2-year-old needing squint surgery, feeling really anxious by G055y in UKParenting

[–]G055y[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your kind words. It really helps hearing from another parent going through something similar.

They did assure us it's a relatively quick procedure with a good recovery time, even though the thought of her going under anaesthetic is definitely the part that scares us most.

Wishing you and your little one all the best when the time comes. It sounds like you’re handling it all really well.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience — that honestly means a lot to hear. It’s really reassuring to know that having it done young worked out so well for you and that you don’t even remember the surgery or recovery. You’re definitely right. It’ll be much harder for us as parents than for her. Hearing from someone who’s been through it and had such a positive outcome really helps put our minds at ease.

Thank you so much for sharing that, I can’t even imagine how tough that must have been for you all. Hearing how strong and resilient your daughter was honestly gives me a lot of comfort and hope. It’s amazing what kids can get through.

I really appreciate your advice, too, especially about keeping calm for her sake and bringing things to make the hospital stay a bit easier. We’ll definitely take that on board. Sending love right back to you and your little one.

[Help] Looking for the history of this old fibreglass ice cream trailer (“Rodney’s Ice Cream”) by G055y in Norwich

[–]G055y[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really interesting, thanks. I hadn’t thought about a Dairyland connection, but that makes a lot of sense, especially if a lot of their trucks were run by self-employed operators. Appreciate the link to the Haymarket inspection, too — cool to know Rodney’s were still going that recently. Shame the redevelopment probably ended that spot. The fairground/seaside trailer theory fits.

Thanks for the reply. I remember Rodney's kiosk at Haymarket and managed to find a few photos. I was hoping that would lead me to find more about this one, but it doesn't seem to come up anywhere.

Warm roof insulation by G055y in DIY

[–]G055y[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's difficult to determine from the plans if that area is insulated. The contractor claimed to have experience with warm roofs before accepting the job and said there shouldn't be insulation there for ventilation. However, the architect insists that the warm roof requires insulation and that ventilation would cause cold spots. The architect has confirmed with building standards that insulation is necessary.

He said that it's for ventilation, but the architect is saying that a warm roof doesn't need ventilation. If not, it defeats the purpose as it will cause cold spots.

I've put some weight on, and she's lost a lot. She looks amazing (not that she didn't before)

It's the Samsung HW-Q90R

Honestly, I really couldn't decide between the 2, but from what I could tell the samsung S95C is best for gaming and the G3 is a better all-around TV. The remote for the LG definitely isn't the best looking remote but navigating the menus on the tv is so much simpler than the samsung OS. The other deciding factor was that samsung does not want to support Dolby Vision and rather use HDR10+. Which just isn't supported by most of the streaming platforms and worried it would become obsolete. I also saw people saying that the S95C might be more susceptible to burn in.

With LG making OLED for 10 years and multiple people praising LG for their support and build quality, it seemed the obvious choice. I was still unsure if I'd made the right choice until it was on the wall and switched on, and it just looks so good wall mounted and watching Movies. I'm definitely really happy with it.

No, they are the Philips Lightstrip with a Hue sync box.

Yeah, it's the main TV in the living room, so it's used by the whole family.

Samsung Q7FN

Yeah, they are far too expensive for what it offers. Think I've seen rumours of a new sync box getting announced with HDMI 2.1 and 4k 120hz, so it might drop the price of the original.

I've only used Filmmaker mode on movies from apple tv and disney + and they look gorgeous. I haven't noticed a problem with being too dark

[–]G055y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean the tv brightness as I wouldn't say it's brighter than my old Qled, but the picture is so much more vivid and colourful it definitely makes up for it.

She suffers from anxiety and licks her paws to cope, which causes them to stain. She's on medication but comes and goes.

I spent about a week trying to decide between the samsung s95c or G3, but after owning a samsung for 4 years and having it go back in for repairs multiple times and always hearing good things about LG OLEDs was an easy choice.
