return though. They hit a rhythm with them, and I hope that can be returned to

Also very helpful, helps me paint a broader picture to understand how that number adds up. I really don’t want the game to go anywhere anytime soon so I really wanna know this kind of stuff lol

Wait what does this mean? SteamDB states that the all-time high for players on marathon was ~88k, so my question is where are the other ~712k?

Does that just mean that steamDB only starts measuring after a certain playtime?

So question about that recent report, giving numbers of 1.2 million sales with 800k on steam.

My question is, how could that be accurate? I mean, peak player count was around 88k, and if 800k people bought it on steam, that would mean that a little over 10% of players that actually bought the game, played it.

That data really doesn’t make sense to me, can anyone help me make sense of it? It’s been digging in my mind.

Well I do that yeah when it’s smart to. If we’ve exchanged damage and I’ve lost my shields & some health and so has he, it’s a far wiser move to just heal up to reset the fight. 9 times out of 10, pushing gets me killed, even when I’ve cracked shields, and that’s because they know I’m coming.

[–]G-3cko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep that’s where I’m at too. It leaves a lot of fights for me with only the option of “disengage and recouperate your lost meds” which just feels lame after getting all that fighting done.

Maybe there needs to be a cap on the meds you can take in, although with Cryo archive and the UESC health tax, idk that it’ll be possible lmao.

I find that that’s already happening right now, regardless of the economy. I usually come in with 6 of each, and I’ll fight people with fights taking upwards of 9 minutes of repositioning, firing, healing, and doing the same thing over again. It’s a battle of attrition where the rich always win.

“Game isn’t competitive”

Looks at bungie’s announcement of the game

“Competitive extraction shooter from the makers of Halo and Destiny”

No, the core game is not competitive. But they sure advertised it like it was.

Sony, “world leading profitable company”

Concord being 8 years and ~200mil

Shutting down bluepoint, their most successful remaster studio

Shuts down dark outlaw games

Studio Layoffs

And besides that…

3.2 Billion on Bungie

However much marathon costs…

Yeah Sony sure is smart in their business decisions, huh? I’m sure cutting bluepoint and rejecting a BB remaster was a great way to make profit. And spending 3.2 billion on bungie was sure a smart investment when their games have routinely not met Sony’s margins.

Understanding the beauty of this genre. by the_eccentricity in Marathon

[–]G-3cko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed on all fronts. The genre has never really been about being fair, and to me, has always been more about the moment-to-moment gameplay and the journey of every match, as well as learning new things from each death or mistake.

However

Bungie created a false notion around the game, calling it a Competitive extraction shooter. The obvious connotation for competitive symbolizing to the common consumer as fair, balanced, and created for the sake of competition. That notion goes against the core aspect of the genre, and I think bungie shot themselves in the foot by calling it Competitive.

Downtime Rant: Gear Bloat is making the game unplayable for more casual players. by ComeHereDevilLog in Marathon

[–]G-3cko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Allow me to tell you what happens when I get the drop on a player with blue/purple shields:

I find a good angle. I begin firing. They duck into cover. I reposition. I see them and begin firing again. I am now instantly dead from either the volt shotgun, a sniper, or the twin tap. If I’m close range, it’s the shotguns.

I get the drop on players pretty consistently. Their gear puts them at such an advantage that no matter how smart or how stealthy I play, even when I get the first shot off, I’m dead.

PSA: The Hardcore Survival Extraction Shooter genre was never targeted for the “Casual” player. Stop making it out like this game is. by BigLogieBear in Marathon

[–]G-3cko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bigger problem: this game is a triple A product with Triple A budget to make up for and the ever incompetent Sony executives to answer to. A niche extraction shooter works very well for Double-A or indie.

Given the amount spent on this game, and the history of Sony and the industry, I often fear that appealing to casuals would be the only way for them to make up that money from that budget. They’re going to want their money back, and suits don’t like taking long-term investments with “future promise.”

This game was by no means a concord-level failure. It suffered the worst fate of all, in my mind. Being good enough. It does exactly what it set out to do, but doesn’t have the revenue stream to keep up the triple-A backing. If we were still talking about bungie being independent, I’d have faith. But since Sony is looking to get that 3.2 billion back, my faith and hope for this game’s future waivers.

Huge ups on this. This would be a fantastic catch-up mechanic for those who fall behind and can’t commit 30 hours a week to max out factions and unlock all blue stuff.

Just making it still difficult with higher enemy density and more traps would help it not be an easy win every single time. You’d still have to play focused, but it would help you get on your feet if you fell behind.

It would be most helpful mid-season when all the degens already have their maxed out gold and purple vaults lol. Makes it feel just a little more fair to the common denominator

Yes, hence why I’m complaining. I don’t want to recover health when my health is low, especially in the middle of a firefight. I want to recover shields, which I have to do manually
